This Chanel is so awesome. Thinking of a river cruise in November 2023. Tying to decide between the Avalon waterways or the AMA cruise line. I want the Bordeaux wine starts in the north and ends in Provence. This tour is sooo awesome.

It has been pretty unpredictable but water levels still only impact a small number of river cruises. Hoping and praying they recover quickly. This year has been super rough for those impacted.

I know your post is a year old. This summer, 2022, has been terribly dry and the Rhine, Main, and Danube have been very low. Many cruises were impacted. Some minor. Some major. Some cancelled. It’s nature. It happens. And Avalon does an incredible job of ensuring that the passengers are affected the least amount possible. Having said all that, my first choice would usually be May. The temperatures are mild. The rivers are less likely to be at flood stage and it’s probably way to early to worry about low water issues. Have a great cruise! We are sailing in two weeks on our 5th Avalon since 2014. We will be on the Impression for the second time in a row. Budapest to Amsterdam.

@@HarrTravel i couldn't figure out which river cruise line to take as they all seem rather similar. I'm sure it will amuse many, but for my husband and me that little lounge differentiator is enough to get us to pick avalon.

I chose to book the cheaper cabins on the bottom deck. Since the ships all have the same width, the balcony eats into the interior cabin space. I found it's also quieter. You don't spend that much time in the cabins anyway.
