I know, I know, I use the word “legend” a lot on our show. But just listen to the introduction in this interview, and then tell me honestly….if Larry Carlton isn’t a legendary musician, who is? It was a huge honor and privilege having him on our show. He’s made a monumental contribution to the music industry!

Thanks a lot for this great interview. There are no words to express how Larry Carlton changed my life since I listened to Room 335 for the first time way back in the 80s. I saw and heard him play live quite some times when he came to Germany, and I got various opportunities to talk to him. I‘d like to share how it went the last time I met him. He played a great concert with the SWR Big Band in Rottweil, Germany. Before the show there wasn‘t plenty of time to talk, but he promised me to sign my guitar - „his“ signature ES 335 - after the show. And so he did. Then we talked about the guitar he was playing during the show, a brownish ES335 with a trapeze tailpiece, which I never saw him play before. He told me that the airline could not make it to provide the guitar on arrival at the airport, so he had to lend this other 335 (It took about four weeks until the guitar eventually arrived at his home in Nashville). I told him that if I would have known this prior to the show then of course I would have handed over my guitar to him, which might have been a better option, but it was too late obviously. Anyway, Larry was quite astonished that I really would have been willing to hand over my guitar to him for the show, he almost couldn‘t believe it. Maybe this little story shows what a humble and wonderful person Larry is. Larry, congrats to your mother, all the best! Can‘t wait to see you performing in Germany again.

Larry is my favorite guitarist. He has written so many great songs, in my opinion he is the Beatles of Blues/Fusion/Jazz/rock. I've been a guitar player since 1959.

Harvey: the intro was longer than some of the Factums you have read. For awhile, I almost expected you to say, well Larry, I have run out of time, before he could answer your first question.

Those intros, which have become a hallmark of our show, serve 2 very important purposes. They give the viewers the info they need about the guest to decide if they want to watch the interview. And much more importantly, the intro lets the guest know that, unlike most other interviewers, I’ve done my homework, and they’re in the hands of a pro. Those intros give the guest the confidence to relax and open up. They set the stage for a great conversation. Yes, my intros may be longer than some factums, and quite frankly, they’re certainly better researched and more well written than most factums I ever read. So, my friend, those factums (which by the way do not in any way shorten the remaining time available for my questions) are HERE TO STAY.
