Calculate ECTS from CREDIT HOURS | Study in Germany

This is to calculate the ECTS of a specific subject. For example if you have studied 3 credit hours of a subject named 'English' and your total Credit hours in a degree are 130. You have to divide 240 by 130 i.e 240/130=1.8 Now you can multiply 3 credit hours by 1.8 3*1.8=5.4 that means you have studied 5.4 ECTS of your subject 'English' Similarly, if you have studied 120 credit hours in your degree then your ECTS for English subject will be 240/120=2 2(Factor) *3(Credit Hours) =6 ECTS Your total degree's Credit hours will always be equal to 240 ECTS if you have studied 4 years of Bachelors.

SUMMARIZED AND CLEANSED: If you completed a 4 year degree your total ECTS = 240, if it was 3 years its going to be 180. I agree with him on calculating the factor because that comes in handy when you need to justify specific course areas but most universities just require total ECTS completed. but the math that you did, its like 1/2(credit hour) = 0.5 and 0.5*2 = 1 always. Bro I encountered the same issue today, I received a rejection on the basis of not meeting the required ECTS, but I thought the university has done the calculation wrong because i did my working (as told in this video, considering 240 ects), upon appealing I got a response that "Your degree is considered equivalent to a 3-Year, 180 ECTS- German bachelor degree" However I've completed a 4 year degree program from a state recognised university (University of Karachi). I'm totally confused as I've applied in multiple universities which costed me 100k (Uni assist and VPD and what not) but now I'm worried that it can all go in vain because my calculation was wrong and I'll get rejected in many of those universities who require specific number of ECTS in different courses. Please help if you figured out the solution or if only some universities consider a 4 year degree equivalent to a 3 year German degree.

According to your calculations this will always remain 240 ECTS. Doesn't matter what the factor is. According to your calculations: Factor = 240 / Total Credit Hours ECTS = Factor * Total Credit Hours What is this???

Hahaha ... he actually first divides 240 by credit hours and then multiplies it by credit hours so nothing happens and it is always 240 ECTS which is strange. like we are finding our ECTS and we are even considering our ECTS = 240 which is to be determined. 🤣

I want to ask a condition that if we are haivng two types of C.H in our transcript, one is for Theory and the other for Viva, so what will be the solution? at the time of calculating the CH for one subject would be the addition of CH of theory + CH of Viva??? right?? and then the addition of total CHs of all subjects for the factor and divide by the 240???

University Response: We would ask if you could clarify the number of credits. If we are not wrong, we could find the ones related to BS (133) and MS (35). Nevertheless, it won’t achieve the minimum required (300 ECTS, of which at least 60 ECTS must correspond to master level). Are these credits linked to ECTS? Where could we check this information? Hi brother if we follow this method then what ever number you keep for dividing will come as your ECTS. you said "factor = 240/CH" now you are saying "ECTS = factor*CH" which by default will be same as 240 or whatever you keep....

Summing up the video: In Europe, study of one year is equivalent to 60 ECTS, So for a 4 years Bachelors degree, the total number of ECTS would be = 60x4 = 240 ECTS. My Bachelors degree at [University Name] has total of 137 credit hours. I have completed till of now, 127 credit hours. Factor for my degree: 240/Total credit hours of my degree = 240/137 = 1.75 How to find ECTS for a particular catagory? ECTS for a particular catagory = Credit hours x Factor = ECTS

I did 2 years bachelors and 2 years master. As per transcript my master credit hours is 69 but my bachelors transcript shows only 8 credit as my bachelor was distance learning but my bachelors tenure was 2 years. Now i am confused to calculate the ECTS if i accumulate both degress credit hours which will equal to 77. Then what is eligibility of me for admission into Master program in Germany. They have just calculated my master's grades to German but BA's result was not added with overall grading. that's why my Pakistani gradings to German was very low and it created a great trouble for uni -assist as well as to all universities i have applied. e.g TUM, Passua.
