Chris Columbus was the best pick for HP franchise. He's responsible for the picture we have in our heads thinking about magical world, all the characters. He did brilliant! Yes for the first couple of movies, but maybe not for goblet of fire and onward. At that point the books get a very dark tone and Columbus I think was only used to kids films so ye I think the later directors were better for the dark tone. (Except for goblet of fire)

For various reasons (mainly because of my mom) I've never really got into harry potter when I was a child, I've seen the first movie when I was 12, and read the first 4 books during 9th and 10th grade. What really made the movie for me was the set/prop design and the music, everything else comes secondary, really, those are the elements that made it truly magical. As for today, the Philosopher's stone is still my favourite, it's the one I like the best in terms of visuals, but also because I think it's the most cohesive, from a narrative point of view...maybe because it's more simple and there are relatively less characters, and the stakes are lower, I don't know..

Well, Twilight did amazing: The series actually made *more* money relative to its budget than the Harry Potter series did. Hunger Games also did quite well. The Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones, House of Dragons, Pirates of the Caribbean series. These are all favorites of mine that I also have bought dvd/bluray copies of. I haven't mentioned the Marvel films, that's another story. 😊

I’m 20, I grew up loving these films and throughout my siblings pregnancies my mum would read the books as they came out. I grew up to my mum reading these to me as a kid and then watching the movies with my siblings. I feel old seeing this now but at the same time I still have movie marathons and they make me happy.

I've only recently learnt about how much of an upheaval it was for these kids for years. Not being aloud to do anything with your hair, no sports. Imagine not being able to go skiing with your family on holidays? Not that I've ever been skiing anyway lol but still they gave up a lot. While most of us were out having fun these kids were working hard to bring Harry Potter to life and ill forever be grateful.

My daughter taped the first Harry Potter off tv for me. I didn’t think much of kids doing witchcraft, but I watched it. I absolutely loved it. I bought all the books as soon as they came out & bought all of the movies. I have Hedwig’s theme as the ringtone on my phone. When I make pies for holiday dinners i start late into the night when it’s peaceful & I watch Harry Potter movies. I read all the books in 80 days & read the last one in 4 days. I hardly slept & cried through most of it when so many of the characters died. It was very sad. I knew there would never be another movie, too. It was quite a few years ago when I read the books. I’m listening to them on audiobooks now. I love everything about Harry Potter & was amazed how true to the book the movies were. It was amazing. I love them all, but the first 2 are my favorites. You’re never too old for Harry Potter, i’m 73 years old & i’m a true fan. I also had a great uncle named Harry Potter. lol💕🐞⚡️🦉

I was 23 when this came out I didn't feel it that much. I liked lord of the rings but as I got older I got to understand the movies. I am more a fan of it. I'm 43 now and I love each film. The last one when we understood what really happened and why with professor snape brought a tear to my eye every time I see it. Thanks for a great series. I'm going to watch it now. Awesome.

The Chris Columbus films are my favorite, they really capture the magic of the series. There's a timeless and nostalgic quality to them that the other films in the series don't have. He also has a lot of experience working with kids and bringing out the best in them
@jixer1956Ай бұрын
EDIT: I just realized Chris Columbus also directed McCaulay Culkin in Home Alone, one of the most iconic child acting performances ever. He has a gift with kids. Agreed. He also put together an incredible core cast that remained for the rest the series. The golden trio, all the Weasleys except Bill, Dame Maggie Smith as McGonagall, Alan Rickman as Snape, Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Tom Felton as Draco, Mathew Lewis as Neville, Devon Murray as Seamus, Alfie Enoch as Dean, Jason Isaacs as Lucius, Warwick Davis as Flitwick and Griphook, and David Bradley as Filch were all Columbus' castings. The man deserves way more credit than he gets.

At 75 years old I waited just as the young kids did for each book Tolkien was my go-to when I needed calm JK Rawling was needed to awaken reading in today's youth Both these authors have such imagination Both series of films required people to make the book on site Both the series of films were just as the authors imagined their characters, places, and stories.

@fxpijsfxpijs6598 Жыл бұрын
I love watching documentaries of older movies, because back then they did so much practically - the sets were physical, merging different cuts in post was harder so they tried to go for contiguous shots, really so much had to be planned from ahead of time because you couldn't retroactively make the movie look and feel so different to the extant that you can today. Effects like the floating candles are brilliant, today they would just CGI them, like a no brainer. Also movie star casting was somewhat different, with stage actors playing in movies they really felt more like epic theater plays than just flashy films. I don't hate new movies, especially ones who still make effort in terms of old-school approach (top gun maverick is a recent example) but in pop culture you see less and less movies in the style of "Philosopher's stone".
@danieldevito63808 ай бұрын
I can't even imagine how amazing it must've been to make these movies, especially for Daniel, Emma and Rupert.
