I played with the idea of solipsism for a while. It was narcissistic of me, but I figured if everyone I encountered was a creation of my own imagination I wouldn't have a reason to hate/love/mistreat/take care of them. I could just be indifferent and continue on until that inevitable death. Whenever I go to an amusement park, these thoughts arise in my head.

***** I believe in a similar thing - I don't know if it has a name as I haven't formally studied philosophy. Basically, there are a number of people within a simulation (my guess is a few hundred), and everyone else is part of the simulation. That's why there are people who are utterly two-dimensional, and many which make no kind of sense whatsoever. Of course, anything far enough away can then be simplified down (from my perspective, it would make no difference if the US didn't actually exist and was just being simulated on a very broad level). There are probably holes in it, but meh. It works for me. I think that's the most important thing about individual philosophy, in the end. What matters is not whether or not it's true, but how it helps you get through day to day life (if it does).

I haven't heard of your particular philosophy before, although I would be surprised if it wasn't already described somewhere with its own name. Minidiscs, gentlemen, are still used in theater business, by travelling groups. They can carry lots of sounds at high quality, are very durable, and the information is literally 'baked' into the disc so it can't be erased easily, if at all. Cheap players can read them, with big, easy-to-use buttons that are easily hooked up to a mixing desk, in stereo. You're welcome.

The thing is, is that with there being so many stars, and hydrocarbons being so incredibly common, the variables for life absolutely had to happen somewhere. Additionally, life formed around these variables, not vice versa. There could even be forms of life to which this planet would be exceedingly inhospitable, who are looking up right now at the stars, thinking that there is such a small chance that the variables for their existence would be exactly perfect for them to live that there must be some higher power. Some silicon, cyanide, or methane based lifeform on a planet that's 1000 Kelvin who thinks "Oh, it's a bit toasty" when the temperature changes to 1030 Kelvin. That's the thing about our search for life. We immediately dismiss planets which we deem inhospitable to ourselves.

So here's my silly thoughts. If the digits following pi are infinite and random, then you can find any sequence of numbers somewhere in there. Like even though there is an incredibly small chance of finding 1234567890987654321 for example, you could, because the infinite length of digits. That means that you could find a series of zeroes with an infinite length, right? So any number that infinitely regresses like pi, will eventually end, even though it can't.

You got the Fermi paradox completely wrong. The Fermi paradox is that we evolved to this point in a mere few million years after the formation of our star and, assuming we don't get wiped out before then, can expect to spread across the galaxy in 50 million years or less. But, there are many comparable stars that formed billions of years before ours, so where are the galaxy spanning civilizations? The fact that we don't see evidence of these civilizations could have many explanations, and there is a case to be made that the most likely explanation is they don't exist. In which case we need to ask why. And that leads into the great gates speculation.

This is interesting episode, reminds me that last year Shonen Jump magazine published a manga chapter called *RKD-EK9* The premise was a scientist proved heaven's existence and the world discovering that the conditions to get in were so ludicrous that no one in the last fifty year has made it there.
