I can assure you that many tears of joy were shed that night in the UK and, I'm sure, the rest of the world. We finally felt that the USA would return to its position of leader in science and technology... (No one could predict the level of antiscience crazy to come!) I'm an "Apollo baby", was just old enough to have been woken up by my father to watch Armstrong step off the ladder. I was only 3, nearly 4, but I still can hear Dad saying "this is something you will never forget." I know he had me watch every takeoff and landing (I think that after seeing the takeoff, he hid what happened with Apollo 13 until he knew they were safe. Typical Dad ❤😢). It was that level of excitement and happiness I and many, probably _most_ of my compatriots, felt. Heck the BBC News channel had, during its 30 second intro into the next hour, amongst brief clips of many people from many countries, a clip of a British man holding a baby at night (obviously up feeding it - been there, recognised the bags under the eyes 😂) and watching the inauguration with tears in his eyes. That's the only clip I remember because I had cried during that day too! You guys better elect Harris. The world can't afford all that Prozac again! 💙

I was excited for Obama as well back in the day. The thing is Obama didn't just run on "hope", he also ran on "change". In fact that is what we were hoping for - change. Not hope for hope's sake. But of course as we know Obama didn't fundamentally change anything. That is one reason why we wound up with Trump- people thought this country needed a good shake-up but Obama just turned out to be George Bush with a sun-tan. Don't get me wrong, I think DJ Trump is a grade A moron and I don't want him anywhere near the levers of power. But I've learned my lesson about being for anything other than the lesser of two evils. I have no positive energy for Harris. I just have less negative energy than I do for Trump.

Robert Reich makes a very good point about when a plaintiff at fault hits a defendant with a frivolous law suit. It is very costly for the defendant, who is not at fault at all. Trump's frivolous and fraudulent cases,all the way up to the scotus, and the court's bizarre ruling that he can do whatever he wants if he is elected, have also cost the public very heavily. Lawyers have to be paid.There are court fees. Time is money in congress. A lot of money is wasted.

Legal costs are basically up to the Court. Even if the Court is not on Trumps side ie non partisan, it could order the sides to bear their own costs. If Trump is elected then guess what? The taxpayer pays! The prosecutions will be dropped,' and the prosecutions legal bills will be on the prosecutors ie the taxpayers.

I am a Pennsylvanian now and I'm enthusiastic about Shapiro as my Governor but I was not enthusiastic about him as the veep. He just comes across as a career politician for lack of a better word he is a lawyer and he's very polished in his public persona but the other term that comes to mind is Beltway elite. He could never have ignited this much enthusiasm as Tim Walz has done. His personal biography could not compete either. And even before that I worried about what would happen to Pennsylvania when the lieutenant governor took over and we ended up with a Conservative Republican lieutenant governor. It's hard to believe that we went from almost utter despair and hopelessness to complete joy and optimism in a matter of days. As a German, I too am very pleased with the developments in the USA over the past three weeks. For a long time, it seemed as though the heavy-set old man with the yellow hairdo would tragically maintain the upper hand, especially after the TV debate that revealed President Biden's age-related weaknesses. Fortunately, after some persuasive advice on a Sunday, Biden decided not to pursue his presidential candidacy further and handed the reins over to his Vice President. She quickly gained significant support and received an incredible amount of small donations. Together with the amiable Tim, she is making waves in the swing states. With so much enthusiasm and love for the nation, they are humorously exposing the dark, twisted motives of the hollowed-out Republicans, or what's left of them. Tim's characterization of them as "weirdos" hits the nail on the head, and the whole nation seems to be joining in, distancing itself from the two particularly unlikable candidates. Let us hope that the campaign continues without any unwanted incidents and leads to the desired outcome: May the Grand Nation rise and reclaim its role as a democratic model for the world.
