I was born in Ukrainian but grew up in america, but still watched all of the old soviet cartoons. One thing I like about soviet cartoons as opposed to american, is that each cartoon took on a more philosophical approach while still being funny, they were made to teach kids a lesson, how to be honest, how to live. I think you need to be slavic to really understand the The humor, it had its own unique charm, it's hidden. American cartoons are very slapstick(if that's the proper term) its just a bunch of characters running around doing stupid things, like time and jerry, the entire time they just run around and hit each other. Some cartoons are even crude is a way. Some character falls on their ass and that's considered funny. I'm not not saying american cartoons are bad, they are also extremely funny and I love disney and dreamworks, it's just that I have a soft spot for soviet cartoons because of the messages all of them provided. Unfortunately, modern russian cartoons are now absolutely awful, they are trying to hard to "americanize" or appeal towards the more western humor which makes the humor band and boring. American humor doesn't work in russian cartoons, it doesn't fit I really hope I'm making sense with what I'm saying

I love Russian and Eastern European animation, there's a charm to it that isn't often found in western animation. I used to have a big book of fairy tales with the same style of watercolors, and it's really stuck with me for the last 30 years (I wish I could find it again).

Disney's Pooh primary directive is being CUUUUUUUUUTE (a long tradition in American cinema). Russian Pooh doesn't have "be cute" on the top of his priorities list cause there are some more important things first and it's a big big relief and respect for the viewer.

Thanx KZbin for recommending me this video after a year since it was released. Yep, KZbin's algorithms are weird. But anyway, the good video I guess. Personally, for me, it was interesting to watch a reaction of a foreigner on one of my childhood soviet cartoon. We got many of them, you can check them out too. Plus, a lot of good films. Sadly, after the 90s and the end of the USSR, there's not much of good films or cartoons was made because of a lot of problems.

i don't think Owl's that much of a bad person, [spoilers ahead] i mean, we could assume that she pretended not to recognize the tail - but pretty much all the characters in that cartoon were shown not to be recognizing it. So... we can't just say that "only when it breaks does she have the nerve to give it back". Instead, she decided to gift him what she thought was a string. i mean, i agree that her phrase "Ha-ha, and if he lost it on any other day, nobody would've noticed, but today..." sounded kinda cold. But come on, she decided to gift him something after all. And not just something - i'm sure she liked her "string" before gifting it to him.

Well... Owl IS a "stereotypical aunt" who tries to behave superior due to inferiority complex. It is stereotypical but also very often seen around. As for her phrase - she's not really harsh, but more like bad with admitting her own faults. Again - very "humane" thing, often seen around. So, I've never considered Owl a bad person but as an awkward person instead. (Later, as an adult - as an infantile one as well). And it make sense. These cartoons were, among other things, teaching kids about what they look like when they misbehave.

@@HatsOffMedias HatsOffMedia that's no surprise as almost all of the Soviet and Russian cartoons are officially available at KZbin for free (e.g. Soyuzmultfilm channel). Same is true for Soviet movies (Mosfilm, Lenfilm, etc.), but not for modern Russian films - you can still find some of them uploaded by random users and channels, they're not so many, but that's actually good (if you can't find it here it's either so crappy no one bothered to upload or it was stroke down because of pure commercial nature of the product, which in case of modern Russian movie industry means it's almost certainly crappy).

@@NicholasRSims I think they tried to make the story more relatable for Russian kids and used only those characters who could (kind of) really live in a nearby forest. A tiger, and especially a kangaroo were way too exotic for this.

I think they followed the book closer than Disney did (apart from not having Christoffer). The first stories in the book set up the status quo, that the new arrivals then arrive into, but they never got to these later stories.

technically it is (and was) Russian. When I watched them as a kid I knew them as Russian cartoons because they were made in Russia as opposed to the other CCCP countries. In Lithuania we did not see ourselves as the same country.

@@vdagr8795 no one is calling USSR Russia. There was USSR and there was Russia. There were 15 countries in the USSR if my memory is correct. The cartoon is Russian because it as made in Russia. Saying it was made in USSR is not wrong too. But saying it is Russian is correct. We did not speak USSRian in the USSR, each country spoke their own language. This cartoon is in Russian hence a Russian cartoon.
