Sips is right, the problem with the Forest is that it is a game with a split focus. It doesnt know if it wants to be a survival base builder or a co op action adventure game. Hopefully the sequel is a bit tighter, as the atmosphere and setting was great.

The cannibals have patrol routes that they travel regularly. Building near those or their villages will make them attack you more often. If you build a fire they will come and check it out at least once and they will probably just leave if they don't see you around. Building big bases attracts regular attacks, but they also follow you around. Basically staying in an area and making a lot of noise will draw them to you.

The issue is they are building right next to a cave, which is where the enemies spawn to go on their patrol routes, so no matter how many effigies or how little they deforest enemies will spawn right next to them. The beach base was better in that regard, they just never put any effigies up or bothered to really do anything with it cause they made the walls too small to fit anything.

Hold right click to block ffs lol. Don't stay on the move and build walls of deadfall traps. DESTROY THE STUMPS and use ziplines to deliver logs to your camp without having to carry them the whole way.
