Has Animal Jam Become TOO EASY for New Players?

I honestly believe that this is a nice change for some people, as they have an easier experience. Also, their membership prices went up, so I guess that’s why they added the new “choose your pet” thing. On the other hand, there are still a few people mad about this change, as they had worked hard for their pets while the new jammers can get free pets. Honestly, the little “get a free pet if you log on for at least 5 days” button just solved the whole problem. This was a great documentation, and I can’t wait for more!

As someone who has been playing AJ Classic since 2014 and was a Non Member for years on that game (which is a real struggle even to this day) I think this change is great for AJPW. Don't get me wrong, it can be upsetting over someone getting something "for free" when you had to work hard for it, but think about how much easier it will be for the literal children playing this game. Heck I was 10 when I started playing AJ and I struggled so hard to get any items for non members that were even remotely good. Knowing that the kids playing now not only have more freedoms as non members but also get a better tutorial than what's on AJC and a free pet?? I find that great. In my opinion, a children's game should be more based on having fun than constantly grinding for stuff. I genuinely dislike things like the Alpha Items and the items AJ releases that are purely there to just add more to the whole rarity system in this game for 7-12 year olds. If anything, things like the Alpha items in the game only justify this positive change to me. So many of those new players may never even get the chance to own an alpha item even if they really wanted to. Letting them have just something nice even if it's for free is a very positive change. Heck on AJC non members can't even own the puppies or kitties, all we had was a hamster! In conclusion I think this change is amazing and the people complaining, as harsh as it may sound, just have to move on, there's nothing you can really do about this anyway. I understand how frustrating it is, but the bright side is that the children who just want to enjoy the game will have a better experience with it. This is really no different than the people who give away stuff or donate things to jammers who aren't that rare, it's just on a much larger scale. Besides it's just the lab puppies and the kitties, all of the other cool pets you can get you still have to work for, so I don't see the issue. You can't even customize the pet or name it, so really there's no reason for people to assume new players don't have to work for pets they'll want. I'm just glad to see that the game has gone from 2 measly den items on AJC to new players on AJPW getting better tutorials, a better selection of animals, a free pet, and even den themes for better inspiration.

As somebody who bought both the tiger and panda before they got sold for gems instead I see no issue, especially since saving for an animal to play as can be difficult, you have to play lots of mini games to earn 150 sapphires and the new players would stay in animal jam longer and make it a more popular fan base

Animal jam is the most fun ive had from a mobile game even with all the new updates. For context, I first downloaded this game about 4 years ago and fell out of love with it but I still log in every now and again just to see whats new. I just save my sapphires and try to have fun. My biggest flex in this game is having the confetti glasses, jetpack, and hat 😂.

For me, I am perfectly fine with new jammers getting more, personally I think it is great because it makes new jammers less likely to quit early on. I agree somewhat with your perception of "rare" animals, I am okay with them being brought back, but I also would be fine if they just released variants. Personally think it would be better because older jammers wouldn't be upset from the variants and new jammers or jammers who didn't get the animal the first time get a similar animal and fyi this is coming from someone who didn't have a raccoon before the Fab 5 Token. I was a-okay with just the rainbow, but don't get me wrong, I was gawking when I saw the sneak peek showing off that token and all the animals you could get from it. If Aj really doesn't want to upset both parties which I highly doubt they really care, but for the sake of argument let's just say they do, I really think releasing variants of animals, items, and pets would be the best option for those with a higher rarity.

it's a very 50/50 situation between older players and newer players, I'm a bit of both and luckily I get the best of both sides, I can't be ungrateful for what aj is doing for the newer players because a game does need to retain a player base to make a profit

I was pretty upset at first because I worked pretty hard for everything, took me a pretty long time to get pets (trading for pets) & the animals that used to cost sapphires but I think that it’s pretty nice for new jammers to get more stuff and not need to be like “pls give me a free pet/stuff” lol so I think that this feature isn’t that bad. I think that fab five was just cool since I really wanted an otter but what I really thought was infuriating was that sapphires are worth so much less I preferred when sapphires where harder to earn and not like you can get from almost everything something else that is sad for the Aj community is that people care so much about items rather then having fun and roleplays. Needing to make an income off of free-to-play game is not greed in most games you're paying like $8 Canadian for a pet $25 Canadian for a character. $15 a month for a subscription. You can get a den, a pet and a lot of items with one subscription service for $13 items are priced reasonably and the game has lots of updates

Back in February, I was so fed up about not understanding the rarity system that I challenged myself to gain worth without begging for free items. Like any other MMO, if you do not pay for premium (or convenience), its going to take you a LOT of time to get where you want to be. it took me a month and a half to get "rare". I finished the 'great gamer' badge quest. Finishing that badge quest left me with a lot of sapphires and gems. So I purchased a My Shop, Claw Machine, Touch Pool Arcade. You know, stuff that spawns in items that can be sold. then from the my shop sales, I slowly started purchasing Paintseed trees so I could participate in Phantom drops. Eventually in March, I got Starlight Wings from the Phantom drop and honestly tried to sell them off as fast as I could because I personally didn't like them. It might be under but I got 15k sapphires, a couple of ruby tier pets, Teal Forest Boots, etc etc. So even then, it was still based off of luck. In the end, I still do not understand, but I do have a lot of valuable items. lol So honestly, no! New Players do NOT have it easy. Old players ALWAYS try to move on the next niche thing when things like this happen. Those sapphires old players spent on Animals are long gone and they should've been okay with what they purchased. If not, all I can really say is try to be a bit more frugal.

The two complaints I don’t understand is definitely the new jammers getting free pets and the old animals thing. I mean it’s not like the free pets are good pets, they’re just cats and dogs which many people don’t even care about. I personally don’t even care about the free pet thing I think it’s fantastic. And as for the old animals, I seriously don’t understand that at all. Like you said, it’s not like these people can trade or gift these animals. I think people just got upset because they won’t be able to flex their old animals anymore or something like that. That’s really the only reason I could see someone being upset. Animal Jam classic constantly brings back animals so I don’t see why them bringing back animals on the mobile game is any different. I know Classic brings back each animal like almost every year but my point still stands

@@Minikitty130 So basically got sapphires by paying money and bought a shop. Then, it was a super-box month and I bought the super-box items and sold the items for cheap. I then bought a new den and Arctic wolf because yes lol. After I bought items such as nocturnal cuffs and horns and blackout bow, etc. I recycled the starter items for gems and bought stuff in game that cost gems then sold it for cheap sapphires . After around 10 minutes I bought membership, then den items like phantom portal, pet sitter, paintseeds, etc. I bought adoption coins and got pets to sell and then level some up that I liked. After around 15 minutes, I looked like a decently rich jammer.

I've been playing this game for around 8 years (give or take) and, IMO, these updates are really good for newer players. Giving them a pet rules out the "give me a free pet I'm new" scam, and makes players play the game longer which grows a stronger community! It was a good choice to make them untradable, so you couldn't just farm spares and basically duplicate pets. I do think the thing with the fox coming in stores was a bit unfair- Making them cost sapphires, or at least give older players who recently had the animal a refund in sapphires, would be a more practical choice but other than that, I think animal jam is making a good choice overall! Btw, how are you feeling? On Lala's stream you told me you weren't feeling great. That really sucks- I hope you feel better soon, and good luck on Jambassidor!

I used to play before this whole free pet buisness, left and recently started a new account. And, tbh, I don’t have a problem with it. Since the target audience is little kids, after the popularity drop, they need to make it a little easier. I think it’s pretty smart, but they need to try to adapt for their younger and older audiences.

I kinda dislike the update too cuz now you cant even choose your animals name, and now the old tutorial is gone which was so peaceful and nostalagic :( About the pet update i think it wasnt worth to do it because jammers should get their first pet with good memories and a pet with colors they prefer. For some ppl the superbox and encore animal thingie was like super exciting and awesome but for some ppl it was a shame cuz they prob had an old animal which was rarity and uncommon. I feel like after Nazara bought AJPW the population of it started to decrease :(

I personally got really mad when I found out that they’d made foxes, pandas and tigers free/for gems. I really don’t think it was necessary to make them free, especially foxes. I know they just want to give new players more choice and stuff, but in total I spent 450 saphires on all of those animals, and these were in the days I had no membership and there were no daily spins and stuff so saphires were much harder to get. I got especially angry over the fox, they’re like the best animal in the game in my opinion when it comes to design and it was my main animal but now I wouldn’t want to really go out as a fox much because now they’re just a common gem animal. I didn’t mind the pets though much because as you said in the vid, they’re just common pets that are like 50 saps. But the foxes I still am upset about. It’s not the fact that new jammers get foxes and I didn’t that upsets me, it’s the fact that I barely use my fox now even though it’s my fav animal because now it’s associated with new jammers and stuff. That’s just my very strong opinion on the matter, feel free to disagree with me of course. I have forgiven AJ by now of course but I still wish foxes weren’t free 😢

Honestly, I think its unfair that new jammers get all of that new Pets/Clothing/Den items, I feel like they feel more intitled to more items, I see a lot of new jammers lvl 1-8: Asking for free items because there 'Poor' It gets annoying bc i see it a LOT in the: Fox lairs: Sapphire shops: Pillow rooms: Etc, Before you had to start up from scratch, No free pets, No free den items, No extra gems and sapphires, The update is nice, But more people are starting to realize aj is giving more 'alpha luck'' to new jammers, So more people leave there accounts to new jammers.. respectfully, if we’re going to cry about animal jam bringing back old animals because of their “rarity” that’s just ridiculous while purchasing with real money YES is a whole new can of worms, like you said animals have no rarity so animal jam community don’t cry over animals coming back because they’re “rare”… thanks
