Also, for anyone wondering: "generations" are not a scientific thing (sociologists and economists sometimes use the term "age cohort" which is vaguely similar), but the aforementioned generational categories were made up by a couple of marketing researchers.

@@nakenmil "Baby Boomer" isn't just a marketing thing. It correlates to the baby boom of the mid-20th century. There is a near universal agreement between research and statistics organisations that the Baby Boomer generation lasted from 1946 to 1964. All the other generations are basically just marketing.

I recall in school (as an Australian) that one of my teachers mentioned Neighbours as a cultural export to the UK, and that their understanding of it was that UK audiences were enthralled in part by being able to see people of similar socioeconomic status to them living in houses with yards, gardens, etc. Since all the 'land' in the UK was largely occupied by farmers and the rich, and your average person lived in flats and townhouses. Not sure how true any of that is, that's just how they explained the popularity :P

4:44 fun little Harrison ford fact here. he is close personal friends with Roman Polanski and personally accepted an oscar for him, hand delivering it to him in Poland. Suggesting he doesn’t really mind being associated with giant nonces or about other peoples opinions on his legacy as he’s perfectly willing to taint it like that.

Neighbors and Home & Away were huge in Norway as well. I don't know what Australia was doing at that time, but I feel like they sold those two shows globally in a way that they have never been able to do again with any other show. Skippy, then Neighbors and Home and Away and The Crocodile Hunter, and then we've had basically nothing Australian on the TV ever since. Makes it seem like the Australian entertainment industry peaked with Neighbors...

@@theformalmooshroom9147 99% of the time when smith gets into a rant it's marxist leninst theory. He's just still too mired by capitalisms trappings to take the final leap. You hats are so close to figuring out the problem with a lot of modern media. Go back to your talk about Harrison Ford's relation to modern fandoms and then remember that these fandoms (mostly horrible nerds) will spend all of their money if they feel like Hollywood or anyone is appealing to them in even the slightest and deadest way. Now that the big money guys at Hollywood know that, they are exploiting it for all its worth. Because nerds are easy to exploit. Not that I can speak....
