Sunday's final did not have the same stakes on the line. Yazdani was wrestling for a Ranking Series gold against the opponent from the '17 World final which he won. He did not have millions of eyes on him watching and hoping to win against an opponent he has never.
The 27-year-old still put on a show. Like when Makoev got a full shot on a single leg and Yazdani defended it with a stepback and lifted Makoev for exposure for two points. Or when he used his strength to score a double-leg takedown.
"It's been about eight months since I had not taken part in competitions," Yazdani said. "I decided to wrestle at this competition to re-evaluate my weaknesses and keep my body and mind on edge so that I can be fully prepared for the international competitions ahead."
He first made it past Fatih Erdin (TUR) 11-0 in the quarterfinals and was then tested by Asian champion Azamat Dauletbekov (KAZ) in the semifinals. The Kazakhstan wrestler was the only one who could wrestle Yazdani for more than four minutes but he ultimately lost 12-1.
The final against Makoev only lasted 4:33 but Yazdani put it on record that he is ready for another season and defend his world title in Belgrade, Serbia.
"The level of this competition was good," he said. "There some major Asian and a European wrestlers present who were quite good. My main purpose here was to be on the mat and be able to keep my body prepared and these matches helped me with that purpose quite well."
In little more than three months' time, Yazdani will be in Belgrade, Serbia defending his world title at 86kg. While he did not reveal his future competitions, Yazdani did not rule out being part of a couple before Belgrade.
"If my coach sees fit yes, I would like to compete," he said. "However, after so many months of being away from the mat officially, I got the results I was hoping for and now at this point, I will be willing to do so as long as the coach sees competing in a match fitting."

Hassan is looking great, attacking throughout the first period all the way until the end of the third minute. His fitness level is still high, and there were no signs of tiredness. He will have to be ready for a tough Taylor in their next (fifth) meeting.

Taylor will never be able to beat Hassan anymore. Iran coaches have completely analyzed Taylor and equipped Hassan with what it takes to beat him. Taylor would need a great evolution to be able to beat him, for which he would need another life time of wrestling .

@@raminpcccq I completely disagree with your statement, and I imagine Hassan would disagree as well. Let's keep in mind that their last three meetings were very close and could have gone either way. To say that Taylor would need another life time of wrestling to beat Hassan is ridiculous. Hassan has only beaten him once. I agree that Hassan seems to have an advantage in the coming world championships. He's younger, he won their last meeting, and as you say, he and his coaches have developed a good strategy to win. Don't underestimate Taylor and his coaches; Cael Sanderson and company are some of the most effective planners in all of wrestling. Let's just say that both Hassan Yazdani and David Taylor are among the best pound for pound wrestlers in the world today, and we should be thankful to have another opportunity to watch them wrestle again. Steel sharpens steel, and I'm sure that Yazdani and Taylor both thank God (Allah) for providing them with such fierce competition.

I'm sure that Hassan is working very hard because he knows that Taylor is a great competitor, and Hassan must be at the top of his fitness level and skills to beat him. This rivalry is the best in wrestling today; it should not be compared with Sadulaev and Snyder. Snyder beat Sadulaev only once, soon after Sadulaev moved up from 86/92kg. He was not yet a full-sized 97kg. In addition, Snyder only beat him once, and has lost to other 97kg wrestlers in the past few years. Hassan and Taylor are on a separate level from other 86kg wrestlers. They destroy the competition on their way to the finals, where they meet in classic matches. They both have excellent hand-fighting skills. Hassan is stronger, but Taylor has had an edge in endurance in the past, besides the last meeting at worlds last year.

I assume you will have no answer as well. Looking at their four matches, Hassan has always done better than the last match and closed the gap, until he finally beat Tylor convincingly in the last. Taylor on the other hand has performed less and less effective each time they met. So tell me what makes you think this pattern will suddenly change? What kind of miracle are you expecting? Taylor was in his prime at the Olympics and only a few months later loses to Hassan convincingly. What makes you think he is going to bounce back up suddenly?
