- John Deere 9780 CTS combined harvester with Kemper 8-row corn head.
- John Deere 7230R tractor with Fliegl ADS 120 overload trailer
- John Deere 7290R tractor with Stade corn mill.
- Fendt Favorit 712 Vario tractor with Kröger Agroliner tipping trailer.
- Fendt Vario 720 tractor with Alu tipping trailer.
- Fendt Vario 712 tractor with Holaras maize-leveller.

If you’re not European you might not appreciate this. Maize (corn) or soya are difficult to grow in Europe because of the wetter climate. Cereals like dry Maize or soya are imported, leading to accusations that European livestock producers are adding to rainforest destruction in Brazil (most of those making such claims forget that Brazil is a vast country, it’s actually bigger than Europe). However this is why you see this high energy crop being harvested close to a pig finishing unit. Both in terms of cost & environment, this makes sense.

Grappig. Ik reed met auto langs deze maïsoogst vorige week en vroeg me daarna af waarom het niet werd gehakseld. Van het weekend gegoogeld en nu deze op mn tijdlijn.

Great video Jeroen, Never seen this before. I think Maize has to be double milled before it is edible, during the Irish Potato Famine the British government bought lots of cheap corn from the US but there was nowhere in Ireland that could mill it, so it was useless.

There are several types of corn... Most arent ment for human to eat DIRECTLY.... Say the regular common dent corn which are mostly used for alcohol and animal feed. But you also have newly made TMR corn types where the stalk also is more digestible for cows which is used in corn silage. And then you have the type which humans can eat, GRILLED ORE BOILD ORE CANNED, which is SWEET CORN. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dent_corn

@@samkom33 Thank you for that - I believe the type brought into Ireland in the 1840's was Indian or flint corn that has an extremely hard shell.

@@martingardener90 thats right. even cows that digest and chew the food the food2 ore more times cant fully digest whole corn seeds, thats why they always check when chopping corn silage cutting the stalks in say 1/2 to 3/4 inch long pieces they also check that the socald kernel prossesor in the channel behind the knifes have enough tension to CRUSH the stalks and corn. cind of like a roller mill. so the choppers-farmer usually check at least the first load each harvest that every corn is crusd. Humans can eat and digest almost any corn type if hungry enough and the corn is grounded fine enough 😁 But i read somwhere that the fast growing type that give lots of starch-alcohol doesent taste as good as the sweetcorn ore the type they use for POPCORN. Heck my father was born in 1911.. i still remember when little he told and showed me how they used to make bread out of mostly TREEBARK DURING WW2.

That imported Indian corn was nicknamed Peels Brimstone by the Irish peasants as a swipe at the British prime minister Robert Peel. There was actually enough cereal grain grown in Ireland to feed the starving peasants but it was forcibly exported out to England.

I had a feeling it was animal feed. That's the main reason you ensilage anything, unless you want biogas. Bio gas and animal feed. That's the only reasons to make silage

It's actually very efficient...harvesting and grindding high moisture corn and then ensiling it right after...Saves you lots of money because you dont have to spend gas to dry it, also you dont need to do all the trips to the local mill...and (my favorit) you empty your field a month earlier

@@cbrpr It's not about the drying: It doesdnt make sense to grind the corn on the field, because the flour is lighter than the corn and you would have to drive less, if you would grind it on the target location
