Last month I commented on your passion for sportscars. At 78 and a MX-5 owner, I'm now on my 4th MX-5. I bought my 1st ND in 2015, then bought 2017 due to the milage I put on the 2016. I drove the 2017 like I stole it up until the new engine came out with the 181hp. Yeah, I bought the 2019 and put a little over 80K miles on it. Now I'm in my 4th MX-5, a 2023 with Terracotta leather. All of my MX-5's have been straight stick, or manual trans. All have been ragtops. All have been the perfect and all have reminded me of the 1964 and 1966 MGB's I owned prior to receiving my draft notice in June of 1966. Hey! Life is what you make of it. Life can be fair if you get out and work for it, this ain't Heaven, but driving an MX-5 is as close as one can get these days. It don't take me long to look at a horseshoe man! I went for the MX-5 roadster like a beer goes with shooting pool. Oh, but the way, loved your story, honest and straight up. P.S. Just ordered a Goodwin Axel-back racing muffler for the new one. One of my grandson's is going to install it for me. I can't do that shit anymore.

I’ve already started my seventh year as an ND driver, and the car simply doesn’t get old; it’s a treat to drive every time, even if it’s not on a backroads romp. Just drop the top and GO! A terrific sense of freedom that bigger fancier more complicated cars simply cannot match.

That was fantastic storytelling! Outstanding. I bought a 2007 NC 3 years ago and fell in love with the Miata. We have had a Mazda of one kind or another for over 25 years. Great company that does put fun into their brand. I was thinking I would be upgrading my Rev 1 version of the NC and then got hit and it totaled my beauty. Now I have a Rev 2 Grand Touring PRHT 2010. I think it is now my forever car. I’m 62 so I think that’s a reasonable thought. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks for this video. It really resonated with me.

Great video! Thanks for posting. I had an NB for 18 years. Absolutely loved it. I just couldn't imagine not having it. Many times in early spring I would have a fleeting thought to sell. Then I'd take it out for a drive and put those 'crazy' selling ideas out of my head! Around came the ND2 and a local dealership had one in their lot. Several times I pulled over to look at it. Twice a salesman came out to offer assistance and a chance for a test drive. I declined being totally satisfied with my NB. Then I started watching Miata ND videos on KZbin . That was it! I found a preowned 2020 with the specs that I desired on the internet, flew 1200 miles across country and drove it back home! The 40 extra horsepower compared to the NB is amazing (but nothing wrong with 140). I have enjoyed it as much as you describe! Life is too short to be thinking about a MX-5 and not buying one !!!!

I've had two NA's. Loved those cars. Made in Hiroshima the quality was undeniable. The first one, a like new, red, 1990, was totalled when an old woman hit me head on in an intersection because she was blind, no really, legally blind. But in Montana old people drive until they hit someone. The second, a 1993 limited edition, with a hardtop was totalled by a hailstorm in a tornado. Miatas are drivers cars. My favorite memory is a double 90 degree turn on my commute. The speed limit was 25. For some reason, the other drivers always raced to the first turn, like I was going to get in their way. The approach speed was around 50. In my Miata I approached at 50 and continued at 50 through both 90's, watching just how far the other drivers would push their cars' ability. Of course they had to brake madly at the first turn and when I was through the second they were a half mile behind me. Smiles, every time. Although I loved these cars, they had a reputation in the US at the time of being "girls' cars," and I was regularly abused for this by friends and strangers. I like the new hardtops like what you have but I think an asphalt colored car is a bad idea. I was driving a RED one and a woman couldn't see me. These cars have left me favoring Mazda in future car purchases. Presently I like the CX series, in red

Many people who criticize the Miata haven't even driven the car. I'm glad to hear and view your perspective on the RF. When I first marketed the mx5 in late 89 I sold the car over existing rx7s. And I even owned several rx7s. The 1.6 liter 4 cylinder had a great race history in turbo form and in non turbo form was placed into the miata. Lots of great engineering and design. If you can find the original miata book sent to dealerships you'll be rewarded with the design history and ultimate goals of the original miata. And the thoughts to build a lotus elan type vehicle with exhaust sounds of an English mgb. By the way I subbed. Have a great weekend. The original miata drove much like my 83 rx7 only with a glorious convertible top and available with a optional hard shell top.

It’s been two years since I bought my 2019 RF GT-S and it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I usually switch out cars pretty often. (I’ve had 30 since I was 16) I can’t think of another car that I’d rather have so I’ll be driving this one for a long time. Sidenote, I put Flyin’ Miata sway bars on the car almost immediately. That’s the one upgrade this car needs to fix the factory handling.
@MisterMiyada2 жыл бұрын

Depending on the funds you have available, I've read that the best way to improve handling is with springs and dampers or coil overs before sway bars. Sway bars tend to tie the independent suspension together (kinda defeats the purpose). With my old NC, I installed Meister CRDs which are designed to be used with stock anti-sways. Turned out to be an excellent choice.

Been thinking of trading my Subaru STI for an ND2 for a while. I loved the video and it became very relevant to me when you brought up your ownership of your WRX. It sounds like you love the ND way more! Tough decision as the STI is a great car too but no where near as nimble as the Miata.

I loved each and every one of the 125k miles I put on the WRX. She was a ham tossing around at auto cross back in the day. I always wanted an STi in the Hawkeye headlights. @@MisterMiyada that’s great to know man. The WRX is it’s own class. Why did you sell yours? Hey, there hasn't been many car manufacturers that's brought out a 1st generation model with zero problems, assuming they were driven properly. Possibly Honda? Mazda's reputation is comparably flawless. I have memories of the 1st V-8 Chevrolet came out with in the 1955 Chevy's... the 265ci V-8 was an oil burner due to the cylinder walls were polished which allowed oil to flow past the cylinder rings. Their fix, believe it or not was to drop some Bonamy cleaning powder down the carburetor so it could scar the walls of the cylinders. It stopped the oil burning which was amazing.
@MisterMiyada Жыл бұрын
I agree, most first generations come with bugs, especially when manufacturers try to boldly go where no car has gone before. Toyota and Honda have a few first gen gems. That first Scion xB (Toyota Bb) was so simple from platform to engine to the wheels. The four cylinder in there was anemic, but if you got it with the 5-speed manual, I’d bet it would last forever. Keeping it simple helps keep the markedly bad bugs away for the most part. Thanks for sharing your story about the Chevys. Simple fix won that challenge as well.

I love the look and drive experience of the ND MX-5, but given the propensity for the Skyactive G engine to suffer significant carbon fouling due to the Direct-Injection-only fuel system, that results in the need for walnut media blasting every 60,000 miles and in some cases, every 10,000-15,000 miles, coupled with the reduced trunk access, I couldn't bring myself to buy one. Instead, I’m looking at the older variants.

How do you like the cloth seats, are they comfortable and are they heated. I think the cloth is definitely cooler in the summer. Everyone seems to go with the leather though. Thanks.
@MisterMiyada2 жыл бұрын
Cloth seats for me are preferred. Comfortable enough for a tiny sports car like this. They are heated, both driver and passenger for the US market MX5. I would not trade these for leather at all.

I sat in one at the Mazda dealership and couldn't wait to get out of it. It is way too cramped and the windshield is too close to your head. I have a couple videos coming that will discuss aspects of this specifically for the ND. But for now all I can say is that on the downhill, I’m using the stock power and handling to keep up with V6 and V8 vehicles. I love putting pressure on those guys. But yeah on the freeway and stop light to stop light, I just don’t even try to keep up with anything with decent torque. ND2 is 0-60 in 5.7 depending on which publication tested.

Liked my RF, but some issues are hard to overcome: the short legroom, odd accel pedal angle, no storage, Nav screen crashes, Apple Carplay issues, too tall driving position, floppy handling.....all keep it from being a 'keeper'. Too much shortcuts in engineering and refinement. Fun like a puppy, but one that chews your shoes every day.

Mazda info is garbage. I had Apple play crash all the time in cx-9. I had chance to drive All gen of Mazda over the years and they all have that floating suspension stock. If you want stiff ride out of box go try s2k. Btw I did notice Mazda put up really good times against my s2k at time attack

@@kdavid123186 Thank you Dave! Much appreciated. I'll have the RF until next fall, so I am just doing little projects on it, and otherwise enjoying the playfulness of it. I am older now, and trying to buy all the cars I lusted after in my youth but could not afford at the time. My current daily is a 911 GT3, and I think it makes a lot of flaws stand out about the RF. (duh, right?) But, I traded a Golf R for it, and the R was so very well-engineered, but lacked the playfulness I wanted. Ultimately, I want something a little raw like my old Integra Rs back in the day. Loved that angry V-tec motor, and it came in a usable body. Also, Way back in the day I had one of the Mazda/Ford Probe GTs (1994 I think) and they had that suspension DIALED! Wonder why they put the Miata on stilts? I loved the S2000 BTW. @@hypnotechno I too was considering a model 3 last year when I was shopping. Obviously I went with the Miata. My situation was different then. In May 2021 the wait for a Tesla was longer than the Miata already on the lot. Plus Tesla didn’t have the tax rebate any more so it was also going to be more expensive because my taste would be to go for the fastest model 3 trim. Also my wife has a perfectly good civic sedan that we can use for more practical stuff. If you have only one car that you can use in the household and you can get the Tesla sooner and don’t mind the higher price, model 3 all the way. If you love Miatas, don’t have a lot of stuff to haul on the daily and still love having gears to shift, then you already know the “always” answer.
