Hi I have only one pumpkin and it started going yellow about three weeks ago, is that when I can pick it? I want to keep the seeds for re seeding so how do I know/tell if the pumpkin is ripe and ready

what's the phytate ? Sounds a lil nasty. ( eating ) pumpkin seeds so expensive to buy. linssed n pumpkin seed sounds like Power food combo

Well well, here's a reply six years later. I wondered the same. They are a derivative of phytic acid, and I can't find any reputable evidence that they are bad for you. You can't digest them, that's all. I do soak my pumpkin seeds after harvest, but just to remove some of the mucilage around the seeds, to reduce drying time.

It's actually more commonly called Styrian or Styrian Hulless - it was developed in Austria's Styria province!
