Britain has very few native forests nowadays - most forests are human plotted and contain non-native plants
@Mylity666 жыл бұрын
I think there are some little tiny specks of pristine forest that exists only because they have been crown hunting grounds for centuries. All major predators but one have gone extinct in the british isles, if i remember correctly they hunted bears, wolves and lynx into extinction in the middle ages. You usually appreciate what you don't have anymore a lot more when other people still have it and you fucked yours a long time ago.

There is this very interesting disconnect in reality where poaching is bad but Big Game Hunters often donate the most to animal conservation efforts for a chance to hunt the members of the endangered species. Generally it’s done by auction, for a permit to hunt a particular animal that has been killing others of its species. These auctions are used to raise money for the preserves, and generally raise up to $500,000 per permit.
Man I can't wait for these boiks to make a Map Maaakeeer album with hit songs like DNF.

Money from the hunting (outside of poaching) goes back into the conservation of the animals, not the reserve as Ross kept saying. Hunters pay more money into conservation then any other organization do. If you made all hunting illegal you would lead to the extinction of the species because they would no longer have a use. Under controlled hunter and conservation the proper levels or sustainable levels of the animal is kept and X amount are allowed to be shot, usually older males who have done their time procreating but wont back down to allow younger males in. Happens alot with deer and lions. People got all bent out of shape over Cecil the lion, when the hunt was legal, but he had wandered into a reserve and got shot.

Obsessive hunting is bad, but for instance in the Midwestern US if you were to let certain animals rapidly multiple without any population check in place through legal trapping or hunting it would lead to harming the ecosystem in more ways than one in the current state of things. You can't just throw away the current model of ecosystems (hunting being a part of that) because you feel it's immoral after creating/modifying the environment from its previous state. I mean you can, but you also can't bitch when things start to collapse, other species start to be eliminated, etc when you do that. When it comes to the topic of exotic hunting for game then you're in a whole other world of arguments and science. You can't really lump in "we could all be vegan" with "we shouldn't randomly shoot rhinos and lions." There are quite a lot of species that have been created and molded over the years to literally be a source of nutrients, be it milk, protein, etc. The argument is better spent talking about bad conditions instead of elimination. I love you guys but you seriously are clueless on damn near every topic you talk about unless it's pop-culture, and even then it's hit or miss at times.
@twysted_catalyst90966 жыл бұрын
Strangely Ironic Couldn't have been said any better. *side note* As a hunter, I don't understand why people do exotic hunts like that (lions, elephants, etc). I can understand stuff like Water Buffalo, Kudo, and gazelle because those are all animals that people eat. And I was always taught " Don't shoot it unless you'll eat it." So when people do the exotic hunts like lions, I just see it as pointless. I don't know if there is benefit to it or not, but if there is, I'm glad to hear about it.

the vast majority of hunters do use all of the animal. in America there are laws ensuring that all usable parts of the animal are used, and if you could use the parts why wouldn't you? the reason people take dears antlers, for example, as trophies is because they cant be used for anything else, so why not? also hunting for food is less cruel than farming animals as the animals that are hunted live a full life in the wild before being killed.
@Mylity666 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to contradict you specially when i agree with what you say but I've seen some pretty damn beautiful knives with antler handles, it doesn't only looks great but its a far better material for handles than wood or metal. I also agree with hunting for sport, so long its done responsibly in a designated area, hunting fast proliferating animals like boar, deer, rabbits (etc) and using primitive gear. That means no scopes, no IR cameras, and maybe no firearms. Although hunting with something like a mosin nagant with not attachments is something a find quite acceptable, where is the thrill of the hunt if you can use your GoGo-Gatdget KillDeer and bam, dead deer?

Been vegetarian for a year and a half now, for about half of that time I was vegan. Didn't and still don't miss meat or milk or eggs, but there is currently no realistic or tasty enough vegan alternative for cheese. It is simply too hard and too limiting to be vegan for an extended amount of time for a lot of people. I'd say it's quite easy to make delicious and imaginative vegan food at home, but if you go out, if you want takeaway food, you are severely limited to often the most boring foods on the menu. It is improving though and I'd be willing to try again if it's more catered for.

These guys seem a bit confused as to the difference between poaching and trophy hunting: Poaching: - Is illegal, - Significantly contributes to the decline of animal populations, - Wastes almost all the remains of the animal poached, - Involves mass killing of animals Trophy hunting: - Not particularly ethical, but it is entirely legal - The money brought in by trophy hunters helps fund conservation efforts in the local area - The animal's remains can still be used, as it is not being left to rot - Is on a very small scale... Beyond a doubt saves more animals than are killed While neither of these things is pleasant, I think anyone would have to agree with me that trophy hunting is the better of the two evils.
@Arniox6 жыл бұрын
I'd rather eat meat from animals that where killed. You get the game taste. I wouldn't kill for a trophy unless there where actually loads and loads of that species, but for food, I want to be able to have that game taste. If they can perfectly replicate the game taste, and different varieties of meat and all that stuff, then I might be interested.

You guys seem to be putting poaching and trophy hunting in the same box. Poaching is terrible, poachers have no regard for animal populations, they don't use the whole animal, and they don't benefit the people living in the area (I'm pretty sure they raise the crime rate but not actually sure). Properly regulated and enforced trophy hunting preserves animals, usually I think the meat is provided to the people nearby, it adds to the tourism industry not to mention that a lot of the cost goes to the animal reserves to further preserve the animals. Also as many people have said if all hunting stopped there would be a rise in population that would lead to a shortage of resources which could lead to the destruction of an ecosystem.
@FineOtter6 жыл бұрын
I did some quick googling to make sure that I wasn't being fooled by what I've heard in the past that might not be necessarily true. And from what I've seen it seems like the people that like trophy hunting can prove that it's good for the environment and the people, whereas the people that don't like it can prove that it's killing all the animals. I'm still inclined to believe that trophy hunting is good though, mostly because most of the arguments against it start with "why would you want to kill a living thing?" They still usually back it up, but that beginning irks me. I have always found the killing of animals in general to be a stupid thing to be against. There are legitimate reasons to be against killing animals but "oh they are so cuuuuuuute" isn't one of them.
@jamesmccann5316 жыл бұрын
Nate Barbe however, a species will regulate itself by some of the population starving, and then the resources are in abundance again, look at predator/prey cycles. However, if there is a large influx of animals, like resources are destroyed due to another reason, and animals move, then the resource can be completely wiped out. The population needs to be monitored to make sure that my last point doesn't happen.

I'd have to respectfully disagree on the vegan thing; simply because there is a very good reason to not be vegan in that it's not really accessible if you're any poorer than middle class, and that constitutes most of the world. Supplements and lentils aren't exactly cheap and avocados are ludicrously expensive now that they've become popular; you'd see very similar price inflation if everyone suddenly went vegan and that'd leave a lot of poor folks starvin'. Growin' meat though, that's not a bad idea even if it runs counter to all the organic farming I've been raised on.

A good reason for everyone to not be vegan is the sheer amount of farmland required displaces millions of animals from their habitats, and over the course of 800-2000 years destroys the soil quality, leaving the land unfarmable. Cue mass starvation.

Aside from taste the only other reason that comes to mind is economic. The price relative to caloric density can be pretty steep, especially for more nutritious plants.
