Great video Luke! This is something I really struggled with some years ago. I (wrongly) assumed “So what” would be an easy song to practice my recently acquired walking bass basics... I got so frustrated at how flat and lifeless (or worse yet, senseless) my lines would sound. After some struggle and listening to lots of recordings, I somehow ended up playing the same “game” myself and made some sense out of it. Having this video back then would have saved me so much time and frustration!

That Spector looks and sounds amazing. I have to play both songs in less than 4 hours. Thank u for this.

Greatest bass video of the year. Answered a question so deep I had never verbalized. Now I know that freedom from root slavery is The Way. ;)

Very helpful basic ideas to motivate experimentation. I like the way you use simple music theory as a jumping off point for musical intuition to achieve a good line. Just what a beginner like me needs. Thanks for lending a ton of clarity to constructing walking bass lines!

If you want to be *super* technical, you can think of it as being a D-6 chord, but thinking in terms of D-7 or D-9 or D-11 works just as well.
