Oh what a treasure to have so many homegrown butternut squash to harvest!!! I live in south FL, and it so far, it's been a struggle growing those. It makes my heart happy seeing so many families making the most of their homesteads and hauling in all those wonderful garden blessings!

Is it too warm by you? Yes, have a garden is much more enjoyable with a family.

Yes, it seems the high humidity/heat here in south FL are an issue, not to mention the bugs.@@togetherweharvest

Thanks for sharing about your butternut squash harvest. That will be a great resource for your family over the next year. I like your trellis system (cattle panel and tee-pee). I am seeing more people use them to increase the square footage of garden space and it seems to work great for vining plants. Looks like you have a versatile piece of land and you're learning how to maximize its potential to provide for your family. Looking forward to the next video!

Great harvest, I saw that trick with the burlap sack/blanket in ur basket you carried them in at the beginning of the video. Keeps them from being damaged! I just love eating these as is out of the oven! Even the skin, it's where most of the nutrients are (i think)

Yes. Don’t see burlap too much anymore. They are good right out of the oven. A great food to eat when you’re not sure what to make. Thanks for watching !

Congratulations on a great harvest. We have squash vine borers bad here in SC so it's good you had no bug problems.
@togetherweharvest Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m sorry to hear about the borers. Many of my viewers have mentioned them struggling with the same thing.

Thanks for sharing. Great job! I'm growing butternut squash for the first time this year. I hope I get a nice harvest like yours.😊

You're welcome! Keep a strong out for squash bugs and cucumber beetles. For if you have any pest pressure, mix water with 15-20 drops of peppermint or rosemary (or both) essential oils in a 1 gallon pump sprayer and spray the vines, flowers and soil around the plant. It will keep them away.... Ask me how I know lol Best of luck to you!

Cool. Glad they did well for you. What's your favorite way to cook them?

Butternuts are my dream for the spring this year. I’m also in SC and the vine borers are brutal. I’m trying two short vine varieties and I plan to babysit them constantly for pest damage. I am determined. 😊

I like the determination. They’re an excellent food to grow because of their versatility. I hope they do well for you

So bountiful! About how many squash fruit per plant, on average?
@togetherweharvest2 ай бұрын
Averaged a little over 2 per plant. What we’ve noticed is that the really large squash usually are the only fruit on the plant.

I noticed that you have potatoes next to tomatoes. Do you find it doesn't make any difference which plants are planted next to each other, as long as they get enough sun and water?
@togetherweharvest11 ай бұрын
We have found no problems when doing that. I have heard from many people not to, but until it doesn't work out for us, we plan on continuing to plant them wherever we would like. I think planting certain plants near one another does matter for soil nutrient competition - for most gardens. At the moment, we have excellent soil with lots of nutrients that can handle heavy feeders planted near one another. Tomatoes and potatoes are heavy feeders and they've done fine.

For growing in container, what should be the minimum depth of container?

And,,,,,I store them for year....how? 🤔
@togetherweharvestАй бұрын
By putting them on a shelf. Literally just doing that has worked for us. I prefer an area that is a little cooler and out of the sun. We just finished our last butternut from over a year ago.
