Hello! Just wanted to clarify a few common misconceptions I often see in the comments section: 1) Not all Harvard dorms have this layout! There are plenty of doubles, triples, and quints, and it’s pretty uncommon for rooms to have bunk beds. 2) I loved my room so much! It was wonderful, and I promise it is nowhere as bad as a lot of commenters seem to think it is. Even the bathroom isn’t as bad as this video makes it seem. 3) A lot of people comment that they thought the rooms would be higher quality “considering how much the tuition is”. While the tuition is high, don’t forget that Harvard has the some of the best financial aid in the country! Also, our tuition goes towards many opportunities that we receive as students, not just the dorm. I promise you that no Harvard student regrets their choice of college based on their dorm room. Hopefully this clarifies a few things, and thank you for watching!
@BalletTapJazz6 жыл бұрын
Claire Fridkin I loved seeing that the dorms were just like other schools! Old, kinda outdated. It’s bigger than a lot of other freshman dorms are too. Anyways you’re there for the education, not for a fancy living space. Dorms are dorms!
@Esha9116 жыл бұрын
Claire Fridkin that is absolutely true. We all get caught up in expectations that we tend to forget the main reasons students choose this school. It is a wonderful school because of the level of academics and the students drive to get the best education they see fit, not for the darn dorm rooms. On that note, I have an idea, you should do a walk through video of other areas on Harvard’s campus. I am excited to expose my 17 year old senior daughter to the Harvard life this weekend coming up even if she doesn’t want or qualify to apply. I want her to see how hard work pays off.

In terms of the layout of the rooms, Harvard seems to be keeping in theme with it's age - very similar to Oxford and Cambridge uni here in the UK. Known to be some of the more 'prestigious' universities, but very old worldy rooms. Although in saying that, I don't think there are any universities with shared rooms like yours in the UK on campus, unless you just shared a house with friends. Our halls - onsite campus rooms - are just flats made up of 8-12 students with an ensuite room each and a shared kitchen/social area. That's the generic idea anyway but they do differ with studio flats and shared bathroom flats etc. Not really my thing I must admit, but it makes sense to keep in theme with the age of the buildings etc.

While I know Harvard is one of the best universities in the world, that dorm kinda made me depressed. Many dorms I’ve seen are very small considering they’re housing at least two students who are calling it their home throughout the school year, but at least most dorms I’ve seen doesn’t force the students to basically sleep on each other’s laps in a more or less claustrophobia triggering bedroom. The common room looked nice though. I know the buildings are old, but seriously, with the tuition fee they charge at Harvard one would think they’d be able to renovate the dorms a tad bit more 😳 Even my high school dorm room (boarding school) at a school out in the Swedish countryside was more homey and spacious and that dorm was a bit like a college suite with single or double bedroom (I had single) and shared bathroom and kitchen area with the other rooms of the suite. TBH, a dorm like this would throw me off and have me look for an off campus option if being a Harvard student, and having that feeling about something is pretty sad when it’s a top university and all. If I had the chance to study at a college in USA I’d probably want to go to UCLA, MIT or BU

For everyone that's wondering why harvard has so tiny and "ugly" rooms, it's because it's super old, as you may already know, harvard has more than 100 years existing, they can't change the infrastructure if their dorms. So they have to accomodate to those tiny rooms.
