Constant war between the Autobots and the Decepticons on Cybertron has caused great hardship. Both need supplies, and select numbers from each side and intend to get them. The Autobots weren't looking for a fight with the Decepticons, but they get one out in space anyway. When the Decepticons board the Autobots' ship it takes a beating and crashes onto Primitive Earth and knocks everyone unconscious. Four million years later, in 1984, a volcano eruption causes a probe to give them all new forms which come from vehicles in the surrounding area. They are all awoken - leading to a renewed conflict and the inclusion of humans.

Things continue to progress; with the Decepticons on the move, and the Autobots gaining Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky as allies. Still, two humans may not make a difference. The long dormancy has merely delayed Megatron and the Decepticons' ambitions, and they prove increasingly proficient in making up for lost time. Repeated clashes lead to a bigger one in a Decepticon ruby mine and even bigger danger.

Following the latest action, both sides are basically back to where they started. The Autobots use Ravage and some holograms in an attempt to lure the Decepticons into a final defeat. Ravage escapes informing Megatron proves even sneakier seeing through Optimus' ruse and keeping them distracted from interfering in his own plans. Even worse, the Decepticons are done plundering Earth. With a ship ready and Cybertron in great danger, an all-out battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons looms.

The Decepticons, working with Shockwave on Cybertron, create the "space bridge" --device to transport energon cubes between the two planets. When Spike and Bumblebee stumble across the riverbed where the space bridge is being tested, they are captured by the Decepticons, who intend to use the boy to guide the energon shipment through the dangerous device. Bumblebee escapes, and ultimately leads the Autobots back to rescue Spike and destroy the shipment.

Kids these days have no idea how mind blowingly revolutionary this cartoon series was when it first aired. There was never anything like it. Even our boomer parents who had never seen anything like it before thought the concept was very original and creative. The idea of robots transforming into vehicles will never seize to be cool and some people today still wish for it to be a reality.

I was talking to a kid on Reddit the other day, who thought that the Xbox was where gaming started. He had no idea about the Master System, Snes, C64 or Spectrum 128K etc. Kids today have missed entire generations of content which we grew up with, and they have literally no idea about their existence. It's really quite tragic, how easily the past is forgotten. They act like Microsoft etc, are the be all and end all, without realising how modern companies are standing on the shoulders of those who came before them.

I love Transformers but now that I’m older it’s so hard to believe the autobots could ever stand a chance against the Decepticons. For example starscream turns into an F-22 Raptor that can reach speeds of Mach 2 and can shoot missiles where Optimus prime is a Peter Built that can drive about 70 mph max. Even Bee with his Camaro transformation is no match for an F-22 let alone Megatron and all he can turn into. Plus the decepticons can do things perfectly convenient for their needs like in this video where sound wave spits out magical boxes to put the oil in for them to ultimately smash down into their ships energy. The autobots just don’t have anything on the decepticons. But it’s still fun to watch and must be viewed from the eyes of a child even while 43 years old😂

Growing up, I had a lot of “heroes” I looked up to, but none were ever even close to Optimus Prime. The live action movies have the voice actor, but not the original writer so it sounds like Optimus but it’s not the same. He would NEVER harm a human or verbally say “I’m going to kill you!” Like he did in Age of Extinction. The newer movies have the voice and look but the personality is still off.

1st few episodes show the autobots able to fly, after the 3 episodes, they become flightless and need to depend on Skyfire and subsequently the 2nd season autobot planes for aerial transportation

My explanation is Autobots achieved flight as well, but because they don’t have actual airplane modes it expends an egregious amount of energy. Deceptions don’t care because they just pirate & plunder energy sources. Sometimes big companies never learn. You don't always have to keep pumping out new stuff to draw fans and make big profits. G1 Transformers was part of the Golden Age 80's. From '84 till now, every time there is a G1 TF release of a toy, it sells out pretty quickly! These mass production of Earth Spark and other newer TF lines just mostly sit on the shelves. Even the TF's One toys will not sell good enough. The newer toy versions of the original G1 toys that are far more alike the Cartoon and not Hasbro buying off Diaclone's and rebranding them with new colors. Hasbro/TT should focus more on the original G1, and while you are at it fix the US distribution issues(most ppl don't pay attention that Transformers are Imported Toys and the US Government has too much red tape to cut through regarding dumbfounded regulations on Imported Toys).

The G1 cartoon is still the best 80's show of all time and it's still fun to watch such as the three-part pilot episode "More Than Meets The Eye" and the follow-up regular episode "Transport To Oblivion" where the Autobots along with newfound human friends Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky never left Earth for Cybertron (on the eve of their departure!) just in case the Decepticons reappeared months later.

@@emerje0 They are abridged in that sense, I just got to the part at the end of the first episode where Prime is attempting to rescue Sparkplug and Spike at the burning off-shore oil rig. Rather than cutting to the credits or to the "On the next episode. . ." clips the More Than Meets The Eyes episodes had, it plays the commercial bumpers and transitions right into the Part II of More Than Meets The Eye, without the intro playing.

A Blu-Ray would be great why hasn't one been released? You have the upscaled on youtube in HD but only the DVD in 480P is available physically, that makes no sense. Even the Japanese release was just SD on Blu-Ray. Maybe this show needs extensive remastering?

I kinda feel like with the 86 movie, when they killed off Optimus. I felt like it was their way to traumatize children to help them prepare for the hellish world of adulthood. By saying that your childhood heroes aren't immortal, it's time to grow up and move on welcome to adulthood. Get ready for your beloved ones to perish someday and to get ready for the hell that is adulthood.
