Harvey used to be a typical blue collar steel factory based community. I grew up in the 70s here. My Dad and all his friends worked in the steel industry. We had a nice house and lived well. Then Dad's factory like all the others moved their operations overseas for more profits and cheaper labor. At the same time the Government dropped crack down in the already gum shocked struggling community. Today is the aftermath of all of that. However, there are some neighborhoods that are still pretty good. I believe the Hispanics and Blacks working together will restore this city I call home. I have often wondered why Harvey is always targeted for only negative press and I wonder what is so special here -- I believe it's the hearts of the people!

GLAD TO MEET YOU! I took my Inorganic Chemistry, Sociology, Psychology and English Composition at South Suburban College. JESUS HIMSELF taught me Inorganic Chemistry! The prof was vague and told me to get a tutor. The tutor was just like the prof, fast moving and vague. Night before our FIRST 5 chapter exam, I went to Wednesday night service at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle. I said, "Pastor Arrington, we're having a 5 chapter exam in Chemistry tomorrow, and I don't understand ANY of it!" Pastor said, "Pam, we're SURE gonna pray!" In the morning, JESUS said, Get your book. Well I had all A's in my OTHER subjects so I knew WHICH book to grab, the CHEMISTRY! JESUS said, THIS...is how you do this. THIS...is how you do this. And He continued that way through all 5 chapters! I went in and got EVERY QUESTION RIGHT! GLORY! (Pastor and Mother SURE prayed)! Not ONLY THAT, I got EVERY QUESTION RIGHT ON EVERY EXAM he gave me throughout his class! HALLELUJAH! He was flabbergasted. That professor saw a MIRACLE! And THAT MIRACLE is one of the reasons I graduated in 2013 from LMC with THREE DEGREES! JESUS took me back to school in 2011 so I could take sign language to sign John 3:16 "live" on the air with JESUS LOVES HIS PEOPLE! In 2014 THAT mission was accomplished ALSO! PRAISE be to the LIVING LORD JESUS! 💓 XOXOXO!!!

This is about 20 min from my house, but in a different neighborhood. One of the major reasons Harvey is like this is due to the insane property tax and business tax cost/regulation Illinois has put in place. The taxes put on businesses, apartment units, landlords, houses/housing has driven complete incentive out of the town specifically in Harvey and people are moving across the border like I did. The tax from the state actually costs more than the rental income the properties can make as landlords from the money received from tenants, which defeats the entire purpose of living situations so the buildings are being abandoned and the state/ Governor Pritzker keeps piling on the policies and rules.

They need a block captain on each street, each captain should exchange numbers, have a meeting without city officials, cut one of the lots on the corner invite everyone who lives in that community, get each name and address have them to write down what request they need , and believe me that community will get closer and be able to help each other, then the city officials will wonder who helping them, i did that and my neighbors are so helpful, once i start picking papers, can and etc, they started too,i brought my big green trash can with wheels, and started on my block, i picked a wed, trash go out on Thursday,

I also rented chain saws from home Depot and so happen a couple of guys cut and stacked them on one property, pay them a little money and told them thanks, and they said call me if you need us again, they was real helpful, they sent a guy with a bulldozer, he bulldoze the entire street, I pay him and now I own land on that street, I think when it's clean someone will purchase it, if it next to their property

I feel so sorry for this community and others, working together, and being concerned can really help, so many buildings going to waste,

Where Actor La Royce Hawkins from Chicago P.D. came from, I Visited Harvey Once back in August 69 with my Family a Month before I Moved out here to L.A. Today Harvey has its Issues & I heard a Lot of the Problems were from a Housing Project called Coronet Village I think? Which was Harvey's Homicde Problem Child at the Time.

'75/'76 school year: I spent the sixth grade in Lemon Elementary School. Best year of my life. Mr. Patterson was our teacher and he was one of the best. Good memories. Busing put me their but, when the option was put to me to return to my neighborhood school I declined.

I went to THORNTON back in the 90's when BEDROCK was right by the school. Lived in RIVERDALE when PACE SETTER was going crazy and DOLTON was hot then too. MARKHAM was no joke ROBBINS you had to be in and out to not get caught. And every knew dont go into PHOENIX when it's dark. It was killed or be killed then.

No need for all those homeless. The government could put them in these houses and give them dignity. Alot of these homes are older and far better than the junk materials used in new construction!

Does anyone think that these neighborhoods could become like the ghost towns of the west? Also would someone 150 years from now will move back in looking for antiques and selling them on E-bay or something like that?. Kinda funny to think about.
