I'm dying!!!! The New Freedom pads I think were the first with adhesive, before that the pads had long things that hooked onto a belt, or there were undies with hook things or could be safety pinned into your undies. Vintage!!! I was 13. This is way too funny!

I was 12 in '73...my first experience was "Modess" belted pads...yuk!! So glad when my friend showed me how to use a tampon...so I could swim that summer, YAY!!

Omg the belt for pads omg I had almost forgotten - got my first period at Girl Scout camp in the Sierras (“It’s the altitude” they all said) and I was given an elastic belt and a dozen pads each the size of a paperback book. Thanks for THAT memory 😂❤

I would love to see inside the second magazine. I was 21-22 in '72-'73, and couldn't afford these magazines-(my pay was $500 a month and I made more than my husband!). But I sure remember the products! TV was free and many of the ads were also on TV. Really enjoy you discovering these things! I also like seeing celebrities when they were young . . . the way I remember them.

Oh gosh I was 10 in '73 I remember pads have loops on them and you wore a belt to hold it in place... So glad they invented adhesive ones... Love that cocoa cola bottle it's huge... Awesome.. Yes please do the other magazine... Great fun xx

I was 4 when this magazine came out. Cupid's Quiver. LOL. Those hot dog recipes were so bad. I had the Fisher Price Little People's farm. My sister had the school house. We had the phone, too. We had a Sesame Street house that was similar to Little People. This video was amazing. Great video to watch.

I was a sophomore in 1973, so this was definitely a walk down memory lane! We HAVE come a long way, Baby😂 I had no idea how dominant the cigarette ads were back then, but that was before the Surgeon General took a stand, and cancer became something to be concerned about and it was no longer cool to smoke. So much has changed, and for the better, in that regard, you know what I mean? I would love to see the 1972 Christmas issue harvest!

Its crazy how many cigarette ads there are in these old magazines. When I was a kid everyone smoked, I hated it because it gave me really bad headaches. I actually went on tv to get my mom to quit smoking. It was just what she needed and she quit on my 18th birthday and never looked back

I was born in 1967 so I have very little memory of products in the early 70’s but I remember my mother telling me she used to use the pads with pins. Dreadful. So glad that was long gone by the time I started using them!

Yes!! A couple years ago I found an ad online where a teacher was giving away over 100 old National Geographic Magazines for FREE!! I drove over there and grabbed them so fast lol! I need to get some of those out and look through them. I orginally took out a stack and harvested them, but haven't looked through them in awhile.

Not anymore since research found out that they are killers. I couldn’t stand them then. What a change one can see in advertisements! And yes, magazines sizes were bigger. There are SO many cigarette ads! When I was little everyone smoked. I hated it, as cigarette smoke gives me massive headaches. I remember when restaurants would ask you "smoking or non smoking?" when seating you...to me it was more like "Smoke or Less Smoke" hahahaa! Glad that's not a thing anymore!

I am several hundred years older than you, so I can attest that when we were able to stop pinning our kotex to our underwear or hooking them onto the belt, we had plenty of time to experiment in the kitchen with hotdogs and mandarins and chinese pizzas! Nicole, I think this video got more comments then any other! It is so funny to see those ads. I am not hundreds of years old but was 29 when that magazine was published. I started my period in 7th grade (1957) I think and was in a girls health class, the teacher gave me the dime (I think it was) and when I opened the box from the machine, I had no idea what I was suppose to do with this pad and 2 safety pins! !!!!!! I guess I figured it out! I do miss the cigarette ad of the Marlboro Man however!!!!! Yes I was one of those smokers but I also quit! So please do that xmas issue, I can't wait to see what it holds.

Giiiiirllll those hot dog recipes where INSANE!! EWWWW! Absolutely not eating a dish with hot dogs and mandarin oranges! It seems like all the ads now days are perfumes, designer purses, jewelry and clothes. Less food ( well less meals more junk food ads), cigarettes, feminine products (we still see a fair amount but less).

Hi, Nicole. Love your videos and your chatting. So I will return the favor (sorry): In the very beginning, I think it was the first large photo in the magazine, the young woman said (after using the pads), "Now I like my self all of the time"!!! Really?? So she didn't like herself all of the time BEFORE she started using those pads? I was about 20 years old when this came out, and it sounds so ridiculous to me, as if your self-worth was about using the right pad! Also, yes, I remember people using safety pins to pin the sanitary napkins to their underwear. For instance, if you had mothers and sisters needing those belts too, it was common that you often couldn't find yours after throwing them in the wash. So pinning was the best bet and more comfortable than those belts! I don't remember when the sticky ones came out. Double-sided glue, ladies!! LOL. And we did NOT flush those pads. I couldn't believe they said that!
