The summer just gone I planted my Chayote plant up a garden trellis. It grew so well and was big and bushy with loads of leaves but it didn’t give me a single fruit. I was told by someone that there are male and female and I probably got a male one…is that true?

No, it's not true. It's part of the gourd family so one plant has separate male and female flowers. We had it in 2022 and they grew very well. In oktober the flowers started setting in the armpits. We tried to overwinter it outdoor but it failed. (Belgian/Dutch border) Probably too shallow planted. An acquaintance succeeded in the green house. He got nothing the first year but a big harvest the second year. Don't give any lime (calcium) it likes acid soil.

Yes I agree and in my opinion, I think some varieties of chayote take longer to make fruit, add a good amount of fish blood and bone fertilizer options: I add some fish heads and eggs under before planting. Thank you so much for watching 🥰❤️
