Always bugged me that they set up the conflict between Bellatrix and Nevil from almost the very start, and then she starts major beef with Harry after killing his godfather, and then neither Harry or Nevil really see her in the final battle, instead she’s taken out by Molly who narratively has little to nothing to do with Bellatrix. Super unsatisfying end to that arch, honestly think Nevil shoulda gotten to take her out with the sword or something instead of the snake. But my favorite one is the Order of the Phoenix, so what do I know

I also had that problem even with the Deathly Hallows book, at least if not Harry or Neville, make it Ginny or Hermione or a collective effort to show how powerful these girls are together, if all 3 at their most powerful in this series can't take down Bellatrix, I can't take any of them seriously when it comes to a fight.

FYI, during the wedding scene in the book, Harry is disguised as one of Ron’s cousins through the use of polyjuice potion. For some reason they left out that very important detail in the movie
@Iva7443 жыл бұрын
Also Harry and Hermione take polyjuice potion when visiting Godric's Hollow at Christmas. There's just a lot of use of polyjuice potion in the 7th book and it works in the that format but it would definitely be too awkward in movie format to be looking at random people much of the time. But yeah, there was other security measures too and they discussed in the book how it was good for their mental health/morale to have at least one night that felt like normal life which is very human imo.

Man, I find the way Voldemort died in the film very disappointing, because it misses the whole point of showing that, after all the horcruxes had been destroyed, Voldemort was again just a mortal man, like any other, he couldn’t win over death, which was the whole search of his life, in the book his body falls on the ground and there it stays, a corpse like the others who died in the battle, the way it was portrayed in the movie with him withering and fading like dust kinda made him a bigger deal than he actually was. Visually it is nice, but it does miss the point!!
@davidshillaker75783 жыл бұрын
I like his book death, but his movie death shows that because he split his soul so much, he is really just a shell of a man, so when he dies, there is nothing left. He is just gone

His dead body was also the proof that the Wizard World needed that Voldemort was actually dead and not simply reduced like he was the last time he'd fallen, which it kinda looks like is what happened when he got dusted.

At the risk of revealing how much of a nerd I am: In Half Blood Prince, Dumbledore *does* know about the horcruxes. What he and Harry find out with Slughorn's memory is that he intended to make 6 of them. This may be a case of movie pollution though, but I haven't seen the movie in a while so I don't remember. Also, Dumbledore's plan with Harry and Slughorn didn't really need Harry to do good at Potions at all, since Dumbledore knew Slughorn well enough to know he would want to "collect" him regardless of how well he did in class. Slughorn took an interest in Harry because he was famous, not because he was good at Potions.

@79treefrog Жыл бұрын
Precisely. At the end of the day, a lot of the plot holes and issues he mentions in these videos as ways to discredit JK or just to seemingly show why he dislikes some movies are either explained or not as gaping in the books compared to the movies.

The books aren't perfect and there's plenty of shit to criticize, plot issues to point out etc. But saying "he couldn't have known about Horcruxes before Harry tells him", when he already has a fucked-up rotten hand from fiddling with the horcrux ring is kind of stupid.

The parts they cut out with lupin in the deathly hallows are the ones that hurt the most for me. Lupin is one of the few characters that Harry fully trusts in the books. He’s constantly going to him for help. So when he shows up at grimmauld place and Harry refuses his help because he thinks that lupin should be with tonks it’s a reallly good moment that shows Harry has grown up from the student that needed his teachers help to a man who can think his own thoughts. It also makes the shell cottage moment when he shows up and asks Harry to be godfather feel like a momentary break from all the doom and gloom in the book. I particularly love the line in the book” it seemed that Harry would be as reckless a godfather to teddy lupin as Sirius black was to Harry”.

Actually, Dumbledore knew that voldemort had horrocruxes since Harry's second year, and in the modified memory he had, Tom Riddle asked about it, so Dumbledore knew, hell, he even knew since book 2 that Harry was a horrocrux, and that voldemort had made more than one, since he had been searching and investigating voldemort for years now, which is how he had the other memories of his kills. What he actually found out in the memory is how many horrocruxes Voldemort had created. He was hoping for 2 or 3 (diary, ring and the one in the cave), excluding Harry, which was accidental, but then he found that they were 6, 2 that were already destroyed, one that he had guess the location, and 3 more, plus Harry. That's why he was shocked. He knew he had little time, and he realized he wouldn't be able to help Harry destroy them all before he died. But what he did want was to at least get one more before he died, so that Harry only had 3 more left, and Harry only needed to find two others, because they knew nagini was one. He also knew, because of the memories he obtained, that it would be something meaningful to Tom, and that it would probably be the hufflepuff Cup or the slytherin locket he found in the cave, but he knew both were horrocruxes now. He also knew the remainder horrocrux must be something from ravenclaw or gryffindor. I don't think Rowling knew from the first book she was going to do horrocruxes, at least when she was writing it, but by the second one, she already knew. Altho I agree that the six film is so filler that it drags the whole story a lot.

I should have commented this on the last video, but I wanted to share my opinion on why Harry doesn't use magic in this series as much as Ron or especially Hermione do. My theory is that Harry, specifically in the earlier movies, uses more physical methods of defense because we tend to fall back on things we are comfortable with in times of crisis or stress. Pre-Hogwarts Harry was probably used to fighting off Dudley and his friends with whatever he could get his hands on (bc he was a small, scrawny kid). When Harry is fighting something like a giant spider off, he's not really thinking about each and every spell he could be casting, he's just gonna use whatever he has to get it off. I know that Hermione was also not raised around magic, but she tends to rely on her intelligence because it's what she's good at, which includes her knowledge and practice of spells. And as mentioned in this video, the older Harry gets, the more he relies on spells and magic because he gets more comfortable with them. Anyways, this is long but that's why I don't really think the argument that Harry should use more magic completely holds up!
@kingcyclops40793 жыл бұрын
That's actually a pretty good argument. But it is kinda funny how in a series about magic and learning to use it the main character doesn't really use magic when he needs it the most.
@allyli17183 жыл бұрын
Yup, this was even a thing in th books for Hermione, who often thought of solutions but forgot she could use magic enact those solutions, which was why Ron was an integral part of the trio as a native wizard. The movies gave a lot of his magic/wizard related roles to Hermione (and Harry as well), as noted by Quinn Curio’s video on Ron.
@daltooinewestwood63803 жыл бұрын
@@kingcyclops4079 his being the main character is the problem honestly, since the story is told from his perspective, it’s better to have him be more realistic so the reader is able to put themselves into his shoes, it’s easier for a regular person to relate to Harry that way, and making the reader relate to the main character is creative writing rule 1

37:20 my biggest nitpick with the final movie is probably the voldemort death scene; in the books he just. falls over. dead. cause in the end he's just a guy. just a fucked up evil human being. in the movie he explodes into shadows or whatever, which i feel takes away from the fact that this wasn't some sort of fantasy monster they were fighting, but an Evil Man.

Also, the scene as a whole is just better in the books, in my opinion. It's Harry showing that he finally he's the upper hand. @WarriorDan3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, in response to the whole "How did Dumbledore not know about horcruxes in movie 6, but reference them in a flashback in movie 7" thing: This is a course-correction by the filmmakers. In the books, as far back as book 2, it's hinted that Dumbledore knows more than he actually admits when Harry shows him the diary, and again at the end of book 4, Dumbledore reacts strangely when Harry tells him about Voldemort taking his blood, and when Voldemort vaguely references his horcruxes. JK clearly didn't come up with the horcrux idea from the start, but she did start working it in as early as 4 and 5, and soft ret-conned the earlier books.
@reversalmushroom3 жыл бұрын
But the books have this problem too. Dumbledore doesn't know that Voldemort made horcruxes and finds out in book 6, and then in the book 7, we get a flashback where he tells Snape that Harry is a horcrux. Okay, so why is he doing that if the flashback is before he found out?
@WarriorDan3 жыл бұрын
@@reversalmushroom That's not quite correct. Dumbledore already knew he had made at least a horcrux. What Slughorn's memory caused him to realize was that there was more than one. Also again, at the end of book 4, Voldemort makes explicit references about "having gone farther than any other wizard upon the path that leads to immortality". While I don't think JKR had quite yet nailed down all the details, there is clear evidence that she was planning out at least the idea of multiple horcruxes as early as book 4. What made Slughorn's memory in book 6 important was that it confirmed Dumbledore's existing theory, and confirmed the exact number of horcruxes, which up until then, Dumbledore did not know.
@leonwascher69373 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure but I think in the book Dumbledore and Harry don't immediately go to the cave after they find out about hocruxes. I think there is some time between that where Harry finds out about Snape being the one who crashed into Dumbledore's and Trelawney's meeting.

It all hinges on Harry's grades. It always genuinely confused me why Harry and Luna never had a relationship. She’s introduced during a period where Harry is isolated and mistrusted more than ever before, having seen death for the second time and being treated like a madman. These are things that his friends and other love interests don’t really understand. But Luna does. Their conversations in the 5th movie make for some of my favorite interactions he has with the other students and they really could have played that up even further. I’m not saying Harry had to end up with Luna for the rest of the series, but a one year relationship with her would have been far more interesting than the romance we did get for him.

Ginny's usually quite snarky and witty in the books and even at times in the movies. I think it would've played better if she was like that to Harry, putting him in his place sometimes and grounding him. Reminding him, even though he's got a lot going on, he's still just a kid like the rest of them. I think that would've drawn him more to her as she helps him to look around and relate to everyone else instead of being selfish sometimes (as he is often in the books). The way their relationship is shown in the films is so cringey, the dialogue is so awkward and sure teenagers can have awkward moments but it would be much more charming to have made them bounce off of each other.
