Mr. Hassan Nissar Sir A very great introspection on Hagia Sofia, an ancient church almost 1500 years old, a mecca for Greek Orthodox Church, was forcibly converted into Mosque by Ottoman Turks, for almost 500 years. Great Mustafa Kamaal Attaturk converted it into a Museum, a symbol of modern day secular Turkey. It greatly helped it in it's modernisation in terms of Turkish society, security. Now peoples around the world says that Muslims and Turks forced their own religion on others believers and forcefully destroyed their scared places of worship. In long term it greatly harm Turkey, create wedge between Muslim world. Sir, yourself has also foresee this. Let the wisdom prevail. Turkey and Turkish people must be proud of Haggle Sofia Church as they are proud of Ottoman Empire.

@Ven Param it was a church 500 years ago... It was forcefully converted into a museum when ottoman empire was defeated in WW2.... But note that it was converted from museum to a mosque... Although I don't support the conversion...

The hagia Sophia's importance sir is not as a religious institution but as a material symbol of history. The reason I wouldn't mind it being converted back into a mosque is that I disagree with abrupt cessations, or attempts at abrupt cesations of history. Kamal Atartuk for all his genius blamed his culture for defeat and attacked its outward symbols , the headscarf, hagia etc. Mr. Erdogan is the result of that attack . Dont you think Mr Atartuk would have done his culture a much greater service by outwardly leaving cultural symbols intact and changing the culture from within? He could have completely changed primary and higher education, removed the religious shackles from education and thus helped mould his culture and his history. Banning or prohibiting a part of a culture is like trying to dam a river with a stick, it just flows around.
