The problem is that there are no benefits to the individual player who pays that $5. It just gives you more opportunities to spend more money. ( at a discount ) Pdga has no presence in our mostly minority community.

One MAJOR thing the PDGA does that people often forget, they take care of insurance for sanctioned events. A lot of courses and parks require a certificate of insurance to allow events and tournaments. Someone gets hurt at an unsanctioned event? The TD gets sued. Someone gets hurt at a sanctioned event? That's on the PDGA.

That's one thing that got me out of playing tournaments was the price increase it was like 25 to $35 for MA3 now you're looking at like 40 to 50. I'm sorry I don't want a player's pack I don't need any other disc I don't want a goodie bag for playing a tournament. Let's lower the price get more people involved.

The point about companies/pros not using their stars to brand beginner sets is something I've been baffled by since I bought my Innova starter pack back when McBeth was dominating and it wasn't branded in any way. So its good to hear that maybe Disccraft has finally figured this out. How much extra money would Innova have made during the Bubble if their beginner sets were branded with Big Jerm and Sexton? It seems unlikely that the answer is "nothing," and there is no downside, yet they don't do it. The reluctance from companies/players to put their Stars names on, slow discs, understable discs, and even putting putters, is similarly confusing. I'm nowhere even close to a disc expert but it feels like a lot players, almost every MPO player but even a lot of FPO players, especially the top players, have signature discs are either drivers or overstable approach discs that are good discs for them and the small percentage of people who have pro caliber arms, but they aren't discs that the average player will ever bag because it is a useful disc for them. They rely almost entirely on a persons fandom or delusion to make sales. Why not put your name on a disc that is going to be a useable disc for the largest potential market? I'll just use Ohn Scoggins as an example. How does she not have a signature putter? Its actually stupid. She's been the best putter in FPO for a couple years now at minimum, but her disc is a Halo Champion Destroyer. I get it. Ohn throws destroyers all the time. But this makes zero sense to me from the perspective of Innova. Calvin is going to absorb a huge portion of the Tour Series signature Destroyer sales that are happening and we have at least 2 other players in addition to Ohn with destroyers, and a couple with wraiths and a tern and a boss and the T-birds and Thunderbirds. All of these discs filling the same uselessly overstable slot for a lot of players out there. You have the best putter in the world on your roster, give her a signature putter. This isn't rocket science.

Had i known the DGPT was going to change their pricing and offers i wouldn't of ever gotten a PDGA membership this year. I can still play all the tournaments, you just pay an extra $10 fee but now entry fees are more expensive and the PDGA has no control over that and most of that money doesn't even go to the course, just mpo payout and TD, so what good is the PDGA for most local tournaments now other than having a website for tournaments near you. That needs to change fast I think because charging $75 or more to play 2 rounds in 1 day from ma2 and up is ridiculous especially if you arent getting any of that money in return for a top 3 finish unless its some ma1 and mpo.

The people that are watching disc golf are the same people that play disc golf. In my opinion, most people watch only the highlights or the content after they get home from playing a round or two during the weekend. I have heard pros say similar things; they are too busy to watch due to time constraints, traveling, playing, and living. We can listen to podcasts at work and while we are playing. We can watch highlights later, but live streams are different for this sport compared to others. Some other ideas would be to "highlight engagement post-play," "expand audiences beyond players," "adapt content for different platforms," "create content for downtime," and, all in all, "foster a balanced viewing experience for content consumers".

The fact that they say paige is better then kristan is bizarre and when trevor said age doesnt matter actually made me pissed off lol like L take. Kristan is younger and it does matter lol. Kristan is just better. The courses got harder paige has stayed the same or maybe got slightly better but the fpo field as a whole is better. Kristan is playing harder courses and better players then paige was when she was winning. Its common sense

Our area has peaked on the recreational side. On the competitive side, you have to sign up early for tournaments. While most new people do not know rules, traditions, and etiquette, there have been lots of opportunities for teaching new players. ( since things shut down ) Also there is a new course going up every few weeks. Maybe people are more spread out. New courses always get played because they are new.

For me it’s more about the discount for DGN. The pdga membership pays for itself in that discount. I also play about 4-5 sanctioned tournaments per year so I do get that value also.
@joelwashere012
@joelwashere012 Ай бұрын
You also have to think most TDs will just find a way to make most tournaments B-tiers or higher to guarantee you have a membership, thinning the herd isn’t a good thing for the sport, if you alienate a lot of the lower amateur players from even getting to play without a PDGA membership you’re forcing the sport backwards in a negative way, although with the tier increases the player packs have to be equally worth the price of admission which normally is what people care about normally. Most amateur players I have seen are happy as long as the money put in returns in good ways, if that means free apparel, plastic, accessories etc, then they win
@Grannyknockers
@Grannyknockers Ай бұрын
@@joelwashere012 Best way I can think of thinning the herd is to make membership fees so high that returning members just decide it's no longer worth it. And at least from what I see locally and read online, it sure sounds like there are a whole lot of us out there who love disc golf but didn't renew cause we don't care to pay $60 for a bunch of crap we don't want. Make the initial sign up have an obligatory goodie pack, but give returning members an option to just pay the member dues and forego the gyro crap disc, the magazines, etc if they don't want it. I have to think with everybody I talk to that they are leaving some money on the table. Sure they made an extra $10 on signup with the goodie pack, but it comes at the cost of getting $0 from said person the next season.

I’ve noticed that recently the disc reseller market has fallen way off. Premium plastic used discs that just a few months ago (and for a few years) were selling quickly on the marketplace for around $15 shipped are now lucky to get $10-$12 shipped. And folks are dumping a lot of new discs for that same $15 or even less. It’s as if folks invested in new disc “inventory” with the expectation of prices perpetually rising, and now they can’t even sell them for what I pay at the local shop. Is that the sign of the bubble bursting? Can’t say.

If disc golf as a sport was to collapse and no one could play anymore, then I could understand the "G.O.A.T." debate.

Covid bubble has burst, and DGPT/PDGA has overvalued their worth, blown a major decision about a dude playing in the FPO, and the sport is regressing now. I can't say I'm mad. There were too many chuckleheads showing up at the course.

great golf course is $100 a round minimum. Great disc golf course $10-15? Any backpack will work as a bag. Cheap discs everywhere. Whats the entry price for ball golf, or hockey?

Don't want to speak for Paige, but ever since she met her partner and got married, her game dropped off. Maybe she just has different priorities at this stage of her life. I don't see the same intensity in her game, and maybe if Kristen Tattar was playing back in Paige's prime, this wouldn't be a debate at all.

I more so look at 2021 Worlds. She was in the drivers seat, then hole 18 happened, ever since that last putt she has never been the same Paige we knew, and with the added injury she previously had it hasn’t helped her once, her desire and drive is definitely burning out, can she snap out of it? That’s up to her and her alone if she still wants it like she use to

@@joelwashere012I agree. It goes to my original point that she lost her intensity, and in 2021 she was playing not to lose.

if ricky makes 1 mil a year, simon 1 mil a year, you think calvin is getting paid right by innova? Or you think calvin is too soft to say anything and he's getting taken advantage of? If rick simon and paul have gotten 1 mil a year, and kona panis got 125k a year along with tattar, then calvin should be getting atleast 400k a year if ricky gets 1 mil. if you thtink aboutt it calvin should get 650k a year if ricky gets 1 mil. BUT i feel this is not happening, and calvin may be getting something as small as 180-250k. he has to get smart and get that ricky kind of money

Brodie, Paige Pierce and Paul McBeth are both CLEARLY worse at disc golf than they used to be. With that being said, Tattar is still clearly better now than Paige ever was. Tattar is the BEST there has ever been, but GREATNESS needs sustainability, so Paige is still the greatest. Also, Trevor nailed it on the head. Your prime does not have to be tied to your age.

the success of a sport is circular. a sport gains an audience, the sport acquires sponsors to sustain, then continues to grow an audience, which then grows the sponsorship money, which elevates the product, which elevates the viewership, which elevates the sponsor money, and it goes round and around as it grows. a sport grows as it's viewing product grows. look at any sport, when more people start watching, more money floods in, and the sport grows. THERE'S A FEW ISSUES GOING ON. One of the main issues is Ian Anderson. Ian Anderson is a commentator who cannot commentate. He makes constant mistakes on the coverage, about one every 2 minutes you'll hear Ian say "oop correction" or "oop excuse me". I'm a MASSIVE disc golf fan, but watching Ian Anderson pushed me off DGN. If DGN does not grow, sport growth will be very very slow. Ian also has a very lame voice, and a very lame look, it's horrendous to have him on main live feed coverage. Another terrible factor of DGN is their cuts. DGN will have an amazing angle from green to tee, where they are zoomed in all the way on the pad, looking up from the green for an amazing view, then they cut to behind the player, then cut back again to the green shot. cutting mid flight needs to happen way way way less. The production, the cutting mid flight, the camera work is very amateur and needs a lot of work. PDGA needs to understand, disc golf will rescind to what it was pre covid if the viewership fizzles out and does not grow. When viewership goes down, awareness goes down, momentum goes down, sport loses sponsorship money, pros lose interest, everything declines if viewership does not grow. Ian Anderson must be fired from commentary, production needs to get way better no more mid flight cuts.

plain and simple, is Ian Anderson the best possible face and voice of disc golf? absolutely not, he wouldn't be in my top 30 picks of commentary, so why is he commentating? Can they not find literally anyone so they have to go with Ian? by definition he's horrible at his job. you hear ian make a commentary mistake and says "excuse me" or "correction" every 1-3 minutes. He has a weak weak voice, he's a guy who should be behind a camera, certainly never in front, and never speaking. Ian Anderson's commentary is one of the all time reasons this sport's product will not grow, who the hell wants to watch and listen to Ian Anderson? I mean seriously. we need brian and big jerm, philo here and there, doss and sexton are fine, ian anderson must be moved to a new role, he will singlehandedly keep this sport in the shadows
