Here are the Hogwarts changes throughout the movies, or at least the ones I spot: 0:12-The Greenhouses were added to the castle 0:19-The tower on the right side of Hogwarts was changed 0:22-The Whomping Willow was moved from the castle grounds to outside the castle 0:27-The back of the castle was changed to add the wooden bridge and the back courtyard 0:31-The reception hall was replaced with the front courtyard 0:47-The astronomy tower was added 0:53-The viaduct was changed from connecting the courtyard to the west part of the castle to connecting to the hills Feel free to tell me if there are more

Not only did the wooden bridge and clock tower get added, they added mountains where they weren’t before. The thumbnail shot shows this. That space of lake is where all the mountains containing hagrids hut, the owlery and whomping willow are placed later

Thanks to these clips I was able to add details to my mini hogwarts diorama. I noticed several contradictions or errors in the layout when I was making my art 1. In the movie they were walking in the grand marble staircase to go to the Gryffindor room, but in the layout the two locations are far from each other (the gryffindor tower being located at the other corner of the south courtyard square) 2. the long bridge (viaduct bridge) sometimes connects to the north courtyard castle, other times to an open field 3. the astronomy tower 'hole' sometimes faces the inside, sometimes the outside 4. in the movie harry was walking a short bridge from dumbledore's office (the encounter with dobby and lucius malfoy), no such short bridge exist except for the hospital wing (clock tower bridge)

This school always gives me the most mysterious and adventurous vibes. I love Hogwarts and the idea of a school being out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees and basically a castle, even though it sounds creepy when you put it like that, it also sounds like an amazing place where stories are made.

they make the castle look almost more and more spooky throughout the series. I watched them all before I read them, I probably would not have gotten into reading the book series if i had not watched them first so I am glad that I did! I like the books more than the movies so far. In my opinion they did a fantastic job on the movies!

The people who changed the design between Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban made a major oopsie. They forgot that the Great Hall was preceded by a staircase in the original entrance hall. This staircase does not exist in all later versions. This means that going through the courtyard and into the entrance will "magically" teleport you up one level to where the Great Hall is. The windows of the interior set of the Great Hall are only the top ones that are much higher than where the courtyard sits.

Adervae not to mention Hagrid’s one room hut was moved to from behind the castle near the quittitch pitch, to the edge of a cliff, is now a two room hut, and the only way to get there is a bridge and a clock tower that just randomly appears. The Whomping Willow was moved from the trading grounds place from the first/second movie to Hagrid’s new located hut. Also the prison tower was added on and the three towers in front of the greenhouses were changed. In the 6th movie the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom is now gone and the Astronomy tower appears, and the tower that was by the training grounds is now a smaller version of the towers in front of the greenhouses. And the courtyard in front of the great hall is now larger and has a bridge in front of it, which means the bridge in front of the other side of the castle is now gone. Also the tower that’s on the side of the courtyard by the great hall is now larger and has two bridges on it instead of one. The Harry Potter movies may be magical, but they have the worst continuity for a movie series I have ever seen

JK Rowling wrote new books wich needed hogwarts in the movie to change. the books didn't have any pictures and relied on the imagination of the reader, so it would be easy to remove or add lets say a tower without problems. but when the movies came around as the books where released the castle needed to change to fit with certain needs of the books. for example the main entrance bridge, which is shown in the end, simply was not talked about in the first few books but was needed for the final battle.

Dr Earnhardt It's also the fact different directors had different visions. Even the actual style of he castle's architecture changed from the first 2 films onwards. Since part 3 the Franchise got a whole new look. Many things are different. The wands, the castle etc. Some of the movies were made by different directors. They also changed the castle for the last film. My favorite Harry Potter movie is the third one.

Has anybody noticed that Ravenclaw Tower (The third tallest tower near the green houses) and Fluffy's Tower (The tower with the small bridge next the the chained bridge at 0:06) changed their style? Ravenclaw Tower is square and has no balcony's and Fluffly's Tower now looks like the Astronomy Tower.

It annoys me how much the castle changes. At least they could have explained that they did construction on Hogwarts over the summer breaks. But instead the directors pretend it didn't even happen. And now with the new Fantastic Beasts movie the castle has the courtyard, that stupid bridge connecting to it, and all the other changes made to it after the Chamber of Secrets. So, now how to you explain the continuity errors? Why would they get rid of the courtyard and all the other changes just to bring them back later?

Gromus Odus the bigger courtyard and bridge were only added for deathly hallows part 2 as they made a completely cgi model of the castle instead of using the real life model from the other films. It was easier for them to use the CGI model for fantastic beasts as the actual prop is part of the Warner Bros studio tour

However, that's still no excuse because if they wanted to maintain continuity they could have simply taken the cgi model and edited it so that it was the same as the original physical model.

Gromus Odus it was probably very expensive and too time consuming as the castle look itself is purely an editorial decision so they don’t expect many people to notice it’s not the same model from order of the Phoenix for example. I’m glad it’s the same director tho as Harry Potter only got good from the second movie onwards. The more realistic, grounded, darker atmosphere was much more immersive than the typical ‘magic bangs and whizzes’ look of the first two films.

There was a loooot of changes in Hogwarts in films and this is much disapointment. Different directors had different view how the story have to go, so... There was no clock tower as entrance, there was no astronomy tower, which is just incomprehensible, there was an entrace hall insted of coartyard in front of Great Hall, and this wasn't such big as in deathly hallows movies, and this "aqueduct" goes to the cathedral part of the castle, no to the forbidden forest. There was much more changes, just look carefully, and it were dictated by various stuff. A big inconsistency in my mind. Prefer book descriptions. P.S. Sorry for my english if there was something wrong

I think I understand why the castle keeps changing since prisoner of Azkaban. I believe that beside the aesthetic and cinematographic reasons, the outlook of hogwarts changes in accordance with the storyline (and probably the audience as well lol): darker, more intimidating , less child-friendly yet still retaining the mysterious and captivating nature . You can see this very clearly as the roofs of towers and spires are constantly raised with sharper points and angles every year just like the stakes are becoming higher towards the final epic prophecied battle. Also, the scale of the castle are expending so as to synchronize with the growing perspectives of its inhabitants, especially our protagonist Harry Potter. So it makes sense to me now why Sir Stuart Craig redesigned Hogwarts every year after the chamber of secrets. He straightforwardly explained in an interview that after the first two productions, he and his creative team understood that they could build a larger world upon the previous shots on locations at Alnwick castle and Durham Cathedral and one more castle whose name I forgot. They wanted to add more layers to this magical venue to keep it fresh and surprising.
