I heard Daniel introduced himself three times in this video because he does three times the work!! My two favorite plants are red bell pepper because even in season they are $1.25 EACH at the stores and mine taste better. My second favorite plant is to buy vidalia onion sets. That is my go to onion in everything I cook. It's a staple in my house.

No one crop is most important. Most important is that we have food for the year, and buy as little at the store as possible. We have lived on one income and homeschooled for two decades, and we couldn't do that while buying our food in a grocery store. Our garden is tiny, but we triple crop our five beds each year, and raise all our fresh produce, food for canning and freezing, and some cornmeal as well. Thanks for the views of my beloved PA mountains. I miss them so much. All of my childhood was framed with mountains, and I never see them anymore. Grumbeere sup with rivels...

I not only enjoy watching your channel, I learn from it. Last year I would poke a hole, take a seedling, carefully put it in the hole, and cover it up. After watching you transplant, I did it your way this year. So much faster and easier, and they did great! Cut transplanting time by more than half. Your greenhouses are so full of healthy looking plants and your hanging baskets are beautiful! Can't believe how much the grew and bloomed since watching you plant them all. Sorry to hear Callie isn't feeling well. Hope she feels better soon. She's such an adorable little girl. We'll all be shocked someday when after your "Buh bye" she repeats it. Thanks for another great video and chance to see how things are going on the farm.

After spending a day in the fields planting I come in and relax by watching your channel. With everything else going on in the world, farming is really one of the only things I find worth doing and apparently watching. Our kids all left the farm to pursue work which pays better, and probably is not so hard. They do eat well, and go to buy their food at the local farmers markets, so they do get it. Love your multi generational farming family. Hope your season goes well!

Hi Andrew. The most important thing to have in our garden is patience. OK, beans (green and dried), followed by butternut squash, followed by corn (sweet), followed by flint corn. But we have tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, okra, onions, garlic, potatoes, and several herbs and flowers. Every garden needs flowers. Everything looks beautiful Andrew, and be kind with your granny. I'm sorry about Callie not feeling good. Tell Matt we missed him. I hope he is well.

When my parents had a garden we grew the same things and our zucchini got huge also. We would go out to the garden to check on them and they were still too small. We would figure another 2 days and they would be ready. In between we get some rain so we had to wait until day 3 to check and when we did some looked more like small watermelons than zucchini! 🤣

The most important thing to have in my garden is flowers! :D Don't get me wrong, I love tomatoes and I'll never not have them, but last year I had flowers tucked in everywhere and had the best tomato year I've ever had. Hoverflies are some of the best pollinators you find in the home garden and ladybugs did such fantastic work eating the aphids I got on my calendula plants. Calendula flowers are sometimes called 'sacrificial plants' because they attract aphids away from your plants (if you plant them away from them) and then soon after you'll get ladybugs eating the aphids! Not always applicable to a big farming scale to have flowers everywhere, but you guys have seen the cucumber plants when they're covered in flowers with bees. They love 'em!

From a nutrition perspective and perhaps also taste, the number one most important food item to grow oneself is their leafy greens because both a) they likely are the most nutritionally important vegetable to have in one’s diet, and b) moreover, once harvested, their nutritional value tends to degrade fairly rapidly. that’s why it’s so awesome that you guys have a farmstand; the produce is very fresh! I hope Callie feels better very soon, like right now!!! :/

For me, the most important plants to grow are peas and Swiss chard. Almost everything else needs some amount of direct or indirect sunlight. Last year, we had almost four straight months of very heavy clouds that were artificially created and blocked out the entire sky. Those two plants didn't care while the rest did. So, they shot up to the top of my list of must haves.

The most important thing to plant surely depends on what you like to eat. No point wating time/space/energy on plants that's sole purpose is to go to seed (unless your a seed provider of course). If you eat/use a lot, plant a lot. If you eat/use a little, plant a little. If you don't eat/use it, don't plant it.

I love watching all of your videos. I have a very small garden in my back yard. I started my garden out of grief back in 2002, when I lost my mother. I needed an outlet to help me through my grief. I had never garden before then. So,when I lost my dad in 2006, I continued gardening. Recently, I lost my only sibling and my best friend. I initially, thought that I would not garden anymore. But, the hurt, and missing of my best friend has been unbearable for me. So, I continued gardening. I currently have tomatoes, and onions, and peppers. I recently planted cucumbers for the first time. I am praying that my cucumbers and yellow squash come through for me. I never planted them before. Here in Florida, the sun gets very hot. So, I go out each morning and water them. I really hope they all do well. Keep the videos coming.

As a gardener the "most important things to have" would be whatever grows the best and produces the most usable/storeable food. That usually means Potatos, Onions, Green Beans, Peas.. They grow very well for me without a ton of input, yet they produce the most pounds of usable food that can be preserved/stored. Tomatos, Peppers, Herbs, etc are great but they're more for flavor than sustenance. Also finicky to grow for some climates/regions, more prone to disease and produce less.
