The real travesty was Beatrice Chebet not even making the Final 2 given that she won World XC Gold at the start of the yr, then destroyed the 10K WR by 7s @Pre Classic, then won 5/10K OLY Golds (only T&F Athlete in Paris to win double individual Golds), and then ended the yr winning the DL 5K Final!

Its kind of the reason why I am not really a fan of Sydney. She is in her prime, and you can count on one hand how many races she competes in per season. Crazy. She don't even compete on the diamond league.

Objectively neither sydney nor julien should have won as their seasons were IMO surpassed by Kipyegon and Chebet ..but if we look strictly at the two finalists I'd say Sydney had the better season despite not racing her main event that often . Julian's 10.72 honestly isn't a showstopper performance compared to Sydney's 50.37 over 400m hurdles

Honestly I dont think Tobogo deserves this World athletics championships of the year accord. I think Noah Lyles shouldve won this 1. He has done more interms of winning more races along with the big 100m men gold medal at the Olympics game. While Tobogo alone 1 major race.

Awards are about politics, not merit. I like Sydney as much as any fan, but Juju and Kipyegon performed better than her this year. In fact, in 400m overall, Femke was the more active athlete in 2024.
