Welcome to the season 3 finale of The Bear, also known as The Haunting of Carmen Berzatto. That’s actually where we’re going to begin: this paranormal business. It starts as a joke in episode 5: Sammy Fak (John Cena!) haunts people, which turns out to be a doofy way of saying that he trolls them into submission. But The Bear doesn’t leave it alone. In episode 9, Neil and Ted Fak (Matty Matheson and Ricky Staffieri) tell Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) that Claire (Molly Gordon) is “haunting your ass, dude.” In retrospect, it explains the vibe of the barely lit, ghostly-looking Claire flashbacks.
Clearly, Sammy’s (man)childish bit is meant as a pretty on-the-nose metaphor for how Carmy deals with pain. He has no real coping mechanism aside from work, so his problems never really go away. They stay. Linger. Follow him around. And you know what thwarts a haunting, right?

I think the main problem with this season is that it's a set-up season. It's preparing for things to come. Unfortunately, you cannot have exclusively set-up for an entire season of television, especially one like The Bear, that's so fast paced. Nothing pays off and it leaves you feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

Yeah, I just watched all of season three and episode. One was really good and the last episode was pretty good but in between that it was dull and repetitive and nothing really happened in the show. It was just I don’t really didn’t really care about these characters and Jeremy Allen is very good actor. He’s really cute but besides it’s likerepetitive that’s all I could say

Shes whatever. I dont see her as significant and i dont find the writers actually making her significant beyond meaning a lot to carmy. I see her more as someone we dont get to know but that apparently means a lot to our main character. Because this show is not about shipping or their romance. Its just apart of his life and shes a family friend. Shes not actually an insufferable main point of focus like sydney.

And I want to believe it's for a reason. I know for a fact it IS for a reason. Especially in this kind of show that has masterful writing, and KNOWS how to write people/characters/their circumstances. The writers should know what they're doing but it's just irritating/annoying for me and I don't know if that's the point. i guess that's what makes me so upset in the first place. That I don't know if that was actually their intention or not

Yeah, just seems like Kayla is projecting onto what she wants the show to be, and they used season 2 as a way to test the waters with experimenting with the style of the show. The show is not about shipping, theres a 100 awful CW shows for that nonsense, the fact that she couldnt even acknowledge that they literally said why Carmy and Richie are fighting to the other characters shows her lack of comprehension towards the season smfh. Tina ep was so good, and they already said season 4 would be like a part 2 to 3, as well as the finale, this just came off like a super tone deaf reading, especially when the bear is so dense and overwhelming, you need multiple watches to comprehend a lot of the worldbuilding. Had to rewatch ep 1 to realize that Chi Chi was the same guy who hooked up Carmy w the meat connect.

I totally understand where most of the criticisms for this season come from, it is a very frustrating series of episodes especially after having to wait a year to follow up on Carmy getting out of that fucking freezer, but I think the whole point is that he’s still stuck in the freezer and is keeping everyone else stuck with him. Carmy has become the antagonist of his own story, and we see mostly through Syds and Richies eyes just how annoying his behavior has become. Chris Storer knew that part III would absolutely kill the audience, but he also already had part IIII written. In fact, the seasons were filmed back to back. They wrapped filming on both seasons only two weeks before part III premiered. Anyway, my theory is that we’re going to be getting part IIII a lot sooner than usual, like a matter of six months at most if I had to guess. This would mean we wouldn’t have to ruminate with an unmoving story for too long. Chris probably set it up this way because he knew it would be awhile before he could get actors back, but also because he knew how frustrating this most recent season would be for fans. Idk tho that’s just my theory.

@@hamm8934 I’m a lawyer so I’m also roasting myself (no pun intended). The bad boss to nervous wreck pipeline is very similar to my own experiences. I was being a little flippant but I also meant that it was a subtle and smart reinforcement of a message that they were also conveying with the non Joel McHale chefs. That where art and joy and nurturing are at the centre of your practice, then the bad days are liveable because things are where they need to be ultimately. With Carmy, you see him recreating not the majority of chefs he’s come across (the loving, tough, but ultimately supportive bosses), but instead Chef David (Joel McHale). With Claire, she’s telling these awful stories about caring for people in the worst moments of her lives but she also loves Mondays. She loves her job. Because the centre is right for her. She is the peace. But yeah, it made me laugh. My job is currently in the middle of stressing me out to a point that’s unhealthy & among lawyers it’s common to hear “come on, we’re not saving lives”. So to literalise that with the duality of a doctor and chef… it made me laugh. I related. I was initially disappointed with The Bear season 3 because, similar to the things you mentioned, I was expecting the season to move the plot a lot. Season 2, the "Every second counts" season, moved the plot a lot so compared to that season 3 has almost no plot movement. But after accepting season 3 as a 'supporting' season, a season that gives additional back stories and tiny character moments, I was able to appreciate it better (during a re-watch). Things/moments in season 3 that I like: 1. The contrasting effects of Chef Terry and of Chef David (A*shole Glasses) on Carmy. Carmy often shouts in the kitchen when things are not going smoothly. That's definitely a Chef David effect. Chef Terry was also strict but not an asshole like chef David. In one of the flashbacks, Carmy started raising his voice (not shouting yet) at Luca because Luca can't keep phase with him. Chef Terry told Carmy to keep quiet. You can see from chef Terry's expression that she doesn't approve that behavior. 2. The Tina backstory. It gives the reason why season 1 Tina was so opposed the changes Carmy's doing to The Beef. In the back story, Tina mentioned that she was jealous of those kids (either the young people handling her job applications or the young people that were her competition for the job) because they're 'hungry' and that she have lost that 'hunger'(or passion). Sydney represents that young competition for Tina in season 1. 3. Tiny character moments: Marcus telling Tina something he learned in Copenhagen to help Tina improved her dish. And also, Tina trying to create her own dish. The party in episode 10 (including Chef Terry doing the Salt Bae pose, heating frozen pizza, and putting caviar on waffles). Richie x Jesse. 4. Sydney's dilemma. Sydney wants creative freedom and proper credit for her work. These are her motivations for wanting to leave The Bear. In episode 10, Sydney was listening to the stories and experiences of the chefs that worked in chef Terry's Ever restaurant. Later in the same episode, Sydney started having a flashback of The Bear's crew. Sydney's The Bear stories are like those chefs' Ever stories. If she leaves The Bear now, Sydney's The Bear story ends there. Sydney obviously appreciates The Bear's crew that's why she broke down after having that flashback.

I’m trying to think of other tv shows dedicating a whole season to setting up the next one and the only example I can think of MCU shows being set ups for their movies. They go out of their way to highlight several background characters, convoluting the flow of the overall plot, and what we got was an entire season that barely focused on the main character in season 3. With plenty of episodes about background characters, which is nice for the actor and can be interesting, but overall does little to nothing for the plot. So so what? Season 2 still had so many highs though, that christmas episode was the peak of the series so far for me. Explained so much. Nothing in season 3 had that impact. It was a lot of emotional nothing

i was also SO disappointed, because season 2 was perfection, and season 3 was good but felt off. there were way too many story lines, that a. often made little sense and b. were often not fully followed through. i think the producers just got greedy due to the success of season 2 and wanted to cash in as much and quickly as possible. apparently season 3 and 4 were filmed back to back, which means they wrote and directed 20+ episodes in the same time they used to write and direct 8 episodes in. the first episode was great for setting up a great season, episode 8 was good because we finally learned a little bit more about the upbringing of the berzattos, but the episode about tina for example was too long, too slow, and too predictable. i really hope they re-edit season 4, which is actually just the second part of the third season, and tie those loose ends. my biggest problem is: why is carmen losing his shit and sabotaging his own success? he broke up with claire to focus on the restaurant, just to change menues daily for no reason and throw everyone and everything off? why couldnt they stick to one menu a month? whats wrong with using affordable produce and using the cooking skills and not orwellian butter to make things taste extraordinary? its almost like he wants to run it into the ground?

The faks for me was the WORST decision they could have possibly done. They shoehorned them into EVERY EPISODE, like why do we need a scene of them doing something stupid that doesn't further the plot, when we could be diving more into sydney and her relationship with carmy. This season just felt so off, them trying so hard to convince us that claire was a good character, Carmy yet again yelling and screaming at sydney like she isnt that only reason your restaurant is thriving. The writers need to take their time instead of just spitting out seasons because its become so popular.

Completely disagree. I wish I had family memebrs like the Faks growing up. Having grown up in a tumultuous household myself, witnessing the camaraderie among the Faks who genuinely love and support each other is healing. Have you considered that the writers might be intentionally mirroring the sibling dynamic between the Faks and the relationship between Carmy and Mike? And also, Claire is, in fact, a well-crafted character. It feels like, to me, most of the disdain for her stems from a possessive audience mentality, where some viewers irrationally perceive Claire as "stealing" Carmy away, which is quite juvenile. And the writing is superb.

This season felt experimental or like…lion king 1 1/2 if you get my drift. It feels like season 2.5 not season 3. Like I’m still waiting for season 3 in the mail. First episode is like completely running laps in carmy’s psyche and past. Montages, artsy food shots, minimal dialogue or progression in present day plot beats. Whole episodes dedicated to sugar’s birthing moment. Not a lot of reaction beats from other characters as it’s focused on just her and mom’s dynamic. Marcus’s mother dying and how that naturally slows down things as everyone kind of has to sit and reflect. Flashback episodes that are great, but again…main plot is on the shelf. I’m gonna have to rewatch because it’s like the men in black got me and I’m forgetting things fast. The last episode felt like the inciting incident for season 3. Like…that should be s3 e1. Luca staying for a few months, carmy confronting his abusive co worker/boss, finally seeing some reviews pour in.

I had some of these same thoughts after watching the season for the first time. However, after thinking about it for a day I changed my mind. In my opinion, this is part one of a two part arc of the story. These ideas that go no where are still boiling. They are building tension. The pot is boiling. Sid's decision, the review, Carm reaching out to his mom and claire, the non-negotiables etc. are going to pay off. We are still building towards these payoffs. Yes it feels like nothing happened but that is the point. In my opinion this is only part one of these conflicts. We were not meant to see them payoff. It sucks and makes this season feel empty and weak, but after seeing where these stories are going to pay off it will in turn make the build up (season 3) more meaningful. It's frustrating but the "To be continued," kind of makes this theory have life in my opinion. If this theory is true, then it would be like watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and saying it sucks because nothing pays off, while there is still a last part to the story. The fak's did get annoying I totally agree lol. Also, the last episode has some of the best dialogue about what restaurants are. As someone who has managed restaurants for over 4 years, not only is the majority of this show accurate as hell, but the last episode made me cry as it relays the message of what restaurants stand for. The fact that the characters relaying the messages are actual chefs makes it even cooler. They go into heartwarming detail about why they do what they do. Restaurants are hard. They beat you down and then beat you down more. But falling in love for the intimacy of what a restaurant stands for is what keeps you going. I unfortunately disagree with what you said.

Like every episode and every other scene was just two characters monologuing to each other constantly without moving anything forward. Claire frustrates me because there is so much that we know about her that could be explored, but isn’t. She’s a doctor, a job that involves caretaking and healing, and has a relationship with Carmy in which involves her as a caretaking and healing presence in his life. We don’t really see Carmy doing the same thing for Claire. She’s just constantly being a good person taking care of the people in her life emotionally, and I would love to see an episode exploring that - maybe just following her “day in the life”. Does it ever frustrate her? Is she drawn to Carmy because to a certain extent, he is like another patient for her to take care of? Even her one note personality could be explored. Maybe she’s pushing down her flaws and her personality because she feels like she has to be a caretaker all the time. Maybe the way she is perceived by the other characters and how she perceives herself are completely different. The show doesn’t seem interested in that, which is odd for a show that takes time in exploring so much of what makes each character who they are. Claire doesn’t seem to be a character at all. She only had one purpose as Carmy’s maybe gf and that’s it and that’s a missed opportunity.

the goal of the season is to get a star, they did everything they could and there's nothing more to do but to wait, that's why the last episode is not in the bear but in Ever, the story of these other chefs are the tool writers use to reflect the struggle of Sydney and Carmey; Sydney is struggling about whether she should take the CDC deal since its almost like she could never get the same validation the other chefs talks about from Carmey while Carmey slowly realizes that he is slowly becoming the same chef that tormented him in Empire , Ever closing down is also chef Terry's answer on the question whether if devoting everything you have to reach perfection worth it which is also the theme of the entire season. the last episode is almost perfect imo

The ice chips episode had me in tears because I can relate so much to what its like dealing with a difficult and toxic mother. You do everything to distance yourself from them short of cutting them off entirely but when it really comes down to it and those crazy scary life events happen they are still there for you and show up and somehow make you feel okay like a mother instinctively knows how to and is supposed to. Family can suck but it's a beautiful thing at the same time.

Guys come on season 3 is very obviously a set up for season 4. It's like critizing across the spiderverse for being a set up for the 3rd movie in the trilogy. it's all for a reason. It's all for a purpose. You guys should learn from Tina, be patient. I swear on my life, the wait WILL be worth it. Anyways, i don't really understand why you guys didn't like the more character driven episodes. I do like the plot, i do. I'm very excited to see how the story ends, but i think characters are JUST as important as the story itself. Good characters empower a good story. The combination of these two things makes it an even better show. But i guess you can also contradict these statements by naming series (instead of a movie, that i had listed, which has less showtime than an actual series) that only have around 1-2 seasons that have a full story and fully developed characters and such, like arcane? That show was absolutely incredible. The second season is coming out soon, which I'm very excited about, and the world building, the characters, the filmography that's incredibly smart. They got so much done in such little time and it's genuinely such a good story. But all good stories take time. I think we can wait. Everything else aside though, i absolutely agree with the rant about Claire

I dislike that everyone thinks that there needs to be resolution or change. I love how broken everything is, how unconnected everything feels. He’s regressing. He’s falling into the trap that his brother did. Everything is falling apart because he doesn’t think he’s good enough. Zuko didn’t change anything about himself for all of season 1 of Avatar, Zuko regressed in season 2 of avatar. Carmy is unable to break out of the mentality that has been forced into him. And he’s forcing the bear to be like the places that ruined him. Forcing himself into a stasis he put himself in, and one that his brother was in. Fine dining is a tar pit when you are unable to connect to your restaurant like a family. The way ever felt. Perfection ignoring connection is the plot of this season. They say it in the last episode. The issue is that carmy ignores it. An arc where someone is yelled to be better and can only connect to that after the final blow is a good arc. They know where they are going. We just need bear to take us there

I totally disagree about the Faks having too much screen time. There is no such thing as too much Fak and I'm only partially joking when I say that. Every moment they are on screen is comedy gold and they are always captivating and their chemistry with each other and every other character is just always on point and real. They always bring a smile to my face when they pop in.

I personally enjoyed how the show decided to take a step back from the huge intense moment that was the finale of Season 2. Being able to tap into the mind of Carmy a little more and focus on some of the other characters felt raw to me. I think the show just really wanted to express how sometimes stuff just doesn't get resolved right away, things take time, life takes time... and I think these episodes helped execute that premise. I think the show needed a season like this one, and they were working on this season and Season 4 back-to-back, so hopefully, it won't be long now. In conclusion, I don’t think the series itself lost steam... it just decided to cool down

The dialogue in this season felt off to me and it was boring. I also didn’t like how they focused so much on Claire. She is a boring character. Episode 8 was also the worst episode in the season. The only episode I really liked this season was episode 6 with Tina. It really explained why she acted the way she did in season 1.

Honestly peoples reaction to this season reminds me of how artic monkeys fans were pissed that their album after AM wasnt EXACTLY like AM lol. Its ridiculous that people cant open their minds to different things or even terrible things. Life goes to shit sometimes, theres not always progress being made. Also, whats with the Ayo hate? Shes a hilarious, creative, beautiful person. Shes my favorite part of this series and i just want her character to succeed. Its weird how people are so quick to say that claire and carmy are meant to be and have such great chemistry with each other whenever i got none of that from watching them. Their conversations always sounded like a bunch of nothing. Also carmy couldve gotten the best aspect of his relationship with Claire (literally just someone who listens) by going to therapy. Btw Sydney and carmy have actual passions and similar goals to one another, most of the time they are on the same page (except now bc carmy's losing it a bit lol) i think no matter what their relationship is, they are soulmates. Though before any sort of romance, he needs to work on himself first, by talking to a therapist. Idk i just wanted to write out my thoughts so i can stop angrily commenting on other peoples shit its rlly embarrassing lmao

I agree with you on most things except that final episode. I really liked it, maybe top three of the season? I knew who most of the chefs were and although I thought their stories went on for a little long, I thought the fact that Syd was interacting with them whereas Carmy wasn't, felt telling. Especially when they were talking about what asshole bosses they had, and Carmy was looking at his asshole boss across the table, but Sydney was ltierally sitting next to hers. I don't think Carmy has like fully broken Syd like his NY chef broke him, but her throwing up after service last season and her panic attack in the final moments of the season shows how much Syd is breaking down just like Carmy was.

personally, i thought that while it definitely pales in comparison to the first two seasons, it was still a good season. i understand the criticisms many people have with how unfocused and slow this season feels, but i think it still does enough to push things forward. i agree with your take on the faks. while i know they’re supposed to be comic reliefs and they have good moments, i think they had too much screentime compared to other characters. also, i agree completely with the marcus take. i thought he’d be a main standout character this season and all the pieces were there, but there wasn’t enough time spent with him and his growth. similar to you, i never really think much about claire. like, she’s just… there, which is problematic since she, in essence, is supposed to be important to carmy’s story. the tina episode is my favorite and really solidifies her as one of my top favorite characters in the show. ice chips was a good episode, too. however, i disagree with your take on the finale. personally, i really enjoyed it and didn’t mind the chefs talking about their experiences at the table. i think it does help push the plot in the sense that these testimonials are what syd has to think about for her career and legacy and while the chefs are all having a fun time reminiscing and chatting about how important the industry is, carmy’s so caught up in his trauma from chef david and worrying he’s becoming the same person (which is very scary to see because it parallels his relationship with syd). plus, i liked the party at the end with everyone making waffles and doing salt bae poses. it also feels like andrea terry’s restaurant is what carmy wants the bear to be like, yk? the organization and high tempo feel done right with a legacy and head chef (terry) to be respected. it’s the final version of the bear, assuming carmy gets his shit together and doesn’t self-implode. to wrap things up, cause atp, i’m just yapping, i think there’s still some merit to this season and is something that’ll grow on people in time. it’s not perfect and i know why it isn’t a hit for everyone, but even at its weakest, it still is a great piece of television, imo, and sets season 4 to be its best season.

I saw people shipping Syd and Luca after one conversation lol. Ayo just has great chemistry with everyone. I personally don't see Sydcarm working as a ship because while they push each other to be better professionally, they're not on the same page emotionally. He's also her boss/mentor and that's kind of an uncomfortable dynamic. I can never see them wanting to go past that, unless there's a time skip where they're both in their own respective restaurants and in a better place mentally. Besides, Syd doesn't even seem interested being in a relationship right now (and who knows maybe it's not something she wants in general), so it's hard to see where it's going.

not everything has to move the plot, "unnecessary" scenes are still necessary; i also do not get the hate for claire? how long was her screentime this season? claire was one of the good things in carmy's childhood, and one thing about carmy is his inability to let go of the past, he's being haunted by the past. so you just can't say that claire is a bad character, so what if she is basic, some people irl are basic, not every character has to be likeable for the audience, the characters in the show each have their own personalities and motives, the bear did not lose its magic, that conversation should be made if they fumble next season.

I did a full-Series rewatch and woke up before work so I could binge Season 3 and when it was over I was genuinely so confused. Stylistically, I liked the Episode with very little dialogue, I liked the argument Episode, but none of the other Episodes had anything HAPPENINGGG I’m so devastated. And I’m sorry but the Labor/Birth Episode did not interest me at all. Just.. damn. I need to state my credentials at the outset before I get to my opinion: I’m a black woman, married to a white man, who’s dated lots of white folks. I want nothing more from this show than for Sid and Carmy’s relationship to remain platonic. I think it’s a cliche for two opposite gender leads to end up together. Furthermore, their relationship to me reads as a deep, caring, professional relationship among two highly ambitious colleagues. I don’t see any romantic undertones in their interactions. If anything, Sid seems to have googly eyes for Marcus. I think folks assume that race is the issue, but it’s much deeper than that. They have a platonic friendship and a professional relationship that both challenges and rewards them. Neither the characters nor the show would gain anything from their relationship changing. There’s no need to add romance to every cis gender opposite sex pairing.

I am a black girl and I personally hope Syd and Carmy do not get together bc I'm tired of the "quirky awesome POC girl has unrequited crush on white boy who has her in the friendzone". The POC girl always just serves as a tool to make the white guy better and I feel like Hollywood has this fascination with swirl love stories when monoracial relationships deserve just as much representation. Especially if it's going to be written by white writers, I feel like they are re-emphasizing that being attached to whiteness is the goal. It's not bad to be in an interracial relationship, but I just think a same race love story would be just as good a storyline to represent on television. Or pairing her up with a man who likes her right away and doesn't see her as a friend for three seasons first (if a slow burn is indeed what they are doing). I think it's fine to just have them be really good friends. I'd rather watch her get her own independent love story.

I’m a black woman & it’s weird because I feel the opposite. If anything, I felt like Carmy may have had underlying feelings for Sydney from the beginning & it was unrequited on her end. Until this season, where it seemed like they may both have underlying feelings, although Carmy was being a real jerk to her. I don’t care whether or not they get together, and I hope that Carmy heals on his own. It seems like he is starting to, considering the fact that he confronted his abusive ex-EC at the end of this season. Hopefully we’ll see that continue with him dealing with Claire & his mom. I will say that Sydney & Luca seem to have instant chemistry, but I also personally don’t mind slow burns & if it was written & developed well, I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Sydney & Carmy get together, even after this season. Yeah, I agree, a monoracial relationship would be just as good to portray, but Sydney & turned Marcus down & doesn’t seem to be into him that way, & Marcus seems to be grieving his mom and isn’t even focused on a relationship at this point, he’s locked in towards getting a star for his mom, so I don’t see them getting together atp. Idk, I know that most of us would like to see black people be either one another, and in real life we mostly are anyway, but I just don’t care who she ends up with in terms of race/ethnicity, as long as they will treat her right.

Yes, the bear has lost its bite I just binged watched season three on the Disney+ season 3 episode 1 One was the best. It had a lot of spark and magic and it was really cool when they got to film with the other chefs from the French laundry. It was really really interesting when Carmen got to meet and work with them high profile chefs like Daniel Bullard I tried to get through episode three I tried and I did it episode four episode five 5️⃣ God I just went on and on and on and on overrated show over, repetitive writing is terrible so there are snippets of hope in these episodes like the last episode was interesting. Olivia Coleman is really a bright star in this show. nothing really happened in the show. It was very dull and yeah that’s my review not worth it. I don’t think they should do a season four if they can’t make season three like season one like season two thanks for watching.

I think people are just finally realizing the show isnt that great. Im sorry, but its aways lacked in plot and direction. Honestly thats what i appreciated the most about season 1. It just throws you and lets you look around for yourself. However, i think people were too enamored by the artsy b roll and yelling to realize that its just a food processor of a show without much depth. This is the first season without nearly as much yelling and jump cuts so im not surprised the illusion is starting to fade. Its a fun show, but the praise it has gotten is so out of proportion. People have compared it to breaking bad and the like which is insane. I expect 4 to continue this pace. You can only get so far with loud jump cuts and b roll before you realize “what am i looking at”. This show is the directorial version of “over acting”.

If they marketed it as Season 3:Part 1 it would have sat better, but as a complete season within itself despite a few standout episodes, it was a frustrating season overall due to the lack of resolution/progression of several storylines. I really don't understand why they keep trying to push the character of Claire on us, her character is one dimensional and reeks of "manic pixe girl" but maybe it's intentional, or so I use to think. In season 3 it was just cringe to hear "Clair bear" being thrown around all the time. I think the anecdote about her treating a patient could have also served as providing insight into her world and its nuances but it did not land well. Oh my and not to mention the scene at the hospital. Homegirl out here trying to save lives and the Faks going over to talk about Carmy at the hospital just diminishes her character even further. At that point it felt as she had literally transformed into a prop for a failing plotline. I was hoping they would expand on the dynamic of Sydney and Carmy because it comes through as more authentic, but it feels like they toned it down. Would love to know others thoughts on this.

I don't know why I feel so alone in wanting a show where a chef has this personal mission to make a Michelin 5 star restaurant. Is it such a bad thing? Then The Bear kind of tried for that but got so lost in all these characters lives and stuff. You could easily make a 7 season show out of this concept why does it need to be so hard? Maybe I just want traditional TV too much. Or some heroic narrative. I don't mind if the characters suffer greatly, you can give any kind of struggle, overall, the mission stays relevant! Why can't all the characters just want the glory of this task, they can just write them as all swept away by Carmy's genius and taking part in this mission together as a team. Season 3 will be a will they/won't they some big drama and then... YES. Michelin Star. Now comes the tribulations of staying at a high level. Season 5 is Carmy becomes Celebrity Chef. Season 6 A New Carmy tries to replace Carmy, can they find common ground? Season 7, a 55 year old Carmy goes through his life and finally succumbs to self harm thoughts or maybe he gets into some crazy new business... or whatever. My point is that they do NOT need filler seasons! Why do they need filler??? They can easily make a three season show very tight, still leave some space for character growth, give people what they want and exciting and heroic and fun. I just feel like "fun" is a dirty word in Hollywood. Always need "subversion" anyway that is my rant. Thanks for the review Kayla I really loved it!

At the end of season 2, I realized that I didn't like Carmy and I wouldn't mind if he never showed up again. I haven't watched the third season yet because it's still not available in my country, but this is the second review I see referring to it as uncooked and flavorless: (

You read my mind! This season was filled with continuous yelling - especially from the multiple Faks bros (2 too many Faks!) & then Richie’s. Grow up people! (Meaning the WRITERS). I was also very irritated by some of the music - ie Carm’s in the cooler, thinking of calling Claire, & the incessant music when there should be peace. And I hated the “to be continued” ending - so now we have to wait 2 years to see if Sydney makes the right move? Sheesh! BTW, I agree that Claire is dull, no obvious connection with Carm ….. again, a lot if this is the writer’s fault.

i understood what they were doing with carmy but its information we've known before the core cast is just not as focused , i wished we couldve had fully fleshed out episodes like napkins with richie, ebra ,marcus or gary where they say how they got to the beef and how much a community it build vs now and how cold it is compared to mikey's restaurant, gary is said to have a wine thing going we dont see any of this and he's stuck talking to another fak💀, have marcus and sydney fight back more from carmen's insane ideas or tension about them leaving for better opportunities with luca's character or something he's a character weve seen in s2 who interacted with marcus greatly he could've been used more , i liked chips as an episode but in general this season felt so incomplete in a bad sense even when we know there's a part 2 it was just not a good season and my god they need to stop with the celeb cameos i was losing my mind with those ted talk celeb chef dialogues

Still watching the season, but I understand the frustration. The acting is still stellar, the camerawork is interesting, and I think everything is pretty intentional (don't really care about whether or not it's a drama or a comedy). But for a show with so much character depth, there's no progress or focus, which is a fair expectation for viewers to have. I also don't want a Sydney/Carmy romance; it's just jumping the shark, and I think there are more creative places to take a man/woman relationship like this than to just have them have fall in love.

My thoughts: The pacing was really off this season. Just off. As one of the comments said on here, it’s very much a setup season (hence the “to be continued”), and I felt unsatisfied in the way I did with Across The Spiderverse, but even more so. Season 2 has such good character development. I love the fork episode, I love the soundtrack, and I love the scene with Carmie in the fridge just talking. This season didn’t have any of that emotion. It also made the world that these people live in, way too insular. Yes , Carmie and Richie (and Marcus to an extent) have connections to Ever, but Ever didn’t need to be such a big part of the season. Terry’s retirement was so out of place too. I know of Thomas Keller and I loved his scene with Carmie, it felt unscripted. I don’t mind Claire. The way I see it, we see her from the perspective of Carmie/Richie- she’s that gorgeous smart kind girl from that other family, so she doesn’t have much to her. That said, she was forced to be such a part of this season whereas in reality she shouldn’t have been in it and it should have been just another fuckup for Carmie. Oliver Platt’s character (I forgot his name) was overly douchey in this season. Considering he was fine with the kids being all drugged up in the previous season , his weirdness about money (which he’d make all back if the restaurant failed) seemed just odd. John Cena completely took me out of the show and I didn’t like it. Way too excessive at that point. I hope Richie and Jess get together. I needed more emotional moments. The last episode was just jarringly awkward and bad paced. Will Poulters character had some awkward moments with people that I then realised were supposed to be funny moments and..yeah. In my theoretical rewrite of this season there’d be Carmie hugely relapsing and rediscovering his love for cooking , no Claire (until S4), Ayo’s character leaving in maybe episode 4 after she takes the offer, Richie and Jess starting a relationship, Tina stepping up to Ayo’s role, but also them all finding a middle ground between Michelin stars (and how unimportant they actually are), and returning to Mikey’s old style of cooking. A good fusion that isn’t focussed on stars , but satisfaction. Then Carmie returning and truly reconciling with Richie. I miss the emotion and drama in the show and character growth. I didn’t hate this season I just don’t care for it. The show deserves better.

PS Am I the only one who doesn’t want Carmie and Sydney to get together? She’s way too good for him. She should date Marcus. Richie should date Jess. Carmie should see a trauma therapist for 5 years, quit being a chef and start carving wooden boats or something like that, whilst staying single. 😅

its still very good just not as much content and story progression so just be patient and it will pay off in season 4, there still are a lot of good episode in season 4 like the birthing, tina's past and the last dinner in Ever.
