Thank you for your good tips on garlic. I tried growing some elephant garlic this spring, even though I know I should have planted it last fall. Of course it didn't get as large as yours, but it did grow. I need to be planting my crop for next year soon. My normal garlic, soft neck, has grown for 3 years, from seed, and was large enough to get a good harvest this year, so I am very happy with it and we enjoyed some fresh cloves last night in our supper. God bless you for helping all of us with good tips. We really appreciate you.

UK Here We Grow not great I have to be honest. Hopefully get ALOT of preparation going on through the winter to have a great head start next season, we have around 10 weddings going in August that we are dressing so it's absolutely manic plus another shop opening up at the front of forge mill, perhaps u can bring your honey down and we will sell them for you haha. Great information as always! The look on your face when the rack fell... Priceless! Just wondering if drying on the wire racks in my greenhouse would be suitable, or are high temps a problem? I've got a good automatic ventilation system pushing air through, but sometimes a sunny day sees temps of 100*+ in there. Alternately I could move the racks to the covered porch, cooler with only indirect light. Thoughts?
@simplifygardening
@simplifygardening 6 жыл бұрын
Put them under the porch instead of the greenhouse, they would dehydrate in there if it gets too hot. Much better under porch as long as it has airflow
@blueponyfarm1962
@blueponyfarm1962 6 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking too. The unenclosed back porch/deck is generally cooler as it has a roof but is open on 3 sides for good ventilation. It's currently home to my July-planted spuds and carrots because it's been so hot here. Didn't want them roasted before they'd had time to grow 😱
@simplifygardening
@simplifygardening 6 жыл бұрын
A great use of the porch for your spuds and carrots. Do you use it for anything else normally?

It's 30 x 20 with a roof over half. We've a table and chairs for sitting out and enjoying the evening. The railing around the decking supports 6 English rose bushes. Prior to building our permanent greenhouse this spring, I had my 4ft x 6ft plastic greenhouse fixed to the sunny side. It's also great for potting on and hardening off young plants. 🌱🐝

Elephant garlic produces little "corms" at the base of the bulb which can break off and lie dormant in the ground for a couple of years before sprouting. I noticed you didn't check for these (in fact at around 2:45 I'm sure I see a couple fly off). Did you go back later to find these or do you just let them volunteer?

Why do you use GMT+1. You are in the UK and we run on either GMT or BST.
