All I can speak for is my state, but you don't get your kids taken from you for being poor. My sister is a foster parent, most kids that get taken from their bio parents end up back with the biological parents after a few weeks/months. You have to be seriously derelict to permanently lose your kids. The state does everything it can to return kids to their biological parents. As far as for "being poor"? That's hogwash. Let's see, the past few kids my sister had... 2 year old that was involved in a serious car accident, wasn't in a car seat, mom was intoxicated. Was only taken into foster care for a few weeks. Family of 4 kids, oldest daughter says mom pointed a gun at her for misbehaving, these kids were only with my sister a couple weeks before returning home. Daughter might have been lying, but mom had violent record and it's better to be safe than sorry when a 14 year old calls 911 saying her mom is pointing a gun at her. A 6 year old who's parents were physically abusive. He wet himself because my sister's dog jumped on the couch and his biological dad shot their dog for doing the same thing. In the 10 or so cases she's had every single one was blatantly dangerous and abusive. And every single one gave ample opportunity to have their kids returned. Her only permanent adoptions were children who's parents literally abandoned them after they were taken. Like didn't even show to single court date and wouldn't respond to their case worker for 18+ months.

A bit later that night, Jennifer showed up and barged into her neighbors house without permission or anything and began going through the house looking for Hannah who she found huddled in a corner, the neighbor went to look because she noticed Jennifer was making Hannah more agitated, she said Jennifer was arguing with Hannah and making it seem like Hannah was upset over a fight with one of her brothers, neighbor then left Jennifer and Hannah alone in the room until they came out and left together... everyone (except for the grandpa that called 911) failed those kids. i can not imagine how helpless and betrayed hannah mustve felt when the neighbors let her go back with that crazy witch. i feel like crying imagining it. she legit risked it all and no one cared, like she meant nothing to anyione, she probably cried herself to sleep so many times. they tried to get help and were left to die. that was their whole life, just sadness and pain. they wont get another chance to live, thats it, forever. hurts my soul. i unironically hope it haunts those neighbors.

My heart breaks every time I think about this case.. and the fact that money was a motivator in adopting those children. Jesus Christ. Can we talk about how we take children away from families who can't afford to care for them, send them to another family, and then give THAT family money to take care of the child they were just took in their care. If we gave that money to the first family (assuming there were no other signs of abuse or neglect and lack of finances were the main/sole reason for the child being taken), they wouldn't have gotten their kid taken away in the first place.

The way child abuse is treated in this country (abuse in general, too, but talking specifically child abuse) is absolutely awful. All child protective services are under funded, under staffed, under trained, and under supervised. We need a massive over haul of these systems and treat child abuse seriously, and form of it. It’s not a joke to be laughed off as “I turned out fine” or “kids these days need a whippen”, it’s disgusting abuse and these services need more resources. Part of why cps is bad as chat was pointing out tirelessly is the over worked and underpaid staff, and the lack of power they have. And how little power minors have to report abuse. I wonder what was going on with the parents, too. Mental health issues, drug, and alcohol abuse could’ve played a role in this as well. And we can’t ignore that and just say they were evil because that closes the conversation on ways to prevent people from becoming abusive parents.

In my experience with police officers, there are typically two types. Cowards and heroes. Unfortunately, the latter are too few and far between. Anecdote: someone stole my college books and sold them back to the school-bookstore. I told the store which books were taken and to see if they could match them with any that were sold back that day. There was one person on their records, but they wouldn’t give me the name. I got a detective to come out and collect the name and to arrest that thief. The detective said “while it’s likely, it’s not enough to make an arrest.” Yes it was and they knew it, they were just too COWARDLY to actually do their job.
@65firered3 жыл бұрын
In the last two years, most of the heroes quit and those who remain are losing hope. Unfortunately, the damage has already been done and there likely won't be a way to solve the numerous problems with the system without ultimately making it worse for quite some time. It can be best summarized as "Why stay police officer when the state, the government, the people, your peers, and you hate the police? When no matter what you do nothing will change and you could be thrown under the bus by any of them and you don't even get paid enough to support your family?"

You’ve missed a point pretty hard. It’s easy to take kids from biological parents. It’s hard to take them away from fosters because they view it differently.
@maisybee20914 ай бұрын
Only 15.59 minutes in and i think devonté was vying for parent love abd approval so would go up and hug people so his parents got their heartwarming instagram pic. Children seek for approval from their parents because its like survival, and they subconsciously find ways to do it when they discover what makes their parents happy and what doesnt.
@lestatsluv3173 жыл бұрын
Had this couple been poor or black or brown, CPS would have taken those kids the moment one of them pled guilty to assault against one of the children. (And why the hell was it just an assault charge? Where was the child abuse charge? The domestic violence charge? The neglect charge for starving the kids? And why was she only charged with one count of anything when multiple children reported the abuse and starvation? One fucking assault charge?) But because they were upper middle class white women they were allowed to severely abuse and neglect these kids until they murdered them. The way things stand with our CPS and foster care system right now, it's like a disgusting sick joke. They take kids when they shouldn't and they place them with people who are often psychopathic abusers and every single time you hear a horror story about kids suffering abuse at the hands of a foster parent, it is ALWAYS revealed that CPS had multiple chances to do something and they did nothing, either until there are years of reports of severe abuse and neglect or one of the kids ends up dead. It's absolutely twisted. And unfortunately the bar is much higher for foster parents or adopted parents than biological parents when it comes to CPS taking kids away. It's another system in America where people protect their own. Since foster parents are tied in with CPS, they are far less likely to acknowledge obvious signs of abuse and neglect and actually take the children. And white lady tears only work if the white woman has money. I promise you, cops in poor neighborhoods don't give a fuck about your tears no matter who you are. But, man, if a white woman has money? She's good to go.
