Harry Sacksioni vs Jan Akkerman - The Battle

A regular part of this show, De Wereld Draait Door, in which they invite master musicians to participate in a battle, just for fun and glorie. In this case two of, in my case, quite desicive players having been influenced my way to (like to) play guitar. The intro is quite long but shows some short nice historical frags of both guys, anyway enjoy!

Het leuke is dat vooral Jan duidelijk maakt dat het idee van een battle onzin is voor deze twee prachtmuzikanten. Twee genieters. Ik heb ze allebei in het echt zien optreden. Heerlijk.

Belachelijke commentaren van sommigen. 't Is nu eenmaal een idiote wereld aan het worden... Heb als Belg en muzikant zijnde enorm veel respect voor deze 2 gitaristen...Een aantal jaren geleden had ik Jan zien spelen met een blues/rockband in Middelburg. Enorm goede gitarist. Vriendelijke kerel ook. Vorig weekend had ik de eer om (voor de tweede keer) Harry aan het werk te zien in Breda. Hetgene dat mr. Sacksioni zo schitterend kan is dat hij zowel basnoten als harmonie én melodie tezamen uit z'n gitaar tovert! Wie doet het 'm na...nee, twee absolute toppers!

Zo'n battle is wat mij betreft onzinnig. De beste jams ontstaan als mensen ontspannen zijn. Je loopt artiesten alleen maar op te drijven en te beperken. Kortom, laat ze lekker beide een beetje spelen en dan vloeit dat vanzelf over in een leuke jam.

Exact, sowieso vind ik muziekwedstrijden waanzin. Het gaat er niet om wie het beste is - want wie bepaalt dat en op grond waarvan? - maar om het overbrengen van muzikale emotie !

Feitelijk helemaal met je eens, deze gitaristen zijn idd niet goed te vergelijken. Ik heb trouwens maar meteen even die eerste LP van Sacksioni besteld nij FONOS. Die is door hun op CD gezet van LP, ik was 'm, inclusief de ontstane open haard knetters, al lang kwijt. Stukjes daarvan speel ik 'n beetje zo nu en dan. Heb Akkerman (& Friends) trouwens nog gezien in Carre, nog steeds genieten!

Voor wat betreft de positie van NL gitaristen vond ik de Thelonious Monk Award in 1995 voor Jesse van Ruller toch ook wel een mooi piekmoment. Maar ook niet te vergeten: het Rosenberg trio.

Jan akkerman speelt gewoon totaal ander soort muziek als harry saksioni, je zou beter saksioni met tommy emmanuel of iets kunnen vergelijken, en jan akkerman is gewoon uniek!

@thundernotes Dat instrument heet een 'tiple' en komt uit Zuid-Amerika. Kortere hals, hoger gestemde snaren, dichter op elkaar staande frets (de 'vakjes' op de hals van de gitaar, zeg maar).

I'd make an effort to actually watch the damn thing. Just a note to the commenters here: Music or playing an instrument is not a competition. Choosing or arguing about who's better is downright ridiculous. These two men are absolute masters of the guitar. I've never heard of Harry but Ackerman to me is CRIMINALLY underrated. He and his group, Focus, each have their own spot in my personal RNR HOF. To hell with the one in Cleveland. @Geepereet - 🖒!

Jan Akkerman is known for his work with Focus and other bands, The other guy, Harry Sacksioni, is less known. but he is also a very good guitar player. I am a guitar player myself, but I could never compete with these guys.

The Dutch 5 best guitar players according to Dutch so called experts is... 1...Jan Akkerman 2...Ad Vandenberg 3....Harry Sacksioni... 4... Stochelllo Rosenberg 5.....Eddie van Halen... I would put Van Halen at 3...and Adje at 5...but on any other given day the same list would be in another order...music has a lot to do with how you feel at the moment someone asks...

I wasn't talking about his other stuff, both of them sure did some cool stuff too. I just don't find this performance, of both guitarists by the way, appealing. To me the rather harsh attac resulting in ugly frettbuzz doesn't feel like a good, or optimistcly, a realistic taste of their work.

The frettbuzz shows that the guitar player has no control of the amount of energy he has to put in his guitar to make a tone. Especially in it's chronical form, like above. Unless done on purpose offcourse. Maybe you like it; I think it's really ugly. Btw: I don't share your sense of humor.

leuke battle is niet te vergelijken. ik waardeer saksioni erg mooi en ben groot fan van zijn album vensters Focus schitterend met name hamburger concerto. Jan is de beste guitarist van de wereld gewwest. Harry was iets minder beroemd in de wereld maar denk technisch gezien een betere guitarist. (speel zelf fluit)

Weet je hoe gods gruwelijk moeilijk de techniek van sacksioni is op die 12 snarige gitaar? Bekijk em anders even vanaf 4:45 😮. Echt beide bizarre gitaristen maar sacksioni met die snelheid en klanken met mutes strums op een 12 snarige gitaar is echt 10 keer lastiger.

Sachsioni is van een totaal andere orde dan Ackerman. Ackerman is een goede blues/rock gitarist. Sacksioni is een virtuoos die een eigen uniek en stijl heeft ontwikkeld.

Sacksioni's stijl is inderdaad meer door de folk/country fingerpicking stijl bepaald waarbij je zowel de linker- als de rechterhand bijna apart laat werken (in visuele zin dan:; in werkelijkheid werken ze perfect samen). Akkermans stijl is meer, zoals je zegt, door de blues/rock stijl van soleren gevormd: hierbij zijn akkoorden de basis en worden improvisatie en fingerpicking meer door die akkoorden bepaald, dus de rechterhand lijkt hierbij in veel gevallen itt bij country fingerpicking meer als een soort "blok" op de hals te staan.
