27:35 you must remember that in Harry’s year, all of those kids were born during a pretty violent time for wizards. Typically, less kids are born during times of war.

03:58 Harry was actually brought to the Dursley's on the night of November 1st, but as a Brit that now lives in North America I can confirm that we definitely don't decorate our houses anywhere near as much as you guys do for Halloween (maybe the odd house with pumpkins on the doorstep)

In the 80's as a child we Never decorated for Halloween - or even celebrated it much! I remember we used to carve turnips or swedes in the 80's & early 90's - it was only after then that pumpkins were brought in to fashion for posh folks that could afford them. but still NO decorating of houses for that time of year - not until the 2010's did that become even mildly fashionable. We 'celebrate' fireworks/Bonfire night WAY more than halloween back then.

I don't think it's ever been officially confirmed, but my theory about Hagrid's wand is that Dumbledore repaired it with the Elder wand (as Harry did with his own wand), but they had to hide the wand in the umbrella because Hagrid was not supposed to have one. I also suspect that Dumbledore taught Hagrid magic after he was expelled.
@aubreybrackett7653
@aubreybrackett7653 Ай бұрын
I do not think Dumbledore would not have needed to repair it for Hagrid to still use it. Wands help channel and amplify a wizards casting ability. With Hagrid being half giant, he is naturally stronger against magic. So, he would be able to still control a broken wand better than a wizard would be against spells rebounding toward the caster...like in the case of Ron and Lockhart.

Awesome video! - The Super Carlin Brothers actually theorised the reason for fewer children in Harry's year being down to the many lost lives, and families fleeing during the wizarding war and the height of Voldermort's reign of terror. So, theoretically, the older and younger years would have more children.

1:02:12 Harry Potter is for ALL ages. If you enjoy the books/movies, say at 10 years old, then enjoy them as a child. At 20, as a young adult. At 30 as an adult…. Etc. At 60, like me, then as an older adult. Again, it’s for all ages, if you were lucky enough to be 10 when the series was first being released, I’m envious. You can revisit these stories through your decades of life and bring your current mindset with you. In that way, you can identify with all of the characters, what a treat that is.

Great breakdown! A few items I would add: - Harry does meet Malfoy earlier in the book and he doesn't like him immediately because he reminds him of Dudley -There is a scene of the trio and Hagrid where you can see Emma mouthing the other's lines (love kid actors) - Rupert got injured in the chess scene, you can see it in the movie where there is a gash that appears on his face from flying debris -Please mention something that needs to not change in the TV show is that Ravenclaw needs to keep the Eagle and bronze colors, all of the movie items for purchase change their house to be a raven and silver as the secondary color! Overall amazing work!

You mentioned the fact that it's Philosopher's Stone in Britain, and Sorcerer's Stone in the US, because the American publisher didn't think the US kids would get the reference. I noticed that in the beginning they also changed some words in at least the first two books from British words like JUMPER & TRAINERS to the American SWEATER & SNEAKERS for example. The later books didn't have as many adjustments.

49:20 My headcanon is Snape's sense of legilimency was passively detecting another mind, since Harry was so close. But with his other senses saying nothing was there, he refocused on his threat to Quirrell. Or - going a step further, though it's truly just speculation now - maybe even being able to recognize it was Harry's mind, and wanting Harry to witness him confronting Quirrell as the true threat. Which of course, Harry could still misinterpret and see Snape as the real villain.

This does not improve after Voldemort is resurrected after the Triwizard Tournament. At least Harry has the Weaslys as a surrogate family Draco is just stuck in his ivory tower.

Yes he does. He went to Albania in the summer holidays before Harry's first year, so when we meet him hes ahd Voldemort on the back of his head for a while. Thats why he wears the turban, its hinted he didnt always wear a turban

33:25 The first thing Snape asks Harry is "Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning 'My regrets follow you to the grave' and wormwood means 'absence' and also typically symbolised bitter sorrow. Fun fact

I honestly feel bad for the adults cast as characters Snape, McGonagall and Ollivander who have to follow legends like Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and John Hurt. Their casting was so perfect. They are tough acts to follow.

Thank you for addressing the idea that we can love a world created by someone who may have different ideas then our own. I like to believe the person who wrote these books is not the person who is speaking today. We all grow from who we used to be sometimes we unfortunately do not grow into better people.

Also, Hufflepuff often is seen as the house that gets the rejects, however this actually goes into the second train that is associated with the house. Acceptance. Hufflepuffs are quick to accept others while the other three houses are standoffish

Something you didn’t mention about the challenges at the end: Fluffy, takes teamwork Devil’s Snare takes teamwork Keys is all Harry Chess is all Ron Troll would have been teamwork Puzzle is all Hermione This shows all their strengths and areas for growth. But more importantly. One more child was awake that night, who could have gone. Neville. What is Neville best at? Herbology. Which means: Fluffy, takes teamwork Devil’s Snare would be all Neville Keys is all Harry Chess is all Ron Troll would have been teamwork Puzzle is all Hermione This further leans into Dumbledore’s plan for Harry his first year (as described in the book).
@broderickfoster2107
@broderickfoster2107 Ай бұрын
Not entirely sure how the troll would require teamwork as it’s implied Quirrel knocked it out the same way Ron did with the other back in the bathroom. You really just need to knock them out with their own club and that doesn’t necessarily take teamwork, it does take bravery though and a mastery of the skills learned throughout their adventures

Part of being an adult is being ok someone doesnt agree with you, regarding the author, letting them have their own views even if they disagree with your own no matter how personal. This goes both ways. its ok to disagree with someone, but that should never change how you treat someone. Love everyone as you do yourself
