Awesome run and congrats on WR! I actually remember triggering the Quidditch skip to get to Diagon Alley early when I played this on PS1, but of course I had no clue how to replicate it, I just thought I'd done something I was supposed to do. I had never made it that far playing normally so it was exciting to see more of the game seemingly out of nowhere. I made a save just so I could explore Diagon Alley whenever I wanted. Pretty bizarre to actually see it being used in the speedrun.

I've been thinking about getting into Speedrunning and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best game(s) for me to start running, that I like, and that mean a lot to me, and then this pops up in my recommended. I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner, but now it's good to know that there is still a somewhat active speedrunning community in this game. Might consider running this game in the future.

I can recommend speedrunning Psychonauts. Requires some timing, decent mechanics and is not too hard to learn. :)

Love this game. i notice a lot of speedruns in general start the timer before actually gaining control of the character, why is that?

Different speedrunning communities just have different rules. Sometimes it might be based on when an in-game timer starts, or maybe the first person to run a game just decided to start the timer at a certain point and others followed suit.
