I would not classify Filtch a villian. Antagonist, yes. I think his dislike of the students is outta jealousy. He was a Squib, unable to do even the basic bits of magic. While even the most novice 1st years could.

well I would see torturing students (which I believe he used to do) and wishing he could still do it is rather villianous tbh

@spinningadam maybe. But, I get the impression it was all talk. He knew there were certain lines he could not cross. Threats? Yes. Actually doing it? No. I am also open to being wrong. He coulda been a total harda$$ back in the day

@@dhazard1976 I'm not sure what he says in the book but I believe he said "I miss the screaming" in the scene where he escorts the trio to hagrid to look for the unicorn

@spinningadam I believe it is all talk. I'm sure the kids woulda used magic to defend themselves against the torture. He is basically defenseless. Look at Fred and George. They pulled off stuff that woulda landed them in shackles and upside down or hanging by their thumbs. But, like I said he could been a total harda$$ back in the day.

I always thought Lucius Malfoy was nearly comedic in his extravagant failures. By Order of the Phoenix, you can almost guess what's coming ol' Lucius' way.

For those who say Filch is not a villain- That guy waited for the chance to torture students if this was allowed, so just remember that. The choices are good, the only one you can argue against is Quirinus Quirrell, because he was possessed by Voldemort and didn't really have malice intent. He was only dumb enough to think the dark lord will reward him, he took ambition to the wrong part of it.

I wouldn’t classify Flich as a villain from the POV of an 11 year old sure he is antagonist but hardly a villain in the general scope. He was just doing his job and kids can be pains lol. I mean he wasn’t overtly nice to them but deff not villain like

Filch wasn't a villain for enforcing the rules. Imagine the chaos possible a school full of teenage wizards could cause.

I always wondered something. Let’s say there was a student who tried to help Filch, ask how his day is going, thank him for the great things he does to make their school wonderful and just overall be good to him. By the end of the students 7th year the student walks up and says goodbye to him. I wonder if Filch would be their friend or at least hold respect for the student. The reason I say this is because in high school I helped our custodians clean up the school for games, open houses and other events. They told me they were extremely grateful for my assistance. Just a random thought

@@pioneerguy714 Interesting question, but going by what I remember from the books, he’d probably get mad if a student asked to help, or think they were mocking him. There is a reason none of the students liked him beyond trying to catch them doing something to put them in detention. Filch was a mean character, grumpy and hated kids. I think part of that might have been from jealousy because he was a Squib, but he wanted to be able to whip the students as a punishment and sided with Umbridge in OOTP and when she became headmistress briefly she gave him permission to do so, though the book never says if he actually did or not. Still, I wouldn't classify him as a villain though. Just a grouchy mean old man.

People really defending filch? If bro had it his way he would have been inflicting crazy painful punishments on kids. The guy was deranged and the only person in the castle who liked Umbridge who also abused kids
