The Vijayanagar Empire was a prominent South Indian dynasty that ruled from 1336 to 1646. Founded by Harihara I and his brother Bukka Raya I, the empire reached its zenith under the reign of Krishnadevaraya (1509-1529). Known for its capital city, Vijayanagar (modern-day Hampi), the empire was a major center of Hindu culture and administration. It fostered advancements in art, architecture, and literature, and its rulers were noted for their patronage of temples and support of various religious traditions. The Battle of Talikota in 1565 led to the empire's decline, culminating in its eventual disintegration into smaller states.
