Thanks Dave for the ride out, it was as usual entertaining and informative. My first motorcycle gear was a pair of wellingtons and white sailor socks plus army combat trousers and jacket from the Army and Navy surplus store. My bike was a BSA 250 side valve C10 which I pushed for miles😂🏍. Still riding at 81. Regards from North Yorkshire.

Hi Jeff, I hope I'm still riding at 81, it must be the bike thats keeping you young! I loved the Army & Navy store, you could spend a good couple of hours just looking at all the stuff in there. Shows that we should have got out more lol. I'm planning the go to North Yorkshire this Sunday to Helmsley to do a couple of new videos. has to be a pork pie from Hunters in the market place. Really enjoying these videos Dave, as a fellow Yorkshire man (boy) it’s amazing to see all these routes that are so close by to me, I only have my CBT but I’m desperate to get my license done and get a 350 classic like your bike! I’m 25 so I can do the DAS but I don’t think Im after something sporty or too powerful and the Enfields seem like a great choice. The engine does sound amazing! Love hearing your stories as you cruise around, cheers!

Hi Jack, thanks for watching the channel. When you pass your test I feel sure the classic 350 will be a great bike for you. I taught bike riding for well over 40 years and always said the right bike is the one you like and feel happy riding. Don't be pressured into something you don't want, if you do you won't want to ride it. Which school are you doing your test with? Keep me posted how it goes, and when you pass and get your bike let me know, we can have a ride out and the coffee and bacon butty are on me. Ride safe, Dave

Your story about hot water bottles inside your jacket makes me think of electric vests I have had. For years,I had a Tourmaster vest, and it was truly wonderful, but eventually it died. It seems they have quit making them,(or at least quit selling them here in Canada). I did find another brand, which I can't remember right now, and it works quite well, but not as well as the Tourmaster. These things can lower the tolerable temperature by a good 10 or 15 degrees. Well worth the investment.

Another fine video... Thanks for the ride! I used to carry a couple black plastic trash bags in case it rained. I'd cut a hole in the bottom of the bag for my head, and two holes for my arms. I'd wear this under my leather jacket if it began to rain. I was younger then, and wet arms and legs I could handle if my torso was warm and dry.

Very nice ! I do miss a good old UK style biker café over here, so ENVIOUS ! Motorcycle gear has come on a long way. Looking through my old photos, I always used normal clothes ( i.e. jackets and trousers ), which I deemed to be more abrasion resistant than the others. That was as far as it went. The only dedicated biking gear was the helmet and some gloves. When it rained you got soaked, when it was cold you froze. Happy days ! Cheers, ER

I do miss bacon or sausage rolls/sandwiches and the occasional “belly buster breakfast” but I am slowly getting to appreciate tapas ( although they’re not as good obviously😉 ). Apart from anything else, a nearby greasy spoon was always a decent riding destination if you had no better idea. Over here I have to get a lot more creative with my route planning, probably as you do too ! Enjoy France, I hear they do a nice baguette or two in that neck of the woods, with a vin rouge to wash it down. Doesn’t sound too bad to me 🤪 Cheers buddy, ER

@@economicalrides Have rode down to Almeria (Mojacar) many many times over the last 40 years, enjoy riding rural Spain very much. Having said that, last year in June it hit 39/40c in Mojacar and it was not til I hit the pyrenees on my way back home that the temperature dropped back down to 30 ish, to be honest the trip on my xmax Yamaha due to the heat became an endurance. Rode my RE classic 500 down to Mojacar in 2018/19 greats trips in reasonable temps. Do miss the creasy spoons but the French rural roads do make up for it. When riding out, just usually take a picnic. Ride safe.

@@Vanrides. Oh nice one Van rides. I'm quite often in or near Mojacar, it's about an hour and a quarter from where I live. If you are ever in the area again, let me know, maybe we can meet up somewhere for a little ride ! Most of the roads on my channel are within an hour of Mojacar. Ahhh 39-40C sounds like just the ticket right now, bring it on 😎 You are right. In one of my videos last year I took Buddy in for his 12 month service to Almeria towards the end of June and in that video you can see the digital billboards in Almeria displaying 39C and 40C as I ride through the city. That must have been exactly when you were here. I'm so fed up with this winter that I have promised myself never again to complain about the heat in the summer ! Take care and fingers crossed we get some nice but not too hot weather for riding this year ! Cheers Van rides, ER

That bridge in Selby! I was coming back one evening on my Moto Guzzi Monza, from York where I’d been to attend an Italian Motorcycle Owners meeting. I’d let someone else have a go on my bike. Coming back it suddenly occurred to me how much fuel had he used and where could i fill up? The bridge was open on the way to York but closed for work when I came back. 😱 Not enough fuel to turn round. What could I do? The blokes repairing the bridge agreed to put planks across where they’d taken the bridge up if I wanted to try it! 😱 Was only a few feet but still a worry when I pushed my bike over, looking down at the river! 😂😂
