My theory on why they are using the old body is because they have the paint scheme already prepared for that body. Like how the kamino clone paint scheme existed to use on the mace trooper. No tweaking how the factory paints the new parts. It’s LAZY but I bet that is their excuse. Also they didn’t even give the 212th both blasters. I was pretty upset about this set :( clones of the republic is letting me down. It should be easy to make this sub line work. They also need to produce more or these packs. The mace and gree packs and going for a lot on eBay and they sell out overall so fast and never get restocked once they are gone. Now I’m afraid we won’t get a 2023 body 212th clone upgrade anytime soon now. Great video guys!

That is a pretty great theory! Another potential explanation I've heard is the possible limited amount of tools. So when they're releasing a whole bunch of clones at once, there isn't a 2023 tool available. However, they've done a 2-pack on the 2023 body so...idk. Thanks for watching! -Justin

I really like the idea of doubling up either a trooper or a Jedi or a similar type of character and what they can do is put a more desirable character with a less desirable or less known character. That’s how we get a Depa Billaba or Jocasta Nu or just pair up the Jedi with his clone commander. It truly is frustrating when it is a layup. It seems obvious to do just like I said, the Jedi, his clone commander, and then as potential two packs down the line members of that particular clone battalion from each of the Jedi and clone commanders regiment or whatever the hell they call it. It’s how we get Bail Organa and Mas Ameda.

I'm guessing the Clones of the Republic line is designed to be a Jedi with a clone from their relevant legion, so no army builder packs under this subline. But hopefully we'll get a ROTS 212th Clone on the 2023 body, in a pack with a 212th Airbourne trooper, as part of the ROTS anniversary stuff. On the plus side, given this Clone of the Republic pack is based on the 212th, it probably means that Disney are going to be releasing a 212th Clone helmet.

I cancelled the Tartakovsky Obi-Wan I had on preorder with BBTS as soon as the two pack go on preorder. I don't have a Clone Wars Obi-Wan, but I do have the 212th clone trooper already. This repack Obi-Wan still looks much better than the Tartakovsky looking figure.

I agree it is very frustrating when Hasbro doesn't use the best buck available to them and continue to pack named characters with an obvious army builder.. at least make it a 3 pack with a phase 1 and 2 clones. So, a week ago, the Black Series gets a lightsaber as the Gift of the Galaxy reveal. The fact it counts as "Black Series" is such BS. Since they are life-sized, it shouldn't count as Black Series nor TVC. So no new release last week and this week we get 2 repacks packed together in a Clones of the Republic 2 pack. This one is even worse because we can see all too clearly what could have been.

Most likely the tooling for the 2023 body sculpt was being used (Gree) during the same time period as this 212th run. It is common sense to use it from our point of view but its more of atooling scheduling run for Hasbro/factory. Marvel Legends has a lot of these type of scenarios with body buck choices as the tools are reserved and lots of products running at same time.

They have done multipacks utilizing the 2023 sculpt though...the Target 2-pack. They released so many 2023 clones within a very similar time period before. Regardless, old tooling is old tooling. Don't tease us with the 2023 if they're gonna go back and use the 2020. Also, they're repaints. Why not make a bunch of 2023 and just paint them up differently? -Justin

The Obi-Wan looks like the animated version. This looks like a form of toon shading which is why it has that flat look and lacks the details on the face. Its either that or its just a not final figure being used for the picture. The guy in the video where they promote this claims they revisited the photo-real to make it the best it can be. If it’s not supposed to be more toon then there’s definitely something off. The clone missing the line supports it being more toon though.

Plus Black Series almost always put their designs through the "if this existed in live action" filter when making these figures. That's why it's still an Ewan McGregor likeness. -Justin

That clone wars obi wan is still a banger of a figure. In the defense of hasbro at least they’re rereleasing the best obi wan in the line unlike the walgreens exclusive. Random question, did one of you end up picking up one of the Indy’s from the adventure series. I know it’s not Star Wars but it is lucasfilm related so I’m just curious what you guys thought of either of the Indy’s in the line or any of the other figures that came out of it?

On top of that, I started collecting Black Series with the plain phase 2 on the 2023 sculpt. I refuse to collect clones using anything older. So unfortunately, this release is a HARD pass for me.
