It's moments like this one really that I become So grateful to be living in this era of the internet And actually for people like the video owner, that in the course of 41 sec I was able to know What exactly is A scythe and How does it work. Thank you So much for sharing this.

I made the cradle back in Canada, just before the trip to Nepal. The soaked ash wood strips are bent over a hot pipe (can be also steam-bend) and set into the frame members. The cradle was attached to the snath by a metal L bracket, so it can be adjusted vertically. This was a temporary setup for the trials and demonstrations, but it worked very well with the crops as shown in the video.

It is for the wheat, to make the sheaves. In my land is closer to the heel and have only three teeth. Is important to not lose any thing. Then we use sickle and twigs of willow or dogwood to make sheaves.

This is the intended purpose of a scythe not an improvement in purpose this is how it’s meant to be.

Amazing seeing it in action! Beats the sling-slang, as my great grandfather used to call what he used!

How did you make the scythe cradle? Looks very helpful for the wheat harvest. Great work.

Ok I don't understand something. Is the stalk of the wheat really sturdy? I always thought the wheat could bend and slide underneath the scythe. Is the stalk so sturdy that it resists the scythe blade and the blade can cut through it? I'm just imagining wheat as grass, where if you put a blade to grass it simply bends over to let the blade past it. Please help me!
@HydrogenNuke8 жыл бұрын
I'm not a expert and have only done this once, it seems that it is pretty sturdy to where you do need something to pull they wheat in the direction you want or it could fall over the wrong way and generally just be messy

It's more like the mass of the stalk. Mowing a lawn is more difficult. It helps if it's early in the morning, and your lawn isn't dead. Also there are some KZbinrs who are scary good at sharpening.

Scythe blades are usually razor sharp so not needing the effort we see used here.
