And why single out women? Single mother rates are higher than ever, put more focus on men being fathers than women not working. What he said is applicable to men too, it’s a sexist remark to single out women for something easily applied to men. As a traditional catholic, I want to clarify HBs point on womens vocation s. The word "vocation" is derived from Latin "Vocare" meaning "to call". A "vocation" or a " "calling"(from God) is different for every person. This means that SOME women will have a vocation to lead successful careers, whereas SOME will have a vocation to be Housewives. And, as HB explained, being a housewife is one of the most rewarding things a woman can do because many women do not have the privilege of raising their own children.

My mother was an incredibly successful woman who loved her job as a chemist after she had graduated college. She thoroughly enjoyed her career, until she married my father, who granted, made a suitable amount of money for the family to live comfortably as the only source of income. She made her own decision to leave her career behind because she knew that raising a family was more important, and she leaned into the vocation of “home-maker”. Just because that is her role doesn’t mean she has no life outside of her role in our family, in fact she meets with her friends quite often and feels fulfilled with her life. After asking her why she got a degree if her plan was to become a “home-maker” at some point, she responded by saying that people have to be ready for everything, and that even though she desired to be a mother and a wife PRIMARILY and everything else fell after that, she wanted to make sure that if that wouldn’t be possible that she could still live a satisfying life. Of course not all women think like my mother or Butker’s wife, so while I agree that what he’s saying is a blanket statement, women who are attending a Catholic college are likely excited for their career, and potentially the ability to be a “home-maker” if given the opportunity, because that is not a role to be frowned upon, and I give all credit to my mother for making me into the person I am today. Edit: I’d like to conclude what I’m saying here with the fact that I genuinely enjoy watching you Papa Meags. I’ve watched almost every video you’ve posted on this and your main channel. However, it’s my opinion that you, like many others who’ve reacted to this speech, are misidentifying what the point of Butkers address is trying to get across.

Firstly, he said that he guessed the majority of women were excited about being mothers, not all of them. Second, he praised the women for achieving this degree, and he said that some of them will have very successful careers. Third, he talked about their vocation. For someone who isn't Catholic or even many Catholic seem to not know what a vocation is, it is God's calling for your life. When he says that his wife leaned into her vocation, that means her vocation was to be a mother. There are 4 vocations: Generous Single Life, Religious Life, Priesthood, and Marriage. Plus, it's in a religious school, where they do believe that motherhood is very important. It's not for everyone, but for most. As a Follower of Christ but not a devout Catholic I found nothing wrong with his statement. The man was almost moved to tears about how much his wife has meant to him in his life and to his success. His speech may not have been easily understood at surface level but he’s trying to pour into these young men and women. To see a deeper meaning in life than just your Career especially with society we live in today. The deeper meaning being a Husband, Wife, Mother, Father. Marriage is a symbol of Jesus’ love for the church. Your Salvation, Your Faith in Christ is a deeper meaning than all the things of this world and in it. Joe, can’t you/her be all those things while simultaneously being successful in the workplace? Why are you opposed to splitting the homemaking?
@JoeH6223 ай бұрын
@@thepicgester It is not so much as being opposed or even being indifferent about splitting the “homemaking” I believe when we use that term it just has such a negative connotation attached to it when it shouldn’t. In Harrison’s speech while I have to concur just a bit wasn’t easily heard/understood at a surface/first hearing level he said that his Wife’s “Vocation” also know as a “Calling” from God on her life. God has a Plan/Vocation for everyone’s life and he stated that SHE, his Wife, felt her Vocation, Her calling in life was to be a “homemaker” or in a sense be the main person for now that guides their children and makes their home a sacred place. Vocations/ Callings can change in an instant because it is all on Gods timing and Gods plans. Now I am not a devout catholic but in the Christian faith Marriage is a very important and beautiful thing in Life. As I mentioned it represents the Love Jesus had for the church and his relationship with it. And he was speaking to these young men and women who he shares the same faith with by trying to give helpful advice and guidance to say that I’m sure they will have successful careers but to ventured to guess that they will find joy in a deeper meaning, becoming a Husband/Wife, Mother/Father. Marriage rates are so low these days and he just wanted to advise these young men and women to find a deeper meaning in their lives than their Careers but to lean into their Calling from God, Faith in Christ, Faith in their Salvation. Your time on this Earth is so short and God Loves You!!!!!! He wants to hear from you!!! I hope I could help a little bit that’s just my two sense. God Bless ❤️

Meags, I love ya, but you’re just flat out wrong by saying the whole thing on how the violence rates in single parent households is a cherry picked stat or how fatherless households have an impact on society. It took a 2 min google search to find that children that grow up without a father are 20x more likely to be incarcerated and are 279% more likely to illegally carry a firearm or deal narcotics or other stimulating substances compared to their fathered counterparts. Butker is right in a lot of his speech, especially how he talks about parenting. People need to worry more about their home life, spouses, children, etc, and not get so in over their heads in their careers. Our society has seen a huge downfall since the abandonment of even a variation of the nuclear family, even if both parents contribute financially, and if we can somewhat get back to those roots, statistically speaking, our society as a whole would be better.
