This traditional instrumental music is played in Japan at New Year in most of the shops. I always enjoy hearing it.

This woman who was playing Koto in this video, was Kiyoko Miyagi. And she was a niece of the composer Michio Miyagi.

I found in a thrift store a little black lacquer jewelry box by Sankyo that played the most beautiful haunting tune - I was so anxious to find out what it was. Very fortunately a Japanese friend was able to identify it as Haru No Umi - how lucky!

Deux artistes magnifiques. Musique envoûtante, je suis comme hypnotisé par leur virtuosité. Un grand merci
Two masters, whenever I attempt this song I listen to a recording, but this video is even better. This version is a master class. I am enthralled by the koto master since that is my instrument, she is fantastic!

Tiene mucho mérito tocar la flauta asi; pero lo que hace ella con el koto ... es alucinante.

Ive heard many bamboo flute design variations but it seems shakuhachi tops all of them.. Soundwise. aesthetics/flute construction. Music composition.

I heard this musical piece years ago during a Music From the Hearts of Space broadcast. As a flute player I was very impressed with this string and woodwind duet. Today I had the opportunity to not only hear it again but see the musicians perform. I just ordered a Purple Bamboo Dong Xiao - Chinese Shakuhachi Xiao Flute (Right Handed, Key of G). I plan to teach myself how to play it. Thank you for posting this beautiful composition.

what is the name of this string instrument
@xaviermccomb67148 ай бұрын
Is it a koto? I randomly have this and another similar song on my playlist called a "25 string koto"@@johnywhite8962
@NT-zf8dx6 ай бұрын
@@johnywhite8962The koto, a stringed instrument, is written "琴" in kanji. There seem to be various types of koto, but I am not familiar with them. The flute is called shakuhachi, and is written "尺八".

What was Michio Miyagi going trough in that day? So easy is for us, to recognise and appreciate a moment of is sublime inspiration. Words are unnecessary, for the interpretation of this two fabulous musicians.

Michio Miyagi is probably by the seaside when he composed this. Thanks for the comment. it makes me wanna contemplate about that too hehe
