It’s horrible to see how even the “most educated” people of our generation are doing such terrible and ignorant things. I completely understand that you are bringing awareness about climate change but I think that you are not sending the correct message as a community by doing parties full of balloons and tailgates that lead to more pollution. I’ve been protesting for about a year about climate change and I know what it’s like to be judged way to harshly about what you use, even by yourself, but at least it has led me to be more conscious and avoid those types of events and products. I know it’s hard but you have to think about your morals and reflect if what you’re doing is just influenced by popularity, it’s okay if it is because you’re still bringing awareness about this but it doesn’t help that people claim they care about this but still keep up the same lifestyle without even thinking about the impact it has on our planet and on the image of the climate movement.

Tiffani Lillian absolutely nothing. That’s the problem with “woke” culture. They talk about how enlightened they are but don’t actually do anything beneficial for the causes they preach about.
@abhidesai77824 жыл бұрын
Tiffani Lillian U know that Harvard and Yale have big endowments right. Those endowments aren’t sitting in some bank, they are being invested so that the university can make money. A sizeable chunk of Harvard and Yale’s endowment is in fossil fuel companies. The students are asking Harvard and Yale to remove their investments in fossil fuel companies
@Potter4lyfe4 жыл бұрын
@@darkoshmarko how funny. people are now actually talking about this issue, many people didn't even know Harvard and Yale had these endowments. yet here you are, saying how useless this protest is and how it wasn't even beneficial. just bringing attention to an issue is already significant. that's how grassroots efforts work.
@darkoshmarko4 жыл бұрын
Potter Pirate I’m talking about them making changes in their own lives to help the environment instead of just blaming others and telling them to change. Example: did you see how many plastic beauty containers she had on her dresser in a previous vlog? Something like 90% of plastics are made with fossil fuels. Yet here she is telling the university to stop endorsing FF while she herself is still endorsing them with her own dollars. She also preaches veganism but wears leather bags and shoes. She also promotes fast fashion rather than promoting thrifting. It’s not trendy or aesthetic to make these changes but the publicity attached to a protest gets attention and she loves that so she’s all for it.
@JL-jh6zn4 жыл бұрын
Tiffani Lillian a key part of protesting is disruption. By disrupting this big football game they bring attention to the fact that Yale and Harvard invest in fossil fuels.
@TheMiamichick12345674 жыл бұрын
That moment was great BUT to see all the trash during the tailgate kinda sends the wrong message... that was bad. If people are going to protest, you stay at the middle of the field till the very end. Don’t walk away because police appeared. Those that got arrested are the ones who truly wanted to get the point out there. It felt like everyone ran out there just for fun, because everyone was doing it. to seem like they partook in the protest and to be televised. Getting their 15 min of fame. Continue the fight, and do it at every game or every event to get the message out.
@SiennaSanter4 жыл бұрын
I think it's unfair to say that people who protested HAD to get arrested in order for their protest to be valuable. For many, this was a matter of safety and security (several of my friends if they got arrested would have been in serious trouble - risking being deported or having to leave school, for instance). I don't think it's fair to ask everyone to get arrested in order to support a cause - polite, civil disobedience and protest is just as effective. We also did not know the protest was going to happen until it did, given why so many people joined to support. My friends and I stayed on the field until the protest was finished but we stopped sitting down where the police were verbally abusing people and getting physical because that scared us. I stayed on the field to document what was happening because part of me was truly scared for my friends out there and I did not know what was going to happen. I am simply a participant so I can't answer for everyone but I think the point was made, we get national attention, and it seriously caused the university to consider the implications of their investment in fossil fuels. Changes are being made, and the Harvard faculty recently voted for the university to divest from fossil fuels, so this protest DID have an impact.
@SiennaSanter4 жыл бұрын
And yes, the trash during the tailgate was upsetting, but sadly that is often what happens when a school of 6000 people get together on one field. It had rained recently, and so all of our cases of beer sunk into the mud and got trampled on (people weren't just throwing their beers on the ground when they were done). However, we are not perfect in our activism, and of course not every single student present cared about climate change or the purpose of the protest, so be mindful that at the tailgate there was a mix of all kinds of students with all perspectives. I'm just documenting what I saw.

lmao the height of privilege, to say that a protestor's work isn't valid until they get arrested. like she mentioned in her response, just making it out of getting arrested is a big deal when you've got police brutality against POC and other students worrying about deportation, etc. so to casually say that every protestor has to get arrested when you don't even know what each person would go through if they got arrested is irresponsible.
@jonbullgrind54034 жыл бұрын
@@Potter4lyfe And those minority and immigrant students have the privilege of attending an Ivy League college while simultaneously avoiding any responsibility and accountability for their actions because they're minorities and immigrants! They're being told by people like you and Sienna that they can do whatever they want, but it's okay just because they're not white! They don't need common sense or ethics. They just have to use their skin color and cultural identity as a shield all their lives. Let's not ignore the fact that their families must be wealthy and comfortable enough to send them to an Ivy League university in the first place. Talk about privilege!
