Turns out my "acoustic" settings sound really naff when being recorded. The playing is also a bit sloppy in places but it is what it is, not focusing on perfection :-)

xisumavoid so what amp settings are you using for Mettalica in general and how do you mute the guitar so dang well I've bean playing for 2 years and still have trouble muting. And where do you get the tabs/notation for these songs??

Its because it's not him playing. I've been playing for over 25 years and I can tell when someone is playing along, or its their own sound. This is mixed so you can hardly hear X, and what you are hearing is Kirk and James.

Not saying it was bad, and X has done a great job in the past year or 2 learning, but thats not him playing. I can tell he knows how to play the song, but again, that wasnt his sound.

Loving these covers, X. One you should try is by a band called 16 Volt, a song called "Suffering You." I discovered it through a game called Primal, where it was used as the fight music. I was in a cover band years back that did it, went over well at shows as something both different and fully metal.

nicely done dude... I always find my clean settings sound terrible when recorded... i've found rolling back the treble slightly seems to help (although not much)

Do you use an amp sim / breakout box to record? I get the impression acoustics are best recorded with a mic infront of the amp :-)

I use a bit of both.. most of my stuff is with an amp sim at the moment (simply not enough space to have a 4x12 set up to record)... But I have recorded with a mic'd cab before and found very similar results... didnt need to alter too much maybe not even bringing it back by 1 but it strangely only happens on clean settings... looking at a whole new amp set up soon though, hopefully full tubes and a 2x12 so i can mic it all up and get the best tone possible

X, when playing these particuIar Metallica songs it's gotta be all downstrokes. I'm not nitpicking, it will help you a lot in the long run. Plus it feels (audibly not physically) much better. This and Through the Never are how I got my downstroke chops up.
