There is a near universal agreement between research and statistics organisations that the Baby Boomer generation lasted from 1946 to 1964. All the other generations are basically just marketing.

I recall in school (as an Australian) that one of my teachers mentioned Neighbours as a cultural export to the UK, and that their understanding of it was that UK audiences were enthralled in part by being able to see people of similar socioeconomic status to them living in houses with yards, gardens, etc. Since all the 'land' in the UK was largely occupied by farmers and the rich, and your average person lived in flats and townhouses. Not sure how true any of that is, that's just how they explained the popularity :P

Neighbors and Home & Away were huge in Norway as well. I don't know what Australia was doing at that time, but I feel like they sold those two shows globally in a way that they have never been able to do again with any other show. Skippy, then Neighbors and Home and Away and The Crocodile Hunter, and then we've had basically nothing Australian on the TV ever since.
