around 11:55 .. As a Persian blooded girl.. I was raised with a very definite belief indoctrinated into me that Persians are most certainly not Arab. We are Persians. I'm not sure if this is some elitist thing i was told b/c my family identify themselves very proudly as Persians.. not even Iranian anymore. Could be b/c they escaped Iran from when the Ayatollah came in, and due to their horrible experiences during that time, they don't care for the country, but are very elitist about being of Persian blood.. idk, it's all wacky, i guess. . But that's how i was raised and told when born later on... sounds frivolous, but its kinda identity breaking for me b/c how much that identity has been beaten into my head. Persians are not Arabs. idk..

Iranians are not considered "arab" no. In terms of DNA, they are not arabic, they are mostly Persian (but other ethnicities exists in Iran aswell, which is why they change the name of the country from Persia to Iran, to encompasse all the ethnicities). However, some people identify as "arab" even though they dont have that much arabic DNA. The "pan-arabism" movement started in the 1800s and grew strong by the 1900s. "Pan-arabism" is basically an ideology or philosophy that says that all arabic speaking peoples are arabs with or without blood relations. This has caused the term "arab" to be quite diffuse, it means different things to different people. But since Iranians dont speak arabic, i have never seen anyone claim they are arabs. And as a westerner this is quite strange since we generally dont think of ethnicities in terms of languages. A person who has english as their first language is not necessarily an "englishman". I would say an arabic speaking berber is a berber and not an arab, but many of them identify as arabs and not berbers, so who am i to say they are wrong, i guess?

Iranian is what Persians have always called themselves. Persian is a Greek word obviously.

@@jasonmain6398 this isn't exactly true.. the persian empire came long before the existence of the country of Iran. The way I always came to understand my parents mindset distinguishing the two was that Iranian refers to the nationality of people living in Iran, whilst Persian refers to the ethnicity and cultural heritage. There still are many Persians who live in neighbouring countries like India, for example, who speak Farsi, are of my blood, and even share similar features to me, compared to darker skinned Indians.. however, they are technically Indian by nationality.

@@benross9174 i'll have to look a bit more into the history bc i always just accepted being ethnically persian as it's own sole thing, coming from our ancestral lineage from the age of the Persian Empire. There's also also a very cultural habit we have where i've always heard of jokes made about "how do you tell the difference between a persian and an arab".. it's a very widespread meme template with a ton of diff answers. I'll think about sending a little email if i find proper evidence besides "just what i was always told by everyone".. lol 💙
