I love the Tentacle Sync Track E. I also have Tentacle Sync TC boxes. All can be synced from my iPhone. For VO I love the RODE Podmic USB, which I use over USB C, and have its DSP switched on. For recording Sound Devices MixPre 6 Mkii Lighting: Godox SL200 and SL150 Monitor/recorder: Atomos Ninja V

Additionally to your list: Clamps, magic arms, and small LED panels. I can't even tell you how often those little items saved me

YES! This is what a "10 must have" video should be like! Bravo! FYI, in my channel I also focus on making the best use of the gear we have. I also love "No-brand" brands. For example; - I own the WeeBill S and for the price ($60 used) it is amazing! - My camera monitor is the Amazon FIre HD 8 tablet + a NO-BRAND HDMI capture card. - My A-Cam is the OLD Canon EOS-M that shoots reliable 12-bit RAW video in high resolutions (3K, 4.2K, etc.) - Photography camera is FUJIFILM's X-H1. For $600 is the best SOOC camera in the market! (IBIS, Film simulations, NO AA filter on sensor). - My voice over mic is an used AKG Y3 Lyra USB C mic, just plug and record! Best plug and play mic IMPO. (works great with an USBC portable device such as an iPad, iPhone, Android) - My webcam of choice is my iPhone 12! (Continuity camera with an ARM chip mac) Thank you so much again for the well put video!

Don't wait until your 5th decade like I did. Get a trolley. I use a low cost Rock-n-Roller R2. Fits behind the car seat and after 3 burst discs and a displaced kneecap, proof of my stupidity and misplaced can do attitude. Wheels rule - get some.

Great video, Harv, as always! The only thing I'd add is that a new filmmaker should adopt a solid process for investing in gear as soon as possible. This will save time and money and all the many benefits that come with saving time and money 😁 The one that I found works for me is to buy gear when I am trying to solve a problem. After pissing away so much money on stuff because "Hey, with X, I can start doing Y!" (I never did, and off to Facebook Marketplace to take a huge haircut for something that lived rent free on my gear rack 🤦‍♂️) Or "X will look so cool on [insert your workplace here], that will totally get me [insert ridiculous expectation here]!" (Sure, it does look cool, but $500 cool?! No, especially because it will NEVER DELIVER on your expectations.) I learned that when I purchased to solve a problem ("I'm sick of my budget tripod letting me down, time to get THE GOOD ONE!" or "I'm starting to do X a lot more. Maybe I should upgrade Y - it'll make my life a WHOLE LOT EASIER.") I was way happier with the gear and the results I got with the new kit.

I have a Portabrace top zip video cam bag that I used for a large rig setup that worked great. I'm now shooting with a much smaller setup and the Portabrace still works great to hold everything I need for putting in my truck for travel. But my go-to walk around with my camera bag is still my PeakDesign 15L messenger. That being said, I just saw the Guragear 30+ bag which might be worth checking out if you fly A LOT (it's NOT cheap!).

My standout favorite is the Tentacle Track E……….but………the Tascam you showcased here looks just as good and is less expensive.

That sound diffuser on the wall behind you in the opening shots is amazing. Can you tell me more about it? Apologies if you've covered it in a prior video; I'm new to your channel. (Edit: I also see it in "A filmmakers guide to acoustic treatment" but I'd still love to know more!)
