I think it is resolved in 2 ways. 1) Discovery. In the lawsuit they go over Paypal Honeys records and find out who they were stealing from. 2) They may have to pay back the stores for the fraudulent commissions. The stores themselves know how much they paid to Paypal Honey. If this is fraud then Paypal would need to return that money to the store. This wouldn't benefit the influencers.

@@ZombieBraintrust Makes sense. Might be too complicated to pay back every single influencer affected. It's not even guaranteed that part is illegal. It'll definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out.

You can imagine Walmart and Amazon suing Paypal over this scheme. They paid out a significant amount of money for marketing in the form of affiliate commissions to Paypal. Paypal didn't perform that marketing and likely violated the terms described in their agreement to get access to affiliate commissions. I can also imagine Alphabet (Google) removing the Honey extension from the Chrome store. Alphabet could sue Paypal for uploading malware onto their service.

@@ZombieBraintrustI will not agree to an affiliate agreement with last-click attribution. There are likely special terms described in their special agreements. This scheme could work without an agreement to get paid. "A" small commission. The stores(NOT PayPal Honey) are the ones that went with last-click attribution because it is easier to implement. The stores could go with a fairer system of attribution.(some have) Time to FIX the system by rethinking the industry standard of last-click attribution models. My fear is PayPal Honey could win.

I think youll be 4 for 4 on your guesses about how they scam people. Just missing the theft of affiliate sales, but who would been able to guess that.

I must be an inside man! But in all seriousness, the affiliates scam was genius.
