Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. it is located in Hartford County and is only minutes from Massachusetts. It is the fourth largest city in Connecticut and falls behind Bridgeport, New Haven, and Stamford in terms of population size (check out our videos). it is often noted as one of the more dangerous areas due to having one of the highest crime rates in the state of Connecticut and the New England area in general. Poverty levels are also significantly higher than the state as a whole.
The landscape is characterized with a mix of low income, affordable housing the abandoned homes and more affluent areas. for the purposed of this video since this is a hood tour we drive though the streets of areas with higher the average crime rates. From Main streets through back streets we explore these aspects ... as well as verbal narration, we let the streets and landscape do the talking as well.

I grew up in Hartford during the 50s and 60s. City was segregated, north and south, nerdy white kids from the south side, but we walked and played all over the city, Never any issues; always brought a basketball with us; it was the passport to peace and fun, as long as we got home before dark.

Grew up in Hartford area, specifically the COT D section which at this time was torn down and built single family homes. I never had any issues living there but I guess it got worse after I moved - after I graduated from HS..1970...I guess the area changed for the worse with gangs..Maybe you can drive through there and see what it looks like by starting at the boys club...down Chandler ST towards New Britain Ave....The street I lived on was Admiral St which is no longer there..
