My mom js a Neurosurgeon and Christian. I asked her about her thoughts of the speech, and through her 8 years of schooling 8 more years of residency and countless surgery’s nothing has been more rewarding than watching me and my sister grow up. She would trade all that career success for family in a heartbeat. I would also venture to say most mothers could argue that the happiest day of their life is when their kids were born.

@@lebrinjims3580why give him the benefit of the doubt for sexist remarks? The og comment literally makes Harrison seem worse, he’s singling out women for something that should be applied to every parent

@@ryanheidt102 Advocating for prioritizing family does not mean that you can’t have a fulfilling career. This is a time period where women are being pressured to prioritize their career more than ever while men are less pressured than ever before, so him choosing to address this message to women makes sense. The number of people overall who are having children is decreasing, which is a scary trend for the future of the country. The benefit of the doubt comes in assuming that he doesn’t mean “get back in the kitchen”
@ryanheidt102

@@lebrinjims3580 no it is not a scary trend when you realize the world population is still rising, you also need to realize that him saying diabolical lies literally disrespects the women’s revolution. No matter how you look at it, even if women are being pressured to work(it’s seriously not even that bad like y’all make it seem) saying it’s a diabolical lie? That’s just a shitty thing to say. And why single out women? Single mother rates are higher than ever, put more focus on men being fathers than women not working. What he said is applicable to men too, it’s a sexist remark to single out women for something easily applied to men. Even the nuns at the college don’t agree with his speech, it’s not just a catholic view, it’s his own personal beliefs mixed in with catholic traditions. But that doesn’t mean he is sexist, I’m just saying what he said in that part of the speech was sexist no matter how you try to look at it

As a traditional catholic, I want to clarify HBs point on womens vocation s. The word "vocation" is derived from Latin "Vocare" meaning "to call". A "vocation" or a " "calling"(from God) is different for every person. This means that SOME women will have a vocation to lead successful careers, whereas SOME will have a vocation to be Housewives. And, as HB explained, being a housewife is one of the most rewarding things a woman can do because many women do not have the privilege of raising their own children.

My mother was an incredibly successful woman who loved her job as a chemist after she had graduated college. She thoroughly enjoyed her career, until she married my father, who granted, made a suitable amount of money for the family to live comfortably as the only source of income. She made her own decision to leave her career behind because she knew that raising a family was more important, and she leaned into the vocation of “home-maker”. Just because that is her role doesn’t mean she has no life outside of her role in our family, in fact she meets with her friends quite often and feels fulfilled with her life. After asking her why she got a degree if her plan was to become a “home-maker” at some point, she responded by saying that people have to be ready for everything, and that even though she desired to be a mother and a wife PRIMARILY and everything else fell after that, she wanted to make sure that if that wouldn’t be possible that she could still live a satisfying life. Of course not all women think like my mother or Butker’s wife, so while I agree that what he’s saying is a blanket statement, women who are attending a Catholic college are likely excited for their career, and potentially the ability to be a “home-maker” if given the opportunity, because that is not a role to be frowned upon, and I give all credit to my mother for making me into the person I am today. Edit: I’d like to conclude what I’m saying here with the fact that I genuinely enjoy watching you Papa Meags. I’ve watched almost every video you’ve posted on this and your main channel. However, it’s my opinion that you, like many others who’ve reacted to this speech, are misidentifying what the point of Butkers address is trying to get across.

your mother made that choice, harrison butker is saying that ALL women (who are catholic) should do that. to make it worse he said it at a college with women who just made a huge investment to have a career. I think if you want to make that choice you should, but on such an important day for all those women to be essentially told "you'll do great as a mom and not much else" isn't exactly a great feeling. That's where, for me at least, I don't understand why he thought saying any of this was okay.

@@cameronbruce1594 The problem with your view of it is that you're saying he said all women should do that. Firstly, he said that he guessed the majority of women were excited about being mothers, not all of them. Second, he praised the women for achieving this degree, and he said that some of them will have very successful careers. Third, he talked about their vocation. For someone who isn't Catholic or even many Catholic seem to not know what a vocation is, it is God's calling for your life. When he says that his wife leaned into her vocation, that means her vocation was to be a mother. There are 4 vocations: Generous Single Life, Religious Life, Priesthood, and Marriage. When analyzing somebody's speech, you have to understand the definitions of their speech. It'd be like assuming the way Rene Descartes addressed forms and substance is the same way St. Thomas Aquinas understood those terms. No ill will, I just wanted to maybe bring some points to think about

The fact that MMG glazes on the contrary idea was, to say the least, kinda shocking to me at first. He doesn't understand why this is JUST a religious thing, but also a basic human way of life? To put it in a different perspective, imagine Butker's wife standing up there, giving the same sermon, except this time it was directed at MEN, being fathers. I would be ENCOURAGED to take that role, without at all blinking an eye at these 2 scenarios having to collide and conflict with one another. Now, granted, Butker's approach doesn't fit woke activists leftist ideals, because it seems to be something that actually sounds realistic, but the IDEA is the same, and has been, for all of human history. The "most diabolical lie" he is talking about is the people saying the only thing that makes life matter is the amount of money you make, your job title, and your status in a job. That is a diabolical lie, because if you ask most mothers, they say the most important thing is their child. Again, mothers. Those who want to be mothers. Plus, it's in a religious school, where they do believe that motherhood is very important. It's not for everyone, but for most. I will say, he could have said it better, but I also believe the most diabolical lie is telling anyone the only thing that matters is your money, job title, or how high up you are on the ladder. That's what the world today says
@herecomesbob3829
@herecomesbob3829 3 ай бұрын
I also believe that he wasn't saying "you went here for nothing" not everyone is going to be a mother or wife, husband, or father right out of college. It takes time for a family to form. Some mat have already taken that step, but most haven't. I think it is important for a child to have two loving parents, and not leave them with a babysitter 5 days a week; or conversely, never seeing your partner because you work different timed shifts. Both lead to negative outcomes. Whether that's the father staying home, or the mother. Regardless, I agree with what Harrison said, especially because he stays true to his ideology.

As a fellow Christian and conservative, I had zero issues with Butker's speech. Of course, if you're a non-believer, liberal, feminist, and "woke", you're not gonna agree. His speech may not have been easily understood at surface level but he’s trying to pour into these young men and women. To see a deeper meaning in life than just your Career especially with society we live in today. The deeper meaning being a Husband, Wife, Mother, Father. Marriage is a symbol of Jesus’ love for the church. Your Salvation, Your Faith in Christ is a deeper meaning than all the things of this world and in it. @JoeH622 3 ай бұрын
@@thepicgester It is not so much as being opposed or even being indifferent about splitting the “homemaking” I believe when we use that term it just has such a negative connotation attached to it when it shouldn’t. In Harrison’s speech while I have to concur just a bit wasn’t easily heard/understood at a surface/first hearing level he said that his Wife’s “Vocation” also know as a “Calling” from God on her life. God has a Plan/Vocation for everyone’s life and he stated that SHE, his Wife, felt her Vocation, Her calling in life was to be a “homemaker” or in a sense be the main person for now that guides their children and makes their home a sacred place. Vocations/ Callings can change in an instant because it is all on Gods timing and Gods plans. Now I am not a devout catholic but in the Christian faith Marriage is a very important and beautiful thing in Life. As I mentioned it represents the Love Jesus had for the church and his relationship with it. And he was speaking to these young men and women who he shares the same faith with by trying to give helpful advice and guidance to say that I’m sure they will have successful careers but to ventured to guess that they will find joy in a deeper meaning, becoming a Husband/Wife, Mother/Father. Marriage rates are so low these days and he just wanted to advise these young men and women to find a deeper meaning in their lives than their Careers but to lean into their Calling from God, Faith in Christ, Faith in their Salvation. Your time on this Earth is so short and God Loves You!!!!!! He wants to hear from you!!! I hope I could help a little bit that’s just my two sense. God Bless ❤️

Meags, I love ya, but you’re just flat out wrong by saying the whole thing on how the violence rates in single parent households is a cherry picked stat or how fatherless households have an impact on society. It took a 2 min google search to find that children that grow up without a father are 20x more likely to be incarcerated and are 279% more likely to illegally carry a firearm or deal narcotics or other stimulating substances compared to their fathered counterparts. Butker is right in a lot of his speech, especially how he talks about parenting. People need to worry more about their home life, spouses, children, etc, and not get so in over their heads in their careers. Our society has seen a huge downfall since the abandonment of even a variation of the nuclear family, even if both parents contribute financially, and if we can somewhat get back to those roots, statistically speaking, our society as a whole would be better.

I don't know if he really believes that but while motherhood is an important part of Catholicism, it isn't how he explained lol. Otherwise there wouldn't be catholic colleges, cuz what would be the point of getting a bachelors. Poorly explained

@@jameslemont8121 except he never said they SHOULD. You have the whole speech laid out in this video and you’re still misquoting Butker. He said he would venture to guess that the women there (BECAUSE THEY ARE CATHOLIC) are excited to be mothers and homemakers. Nothing wrong with that at all…

I think everyone is being really sensitive these days. Harrison Butker did nothing wrong. He is allowed to have his views and we all are allowed to have ours. But people trying to have him kicked out of the NFL are going way to far. Imagine if Patrick Mahomes spoke on his views on a forum that became public and he said some “controversial things”. People wouldn’t try kicking him out of the league, but people are willing to do this to Harrison. Absolutely disgusting how people are responding to Harrison. BTW I am ordering his jersey to show my support for him.

Mat.. buddy… he’s right on every topic. Per capita the US has the highest rate of single parent homes. It stems from feminism that says they don’t need a man, society tearing marriages apart and men not wanting to be present (not in that order).

What he is saying is that no matter how much success women get from working, whether they’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or make millions of dollars. The joy of being a wife and a mother is worth more than any of that. Which is contrary to what the world says today…

I'm a student athlete who is working towards a hard degree (computational economics), I am also a catholic and being a father and husband is what I'm looking forward to the most. I know I'll have a good career and etc, but having a family of my own that I can provide for is what I really aspire for. Not everybody has the same dreams and goals, and that alright, and people can have different opinions. I can respect people who disagree with my view in life, because I know that not everybody wants to have a family or be married.
