The very basic flaw is attaching the piezoelectric transducers to the strips. Remember they work with changing pressure, the design can be significantly improved if the piezoelectric generators were attached to a solid holding and the vibrating strips hitting these transducers.

I agree it's a clever idea. I think, also, that harvesting acoustic power, could ALSO reduce ambient noise. I wonder, if using loudspeakers, instead of aluminum bars and piezo elements, could be more effective, since the speaker membrane could collect a way wider spectrum of frequencies... Maybe, also, the lower intrinsic impedance of loudspeakers cold give a better overall circuitry performance in terms of total current available.... .

Our ancestors used electroculture to grow better crops. It entails copper wire wrapped around a long stick stuck in the ground. the copper is coiled to the top and beyond the sticks's length. Then you place quartz in the coiled top because quarts is like a piezzo. Basically this device gathers electricity from the atmospheric conditions and creates a current going into the soil. This is without the quartz. With the quartz added, it gathers more electricity from wind and noises like thunder because it's piezoelectric. This increases the current when compared to not using quartz. Look into electroculture. The issue is that most vids don't seem to be aware of the quartz and the piezoelectric benefits, although our ancestors did.

For those looking for answers. I did some maths based -off this video. C = 4.7 microFarads P = I*V, Q = C*V, I = Q/t = C*V/t P = C*V*V/t Now, using values he got in 4:53, Given t = 100s, V=0.13V, P = 4.7*10^-3 * 0.13^2/100 = 7.943*10^-7 Watts or given t = 16s, V = 0.04V, P = 4.7*10^-3 * 0.04^2/16 = 4.7*10^-7 Watts Looking at some random LEDs on amazon, It's power usage is 0.6W. That's 127660 times more power than what the piezos generate in this circuit. Good luck with energy harvesting.

Not much. 0.2V is low and IIRC piezo's don't generate amperage. At that rate 600 elements would be needed to generate 120V, of course this might be at the low mA range too.

Approx. for demonstrated measurement: A_capacitor = 0.5 * C * V^2 = 0.5 * 4.7[uF] * 0.04[V^2] = 0.094 [uJ] P_average = A_capacitor / time = 0.094 [uJ] / 600 [s] = 156.7 [pW] Losses are minimum value as energy stored in caps.

Hello. I'm a grade 12 student and our group proposed that the vibrations coming from the sounds in a room can generate or can be tranformed to electric energy. We are trying to make a capstone about it. It is supposed to be a soundproofing material but with a device that will absorb the vibrations coming from the sounds and apparently convert it to an electrical energy. I'm not really sure about this, is this feasible?

good stuff. Recommend "Tate Ambient Power Module" circuit, which uses germanium diodes for rectification. The voltage drop is less. But also, you want to measure power not voltage. It might be good to stick with pulses and have a coil structure to get the voltage way up high. If you can get the coils to oscillate longer with less dampened oscillation (high inductance, low resistance), and tuned also with the frequency, the coils can serve as storage for power. You probably need to use a higher frequency though. such as 2khz. Earth NMR is around 2khz, btw.

The device harvests energy from the plates vibrating. Kinda like a tuning fork and if you know enough about tuning forks you would know that different lengths of the tuning fork make different pitches and a sound that has the same pitch to a tuning fork will make that tuning fork vibrate. This is how you can break a wine glass with your voice actually.

Sometimes we look too far for energy harvesting source....the most significant and undeniable that can produce a useable amount of power is the DC motor (hand crank or twist) and no other can do that more better even smaller solar panel can't do better than high powered dc motor which can produce higher voltage and higher amp ...all other sources are simply too small and useless. If there is a way to crank a dc motor more conveniently without much hassle it will be the beginning of new energy that better than the rest of energy harvesting. they key here is to find a better way to crank the DC motor how conveniently

This is exactly running in my head, not only sound but all energy that are from electrical(energy) that were converted to such as heat, opto, light , radiation, and many more . Then, they are complaining of lack of energy? Take note, many technical people have already work and prove for the said energy conversion. ??? The big question is Why? Why they are not utilising it? There is really something fishy going around? As what other people, many people(technical) have discussed this matter and just evaporate. Just to add other issue. China now has prove and improve the sodium battery which is quality in form and safe in all aspects as well as abundant in nature. Why it was stopped , that is the very big question again. It is questionionable that other technical people can not do/ enhanced it. Then, at the end of the day , Chinese people discover/invent/enhance it. Political will or capacity and skills to make output ,that lurks in this issues. Full Stop.
