Hello dear! Wonderful tutorial. I'm working on a Slytherin scarf for my little guys birthday (how two Hufflepuffs made a Slytherin is beyond me 😆). In regards to the two different styles; directors changed for the third movie and there was a lot of redesign. The scarfs weren't the only change, robes and ties did, too. We can see that Ginny, a second year, is wearing the new style tie, so it's nothing to do woth upper/lower years, just new people in charge mixing the pot. I guess that if we want to make it head canon; Hogwarts issued new uniform guidlines and provided new scarfs as part of the change.
@sheepandstitch5 жыл бұрын
Ahhhh this is so informative. Thank you! i couldn’t find anything definitive on the scarf change, so just deferred to the fan forums as they seem to be the most passionate/in-the-know. Also, congrats on having a Slytherin in the family! They get a bad rep, but all the Slytherin I know are awesome!

Regarding the color block thing: I was convinced it was because the production crew changed, specifically the director and the costume designer. The robes changed too... they had lined hoods to correspond to their house.
@kayvanderveen5753 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve read, the upper classes had a different pattern, as in the pattern demonstrated in the video
@lizzieophelia3 жыл бұрын
@@kayvanderveen575 I've always considered that a fan theory that was made to make the production/costume designer change make sense without breaking the 4th wall. I feel like it was debunked because there are no younger students wearing the wide scarves in the later movies. Now considering the wide stripes that Newt wears in Fantastic Beasts I could agrue that the design was changed in the "mid-90s" (since Harry went to Hogwarts beginning in 1991). I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the reasons for the stripe change.
@kayvanderveen5753 жыл бұрын
You could be right, I don’t know. It was just what I heard. I do like the thin stripes better. What’s your preference?
@lizzieophelia3 жыл бұрын
@@kayvanderveen575 i liked the thin stripes (and contrasting hoods) better. They were like the small details that just elevate the design. The large stripes are also VERY reminiscent of soccer club scarves (which isn't a bad thing, but its good to know)

Do you feel like the red is too bright or does it look just right?
@simplyjanice4 жыл бұрын
Ibtihal C I actually made the Ravenclaw one with the recommended colors from their website but I don't think the red is too bright. It's supposed to be crimson and gold afterall 😁 I bet it would look awesome in person.

@@simplyjanice ah thank you!! I want to make all 4 scarves 😂 did you purchase midnight blue or royal blue?
@simplyjanice4 жыл бұрын
Ibtihal C I used midnight blue. Goodluck on the scarves!! All four sounds awesome 😁

I'm currently knitting the scarf, but I made changes. Since watching the movies, I noticed that her pattern doesn't match the movie scarves well. I recommend you do 15cm blocks -> 4 rows of the thin colour -> 6 rows of the block colour, and repeat. So for Ravenclaws, it's 15cm blue -> 4 rows bronze -> 6 rows blue -> 4 rows bronze and repeat. The 10cm block is way too little, and putting a 6 row distance between the thin colours resembles the movie scarves better. Also, buy ~350 grams of the main colour, 100g of the thin colour should be enough. 10cm= 4 inches, so 15cm = 6 inches

I'm a Ravenclaw, but I always love Hufflepuff colors, great contrast there. I think this would be fun.

I've just finished one for my friend! Ive made it about twice the size because he is a pretty tall guy and didn't want the scarf to look funny, I feel like I could have made 3 sweaters with it :-D

Oh, I love this! Such a simple but nice project. I'm working on socks right now, the first project ever I'm doing. But scarfs would be a great practice! So maybe I'm making all the houses and give them out for Christmas :) Oh, and I thought of changing the fringe up, so they contain 2 strands of the main color and one of the secondary color each. Might look neat as well.

Thank you so much for introducing me to Paintbox! Their yarn is much more c̶h̶e̶a̶p̶e̶r̶ cost-effective than the brands I've bought previously! (Too bad that I just spent eighty dollars on yarn this month.)

You’re welcome! I’m a fan of paintbox too! And I totally understand spending $80 on yarn! I’ve been there 😬🙈

Not me just starting to learn to knit and trying to do this to make my husband a scarf. I love crochet. I suck at patterns. I really want to make house sweaters for my kids and him. But trying something basic first 😅

I think you'd make a really good kindergarten teacher. like, an army of orphans or something! you give me hope, so why not? I'd be proud to call you wolfmama. Knitting is a survival skill, and you are living proof of that.

I’m a Huffleclaw I made a Hufflepuff scarf first it does not look good with my red pea coat but my Ravenclaw scarf fits nicely. I’m also making a touqe ( a beanie for my American friends) inspired by the scarf pattern.I gave my Hufflepuff scarf to my daughter who’s a Hufflepuff. She loves it.

Already knit myself a Ravenclaw scarf, by using the house's book colours & bird of: dark-blue & bronze-brown, as well as using Eagle iron-on patches (I too sewn them on) from eBay. 👍🏾💙🤎🦅
