That is the saddest I've ever heard "Leaving Hogwarts" been played. It made me cry and reminded me how much I miss it all. Thank you for that.

Just wanted to point out to people giving props to the flutes for the runs in the beginning bit, the 1st clarinet has those runs too, and the clarinet(s) played them very well too. I know from playing them that they aren't easy runs to play.

I've ALWAYS wanted to see what instruments created Hedwig's Theme, in particular the opening music which always sounded like a music box to me. Now I know it'sa vibraphone (I think that's it). Excellent recording and wonderful to see "live" via a recording. :)

@chunwong1993 Hey, chunwong!!! I just discovered your answer to me; I had changed youtube addresses right after this. Thanks for your answer; I wiki'd "celesta" and was fascinated by the instrument...never heard of it in my life and it makes perfect sense that that is what John would have used. Thanks again for the education!

The people you see playing timpani are percussionists. They don't just play one instrument. They learn to play all of the percussion instruments. Most of them can play the drum kit as well...and playing timpani is fun!

the timpani player also playing the triangle never seen tht one before. hope i get to play this in band.

You all sound very good, I like you all, your band is very great. I have heard it varies from 16 - 60 in age, most of the people playing percussion look around 16-25, is this true?
@MrDanielBrisk13 жыл бұрын
@jbe1996 I have taught at every grade level of instrumental music. I can tell you from experience that even 5th graders love to play timpani. Also, what thejackadams says is true: the musicians you see are well-rounded percussionists, but they will have a natural inclination to be drawn to one instrument over another. Some prefer mallets, some snare and some timpani. Make no mistake though, there are those who want to be percussionists and then there are those who want to hit things.
@MiNamSshi13 жыл бұрын
Wow. When I'm listening to this, I feel like my own class really sucks. xD
@rexckt13 жыл бұрын
@jbe1996 I love Timpani the most in the percussion, more than the drum set, when I was a kid.

@Sehvash12 жыл бұрын
@thejackadams No problem... even though this was made in 08 :) I'm 16 myself. I play clarinet where are you located, or is the band an invite only type thing? I'm trying to get my feet in the door in the classical community.
@jbe199613 жыл бұрын
@thejackadams i know that, I play timpani my self (: but they have probably been offered, like me, to play in an orcestra, and then learned how to play timpani. I play all kinds of percussion instruments, so I know what it's like..
@thejackadams13 жыл бұрын
@Mcl0vin11 My guess would be none of them and I know them all quite well. This is a community band and all of the members play in it because they love to play. Japanese children are usually allowed to choose the activities in which they wish to participate and then encouraged to give their very best effort at all times. A strong work ethic is a huge part of their culture. In this case, that translates to strong practice ethic which any accomplished musician knows is necessary for success.

I'm guessing this ensemble has no oboes since there's a soprano saxophone playing a section where oboes are supposed to...
